Hey, I'm Jen... so glad to be here!

Postby Jen » June 21st, 2006, 5:04 pm

Hello to everyone. I've been browsing for a few days and just joined. I do plan to start a journal thread, but I wanted to introduce myself to the group first.

My name is Jen, I am 35 years old, happily married, with no kids. I'm 5'8" and as of Sunday I weighed 262. My goal is 150, so I have 112 pounds to lose. I have never been a slave to the scale so I plan on weighing myself once a week to monitor my progress. I ordered my first 4 week supply of Medifast on Sunday and according to UPS, it should arrive sometime tomorrow. I am very excited to get started! Sunday I started adjusting my diet in preparation, trying to simulate as closely as possible to the MF plan in terms of calories, protein and carbs.

I was a normal weight kid, but poor eating habits, terrible portion control, and a strong dislike of exercise helped gradually pack on the pounds. I was about 160 all through high school and then graduated college at around 190. It was all uphill from there. I've never fallen for "fad" diets and very low-carb/high saturated fat diet plans strike me as foolish. (MF looks like a workable plan to me).

I have never tried MF or any other formal diet plan. About 4 years ago I lost about 60 pounds (over a year) by eating healthier and working out. I joined a gym and I found that really helped. That gave me a lot of self-confidence and is one of the reasons I know I will be successful - I felt great and looked great. Unfortunately, I never really got ahold of my diet, carbs are a great love of mine! Over the last few years I have gained back almost all of that weight. I also stopped going to the gym although I do walk 2 miles a day 4-5 days a week (weather permitting).

I'm lucky to have a very supportive husband. He is a healthy weight and loves to walk, hike, ride bikes, go to the gym, so he's up for anything I want to do. He just wants me to be happy and healthy.

My reasons for wanting to lose weight are common. Mainly, I want to be healthier. I am concerned about Type 2 diabetes and all the other problems that come with being so overweight. I want to feel better too. I get headaches and my knees hurt sometimes. When I lost that 60 pounds before, I really noticed how much better I felt all the time, so that is a real motivator. I live in Phoenix so feeling comfortable in a bathing suit will also be a great plus!

One change that I really think will make a difference is the support of this forum. I've never done anything like this before (I am more of a loner/take-care-of-your-own-self kind of girl). But as supportive as my husband is, he just doesn't know what it feels like to be overweight so I plan on really working the journal to keep motivated and involved in this community.

I'm glad to be here!

Welcome Jenn you've definitely found the right place. The support you will get here will really help you stick to plan and before long you'll be melting away.

Welcome, Jen!!! I'm somewhat of a loner/I'll-do-it-myself kind of gal too. I had my reservations when I joined here at first, but I've found this group to be wonderfully supportive! A good place to vent and share. Glad to have you join us! :D

Hi there Jen, I am so happy to see another Zonie...Arizonie that is. Some time and hopefully soon, a few of us from Az get together for a Lean & Green dinner or lunch. I am hoping the next meeting will be in wonderful Payson...thats where I am....cause its so much cooler here than in Phx.
So please know that you also have that extra support just being in Phx. :)

Hi Jen!
Welcome

I live in Az too! Yeah, another 1!!!

Your goal is 150??? That seems really low. I am 5'9 and my goal is 170 ish. I know all body types are different but I can't even amagine being that low w/ only a 1" difference in height.

But......who knows. I may get to 170-175 and decide I need to be 150

I agree, and 150 lbs. is not set in stone, I just based that goal on a healthy weight range for my height. I plan to get back into normal strength training so I may end up being heavier but healthier!

Yay, another Arizona person! We haven't had an Arizona L&G in a while. We should have one the first week of July, to celebrate Dede's return!

Also, I am 5'8" myself and 150 seems a very reasonable goal. All the height and weight charts I've seen for my height list 164 as the absolute top of the "healthy" range.
35, 5'8"

YAY! UPS brought my first 4 week shipment of MF today! Since I have been working the 6 small meals, low-carb, high protein since Sunday in preparation for MF, I decided to start right in today. For my 1:00 meal, I tried the peanut butter bar because that sounded the best to me. I was happy at how good it tasted. I followed the quick start guide suggestion to cut it up and eat is slowly which worked great.

I feel really good.
