Hey everyone

Postby Philamae » March 23rd, 2005, 12:52 pm

Hi everyone, I found this forum through a blog :)

After reading intensly about Medifast, I decided to hold my breath and ordered a months supply.

I'm 22, Ive never really been thin, but Ive always looked ok because I can hide it all with clothes ;)
Im so excited, worried I wont be able to stick with it (huge investment for a college student!) and grateful to have found a community to take a part of through this journey

Im worried because diets always fail for me because being hungry gives me horrible migraines...Im hoping Ill be able to get used to it, or it wont be too bad. I read so many glowing first hand reviews (not just off medifast sites) that I just had to take a dive.

Anyone else had this problem? I havent even gotten my shipment yet and Im already worried, hehe...

Oh well, hi to everyone :D

Hi there!

After your body shifts into ketosis (usually about three days) you won't be hungry, so that shouldn't trigger a migraine. Some people here have reported that they experience fewer migraines while on Medifast.

Ah, to be 22 and in college and able to do this program! Find the money, somehow. It's worth it -- your whole life will be better for it. Good luck.

Scrabbler, we need a link to the registration page on aisle one!

Ok, registered

yeah I read about ketosis and such, Ive read most of the links from top to bottom, but I hadnt seen anything specific about hunger induced headaches before.

I weigh about 165 pounds, Im 5'5"
it doesn't look bad because I can hide it well with clothes, Im hispanic so a lot is in the *ahem* trunk. But Im sick of this whole clothes to look thin nonsense, I dont even want to be incredibly skinny (yuck) all i want is no more rolls!

Im so excited! I wish my package would just get here so maybe I have hopes at a bikini summer :D

24K is right-- hunger should go away after the first 3 days or so. Now, we can't lie to you-- the first 3 days can be very uncomfortable for some people! Some have headaches, some are ravenously hungry, some are lightheaded; others do just fine. But there are things you can do to prepare yourself-- make sure you drink lots of water, eat your medifoods every 3 hours or so, make sure you're getting enough sodium and potassium (by drinking 2 MF FastSoups or cups of bouillion per day), and take aspirin or other pain relievers to preempt any headaches.

After the first 3 days, it does get easier, and hopefully your migraines will stay away as the pounds melt from you...!

Anyway, welcome! Read as much as you can; this board has a lot of great info and it has certainly helped me through the good times and bad! Come here and read, lurk, post, whatever you like-- you'll learn a lot, help others, and distract yourself from any foody thoughts that threaten to derail your efforts. We'll get there togather!

I'm no expert on tweaking MF to follow vegetarian protocols, so I hope Nancy (our denmother, and much much more!) weighs in on this... But you'll need to get some protein in your "lean & green," so 2 salads won't cut it! ;) Other options might include eggs/egg substitute (if you can eat them), veggie burger patties (lower-carb versions), and tofu. You should probably discuss these things with your Health Advisor; do you have one? (If you ordered from the official Medifast site, you might not...) If you need one, Nancy is the hostess of this forum and is a HA; you can throw your lot in with her and send her an email to join her group of losers. ;)

Welcome, welcome! I've had problems with migraines, too. They were bad the first few days, but following everyone's suggestions is a good bet. I would add be very generous (but safe) with pain medication. If you have any migraine meds, take them early and you should be OK. I haven't had any problems with headaches AT ALL since.

Just think, the first couple of days is literally a period of detox. Detox is not pleasant for anyone, regardless of what you're detoxing from. However, the rewards are great and I am so excited for you!

Happy Shaking!!

Hello and welcome to you, Philamae ~

I have a number of clients that USED to have frequent headaches and migraines but thanks to Medifast, no more or rarely have them.

We will hope that you have the same glorious experience.

These Medifast products are Not Vegetarian Endorsed
Cream of Broccoli Soup
Cream of Chicken
Beef Fast Soup
Chicken Fast Soup
Chicken Noodle Soup
Homestyle Chili
Minestrone Soup
Chicken & Wild Rice Soup
The Essential 1 Meals – Beef Patty, Chicken Breast, Tuna Salad & Chicken Salad

re: Vegetarian

If you are a total vegetarian (vegan) and do not eat any animal products, including egg or milk products, alas, Medifast programs are not appropriate for you.
Vegans may use the Medifast Take Shape program – soy-based shakes that are higher in calories but since the Take Shape shakes DO have a very minute amount of sodium caseinate and whey, (milk products) strict vegans do not use the Take Shape shakes.

People who are vegetarian and choose to use the Medifast Take Shape shakes and program may use the very lean and lean meat substitutes listed below.

Vegetarian Exchanges for Take Shape Program (for weight loss of 15 pounds or less or for people who want nutritiously balanced healthy fast food)

Meat Exchanges to keep in mind...
One Meat Exchange = 1 oz. of meat.
(The average meat serving such as a small hamburger or pork chop is approximately 3 oz.)

Very Lean Meat Substitutes ¼ cup nonfat or low-fat cottage cheese
1 oz. fat-free cheese
2 egg whites
¼ cup plain egg substitutes

Lean Meat Substitutes

¼ cup 4.5% cottage cheese
2 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese
1 oz. cheese with <3 grams of fat per oz

Vegetable Exchanges

A vegetable exchange is equivalent to ½ cup cooked vegetable or 1 cup raw.

These vegetables are NOT permitted because they are carbolically challenged! Do NOT eat ‘em – too high in carbohydrates - legumes, peas,
lentils, potatoes, corn, squash, and lima beans. Back away…

I am not a dietician.
I am not a physician.

You need to check with your physician before beginning any weight loss program or exercise program that will affect your health.

I am not qualified to advise you regarding appropriate meat exchanges to meet your needs.

Two salads will not provide the calories and nutrients needed for your needs.
Nothing tastes as good as thin feels...

I got excited over that one, too! But then I thought, hmmm, if I had a choice between a 4-oz grilled chicken breast and a tiny piece of fat free (= yucky!) cheese, I'd have to go for the chicken! ;)
