Help! For the Definitive word on salad dressings!

Postby MARIE » July 22nd, 2006, 4:41 pm

HI all-

I am an avid label reader-- I have tried many fat free/lowcarb/low-fat/low sugar, etc. salad dressings in my day. I am now wondering what you all have found to be the TOP COMPLIANT salad dressings for medifast! :D

Thanks!

Marie :bananadance:

For me I like the Walden Farms Salad Dressing. They are calorie, fat, carb & sugar free. I like the caesar but they have many to choose from. My local pick n save has the whole line. If your store doesn't check out waldenfarms dot com.

I just went to the Walden Farms website--looks like really good stuff! My only question is...how can something have no calories? I get it with diet coke, etc., but these are more like foods (bacon-ranch dip, chocolate dip, ranch dressing!)

I'm sure it is fine, but it sounds too good to be true! Sounds like you could have as much dressing on a salad as you want, but that cannot be right, can it? Or it is true and how cool!

Any thoughts? :hmmm:

Hi Marie,

I honestly have no clue as to how the dressings could be calorie free, when imitation bacon bits are added and such. But, in miniscule amounts, obviously they are not counted.

As for serving size of the WF dressing, most people use the recommended amount on the bottle, which is usually two tablespoons. Using more, would bring the nutrient values up from zero and there, would probably be the anser to your questions about calories.

I compared the MF ranch packet that I still have to the South Beach ranch, and it is comparitively the same nutrient values for the most part. So, I also include the South Beach dressing in my choices.

I use Maple Grove Farms sugar-free dressings. Most are also low-fat or nonfat. The main one I use has 5 calories for two tablespoons, with 0 fat and 1 carb. To me, they taste a whole lot better than the Walden Farms. I've tried several of those and, to be honest, I'd rather eat paste.

Love that!! HAHAHA!!

I use Walden Farms on my salads and also when I'm cooking - it gives it a great flavor and believe it or not - even my hubby loves the stuff!!

WF here, too. The only one I can't deal with is Ceasar. It tastes very anchovy-y to me. I can't eat that or smell it.

I like the rest. Blue cheese isn't bad. Blue cheese and the tomato bacony ones are my 1st favorites, 2nd is Honey Dijon. I like their marinara sauce, too. I don't like the alfredo smell, so I can't eat it. I tried a bit on my finger and though it was still cold, I couldn't eat more, hot or cold.

I actually just re-stocked on blue cheese and marinara just today
Don't really care as long as everything's better than yesterday was...

Mostly I use any low fat and non-sugary dressing. I know that's not 100% compliant, but I don't consider it cheating either. I hate creamy ones like ranch and bleu cheese , and I use so little and any fat in it is usually olive or canola which helps with my dry skin/hair situation. One way I use very little, and in restaurants this is a MUST, is to have the dressing on the side. I skewer a piece of veggie and then dip the TINIEST corner into the dressing. It is amazing how little dressing is gone from the container when I'm done, it's probably not more than a teaspoon or two.And really that's all it takes to get the taste from it. Dressing flavor will really sort of expand in your mouth because of all the spices and vinegar and you just don't need that much. I am shocked when I see people with ranch, etc, just dripping off their veggies. It's gross to me.

Hub and I use a bit of EVOO and I sprinkle raspberrry vinegar on mine.
It helps to flavor but be careful of the amount of EVOO you use. In fact you can spray it on with some of those sprays that are on the market. Good luck!
