Dear Chef :chef: Shrink aka Mary ~

First of all, pardon moi, I do not intend to sound rude, but did you read and follow the directions on the soup box label and cook it long enough?

The soups contain freeze-dried veggies, soy and/or chicken and they require some time to reconstitute, especially the Homestyle Chili. If you do not allow the soups the allotted time to steep, the flavors are not developed and you will have to make an appointment to see a dentist for a root canal and a crown. The beans, noodles and chicken do not boing back to life immediately, Shrink. Patience, Girl, patience! IMHO, the Homestyle Chili is best if cooked in a little pan on top of a regular stove and not in the nuclear box.

ONCE the soup has come back to life, then you may doctor it up by adding the spices of your choice. I prefer the Chicken Noodle Soup with parsley, oregano, a cube of chicken bouillon or a packet of Medifast Delicate Chicken Fast Soup, a snort more water, fresh ground pepper and a packet of crunched up Medifast Multi-grain or the Medifast Vegetable flavored crackers in it. Ah...perfect-oh for chilly fall days! :bib:

Mary,

I didn't care for it too much either until I jazzed it up per some instructions somewhere here in Lean Cuisine. I make it with twice the amount of water called for, and once it's done cooking out of the microwave (before I cover it to steep), I add 2 chicken boullion cubes. Before I eat I stir in a tablespoon of Picante sauce (Mexican salsa). Now it's one of my 'look forward to' soups. :bib:

Ah, that HawaiiWhatNot. she's a hot one all right!

Adding Picante Sauce makes just about anything palatable in my book. Around the old MakeMeThinner Hacienda, we prefer  Frank's Hot Sauce  - it even makes Nyquil taste pretty good!

Isn't it funny about individual tastes?.... I L-O-V-E the chicken noodle soup, it's my favorite thing! I eat it with my MF crackers... like Nancy said, it is important to let it "steep". I always leave it with a lid on for 5 minutes after cooking... delicious.

I understand though, not everyone's 'buds' are the same! I couldn't stand the oatmeal, I tried it a couple times, and it just wasn't happening for me. (So I traded with Ravenkat for some shakes instead! She loves the oatmeal, so result= 2 happy ladies!)

I still want to try the minestrone and chilli... is it good anyone?

Oh, I LOVE the minestrone...

I usually leave the chili to Terry...but when I do prepare it, my buds like it best when it's cooked on the stovetop with onions, green peppers, chili powder, a packet of beef Fast Soup or beef bouillon and LOTS of Frank's Hot Sauce or salsa. Personally, I don't like to go to all that trouble for a teensy little one serving so I cook up several servings at once and then keep it in the refer for a quick nuke...

I am going to try these!

Postby Mrsshrinkinglady » October 25th, 2004, 4:05 pm

I definitley like some of the ideas you all gave me for doctoring the chicken soup up, THANKS :) I think I need to let it steep more for starters.
I LOVE the chili, haven't tried the minestrone as of yet, and I didn't
buy any crackers with my 1st months MF purchase, as I was afraid I would over indulge in them, but I plan to get some on my next order.
Last night I had Tilapia for dinner, with onion and herb Mrs Dash on it
and it was AWESOME!
I am awaiting with great excitement my order from Walden's Farms,
so that I can try some of their salad dressings. I have had the ranch before, but took some of your advice on posts as to the best ones to
purchase.
Well tonight I am having baked chicken with a salad and MF Ceaser dressing.
Thanks again for all the information!

I couldn't stand this soup either... until I added a 1-2 Tb. white wine vinegar. Then it became MUCH BETTER. Give it a shot if you want!

I'm speaking from the perspective though of someone who really loves:

1) Avocados dressed in potent dark Balsamic vinegar. Heaven. (Though avocados are a strict no-no while on Medifast.)

2) Steamed spinach with white wine vinegar. Mmmmmm! :eat:

Berk ~

:chef: What a grand idea to add vinegar to the Chicken Noodle Soup!

I wanna try it ASAP. I should think it would taste sortta like Hot & Sour Soup if it had a snort of Soy Sauce in it, too... :eat:

I love this Forum - always learning new things! ;)
