Hello all, new here

Postby BrianS » May 3rd, 2006, 9:20 pm

Hello to all,
My name is Brian and I am about to start this program. I have tried many diets in the past and most have failed. The one exception is atkins...but I went hard core and when I came off the diet I went through a divorce. With the stress of the divorce I ended up putting most of the weight back on. I am trying this now with the help of a support group...helpfully that will help.
About me,
Well, I am 6'4 and 300 pounds. I played football for 5 years in college and 3 in the NFL. I played at 320 but was actually in shape. (working out 5 hours a day and eating nothing but meat and fish will do that to you) Like so many before I hurt myself and never lost the weight. I fell back on my second love, flying. I went through the long process of obtaining my ratings and hours for the last 10 years and now work for a major airline. Instead of having all day to cook at home and access to a kitchen, I am limited to a cockpit and hotel room 1/2 of the month. What a change in lifestyle. I am trying this diet for a few reasons. 1, a few friends from football have used it and it worked for them. 2, easy to make food on the plane with cold and hot water mixed with the food pack. The last 8 years of flying I have struggled to get my weight down to 240 but went through a messy divorce and the weight just came back. I will keep my progress on this site throughout the next 3-6 months. I am aiming for 220 on the weight. Any advice would be great. I have heard that the first few days/weeks is hard. I tried last week but cheated. The cravings for sweets and breads was strong and I did not have access to the packets.

So thats is....hello to all and wish me luck

Hi Brian and welcome to the forums!

This forum has been invaluable for me! I LOVE being able to come here and vent and celebrate and commiserate!

I travel 260-280 days per year and I have NO PROBLEMS doing the program on the road. PM me or e-mail me with ANY questions you have!

My first suggestion is the ready to drink shakes! They're portable, tasty and wonderful!

Yes, the first 3-4 days SUCK for most people, but if you get through it, mild ketosis kicks in and most hungries disappear. I actufally felt a sense of euphoria after day 5. Don't be afraid to add an extra shake during your first few days. If you can get into mild ketosis, things DO get better! Post often! We'll be here! You can do this!

Welcome Brian! Good Luck wih the program. This is my second week and I feel great. The only problem I have had is drinking all the water. By adding a little more each day I am getting past that little issue as well.

This forum is a great way to get encouragement on the program and ideas about how to prepare the food and your lean & green meal.

You'll do great! :cleader: :cleader: :cleader:

Welcome Brian!!! Glad you're here!!! I think you'll do great on this program :) I have a question for you. You said you were doing this program in conjunction with a support group. Is this a medifast support group? If so, do you know how it got started? (I'm thinking of starting a mf support group here and just wanted to get some ideas :) )

I was referring to this site. unfortunatly, I do not have time to actually go to a support group so this online version is what I have. There were so many times in the past that I would want to quit, and have quit because I did not have a board/group to vent to and ask questions. So, what I was referring to was this site. I hope this helps.

Welcome Brian,

Glad to have you join us... The first 4 to 5 days were really rough for me, and I still have a bad day here and there, but after almost 5 weeks, it has gotten so much easier. And I have NEVER stuck to any eating plan this long, sooooo, If I can do this, anyone can do this...

Good luck, keep us posted, and if you ever have any ?, just be sure to post or pm anyone. Everybody here is soooo nice and helpful.

Terri
