HEADACHE!!!!

Postby QT2Lose45 » October 11th, 2006, 8:19 am

Hey everyone...

okay, yesterday was GREAT. The only temptation (and it was a big one!) was cooking my daughter's kid cuisine and wanting to nibble on a chicken nugget or take a bite of mac and cheese! BUT, I was strong, and totally resisted. It was tough though....

Anyway, today is day 2... i've had a shake and a bar already.... but my head is KILLIN' ME!!! I've taken 2 aleve... I've already had my 64 ounces of water (in 3 hours). I'm not hungry, but my head hurts! I've read this is normal, but WOW. :x

Any advise on dealing with the headaches? I don't want to cheat or anything, cuz i'm very motivated to get through this... but I'm hurting!

Thanks!

Way to go for getting through the temptation! You go!!

NEway, Lots of people get the headaches because the diet is very low sodium!! You might try having some chicken broth or a fast soup with some salt added.

Good luck!! Remember that IT DOES GET BETTER!

It counts as a snack. You can have 1 cube of broth per day, but when I do broth, I make it in a pan with boiling water. Then I drink half of it, and put the rest in the fridge for later. I get to feel like 2 snacks even though it is only 1. If you are going to do that, you might want to add some extra salt to the half that you drink first to help with the headache.

Good luck.

Thank you so much... I will definitely try that! I really like the idea of halving it so you get 2 snacks...

Hey QT,
Headache is a very common reaction during the first few days of MF! You are not alone, many go through this. The boullion/broth trick may work, but you may just have to wait it out. Sorry to dispense bad news
As for the water, I advise that you do a search in the forum. There have been numerous interesting, to me anyway, threads on this subject. Too much water consumed too quickly can lead to headache & lightheadness. In that case, boullion often does work to relieve symptoms.
Allie is right, give it a few days it will get better. Hang in, it is worth doing so!

LOL Cate, I knew you were gonna' chime in with a pickle!!! But yeah, QT, the sodium in the pickles will help too! Like everyone said, the headache will pass soon, and then you'll be in the Medizone and won't believe how great you feel!

Welcome, QT! In addition to the salt, sometimes a little caffeine helps. A diet soda is kinda like a two-fer in that situation.

Hang in there, make sure you're compliant and, like everyone has said before, it should pass. (If it doesn't, go see your doc.) I think it's part of the Medifast Initiation Ritual. We've all been there; you can do it!!

Thanks everyone...

the headached lasted ALL DAY.

Today is Day 3... so far, no headache, but i'm going to pop some aleve for 'preventive maintenance' :D

Does anyone else use the ketosis strips you can buy at Walgreens' to test to see if you are in ketosis yet? Just curious if any one uses them and what your opinion is. They are fairly inexpensive ($13 for 50 strips). Okay... let me know! THANKS.

Wish me luck to get over the hurdle today! I have been getting on the scale (which i know is BAD BAD BAD) but i can't help it.... it's been fluctuating alot the last few days, which i know is normal. All i can think of is being a smaller ME!!!

Here's a few posts about keto-stix.

If you do a search on "ketosis and sticks" (without the quotes) you'll find more discussion on it.

Remember, the scale's only job is to tell you data. I think I weighed evey day for the first 4 months, too, just because it was so exciting!! It's only bad when you start using the information to sabotage your progress (e.g. "I may as well have that Snickers bar, I haven't lost weight in days) or when use it as your ONLY measure of progress.
