I have a few questions please?

Postby Mrsshrinkinglady » October 27th, 2004, 3:29 pm

Hi All!
I am feeling great and doing wonderfully, but have a few questions.
I was on Medifast in 2002 and just the other day found a box of shakes,
still sealed and unopened. Do they have a shelf life?
I was not willing to try them without asking this first.
Second question::: I LOVE tomato soup (Campbell's) and wondered if before I order next month's MF supply, is the MF tomato soup a yeah or a nay??
I received my shipment of Davinci Sugar free syrups just now and am
looking forward to making some interesting concotions!!

Hello and welcome :)

The packets should have some sort of expiration on them I would guess. The current ones that I have seem to.

As to your second question... I dunno about the tomato soup. I don't care for it, so I've never purchased it.

I personally think the tomato soup is awful. I tried it once and never touched it again. I would just by an individual sample if I were you and see if you like it before investing in a lot of it.

The individual packets DO have an expiration date on them.

I HAVE had packets that were well beyond the stamped expiration date (I found six of them tucked in one of my leopardy suitcases) and had them anyway.

My only reservation is that MF contains a vitamin premix; vitamins can lose their potency after a while. I would think it would be in your best interest to NOT rely on a series of shakes that are 'expired' as we want you to have all the proper balanced nutrition. I had a Dutch Choc RTD that was a month beyond the expiration date and it was lumpy...

The MF tomato soup is creamy and it reminded me of the soup my Grammy used to make for me when I was a little girl. She made Campbell's Tomato soup with milk, rather than with water.

The Creamy Tomato is not my fave (I really like the Creamy Broccoli) but if it is seasoned with Tobasco and parsley, I enjoy it once in a while. If I had one I'd send you a packet to try so the best thing would be to order one sample packet when you place your next order as Sylvia suggested. It costs about $2.50 for a sample packet but that is better than buying one full box and then discovering it doesn’t make your tongue happy.

Be sure to prepare all soups according to the directions on the box. Put COOL water into the cup, bowl, or jar FIRST, then add the soup packet and stir until smooth. Cook for one minute and stir, cook for another 30 min. - 1 minute.

I LOVE the Robust Tomato Fast Soup - I think it is wonderful. I like it hot or chilled. :bib:

Tomato Soup

Postby Mrsshrinkinglady » October 28th, 2004, 1:29 pm

Nancy,
I love my campbells tomato soup made with milk,so would probably like the one you said reminded you of your Grandma;s but I wasn't sure it that was the creamy tomato or not?
Thanks everyone for the info on the expiration dates. They were 2 years old, hence I didnt catch the date.

Howdy doody Mary ~

I think it was wise to not consume those two year old packets of Medifast. The Sturgeon General (Oh how I wish I had a fish head emoticon to demonstrate the Sturgeon General!) may have declared the outdated Medifast products unfit for human consumption.

Medifast does not have the shelf life of a Moon Pie or Bob Barker!

Sheesh! If it had preservative type qualities, I’d bathe in Dutch Chocolate Medifast Plus Women’s Health shakes, rub a Caramel Nut meal bar on my face and wattle, anoint my eye area with Creamy Broccoli Soup and slather my hips and thighs with Chicken and Rice with Vegetables Soup! Hah! JK. ;)

Since we have a rash of recent newcomers to the Forum, I thought that I would take the time to give the newbies some ‘how to find it’ info.

If you are new to MakeMeThinner Readerland, kindly take a while to read the award winning Newsletters by clicking on the Newsletter Archives link:

You can also use the little magnifying glass icon on the top of the page to do a product or word search. Be as specific as possible to narrow down the search. You will be totally amazed at Whatcha find!

Here is wa-a-a-a-ay more info than you’ll ever care to know about the Tamater Soup, Kid.

Medifast has two types of Tomato Soup.

There is the Robust Tomato flavor Fast Soup - it is used as an ''extra" snack food for people on weight loss or weight management programs. It can be used to enhance the flavor and to increase the volume of other Medifast foods like the Homestyle Chili and the Minestrone Soup, it can be used as a quick pick-me-up when you feel like you need a little sumpin’ to tide you over to the next meal. I often prepare a tomato-y salad dressing from the Robust Tomato Fast Soup by adding some vinegar, Tobasco or Frank’s Hot Sauce, cilantro, onion flakes and a bunch of Mrs. Dash.

The Fast Soup is a thin consistency, similar to bouillon. It has 10 grams of sodium and 410 grams of potassium which makes it nice for people who are working out or just need a little bit of a ‘boost.’ It is NOT a meal replacement like the other products. It contains but 1 gram of protein, and about 30 calories. Review: you may have 2 packets of Fast Soup per day. They come 14 packets to a box and do not take the place of a meal - just a bonus item for you because you are getting skinny and because you are such a cutie! Other flavors: Delicate Chicken, Savory Beef.

Sometimes in the afternoon or evening if I get a case of the hungaries or I just wanna have something when others are snarfing carbolicious foods, I have a cup of Robust Tomato Fast Soup and ONE packet of Medifast Multi-grain crackers or the Medifast Garden Vegetable crackers. The crackers come packaged in 7 portion-controlled bagettes (They are TINY crackers and it is a TINY portion!) per box.

The crackers are also a bonus item – you may have ONE packet per day of the MF crackers. They have about 60 calories per packet.

Many of us use them crunched up in soup, as scoopers for the Essential 1 Chicken Salad or dip ‘em in salsa or dip ‘em in our Medifast Bean Dip. The recipe is in the Lean Cuisine Room. Here ya go for the link http://www.makemethinner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26

The Creamy Soups take the place of a meal – just like the shakes, oatmeal, Hot Cocoa, etc. The soups are designed to add variety to your Medifast weight loss program (they have 24 vitamins and minerals, 14 grams of protein and 110 calories per serving.

If you order a box of the Creamy Tomato Soup rather than a sample packet and ya can’t stomach it, you could always mix it with the Medifast Minestrone Soup or the Medifast Homestyle Chili and doctor it up with Worcestershire sauce and have half of it for one meal and the other half later!

I cannot afford to chuck stuff I don’t care for so I just figure out a way to use it – mix it with something I love or I doctor it up and then I just don’t order it the next time! I don’t like to waste food – I am a member of the International Clean Plate Club. :bib:
