I have some clothes from the 80's that are probably 12's but so out of style that I will never wear them in public again! But you bet your bippy I'm going to put them on when I can and run around the house in them! A tiny leather mini skirt is one of them.

When I got new carpet last month I went through every closet and cleaned it out. Two things that I hadn't been able to wear since 1990: a pair of motorcyle boots that go up to the knee and a pair of pink suede boots that go over the knee - my calves were just too fat. Well, they fit!!!!!!!!!! I have no use for pink suede boots but the fact that they fit now is enough to keep them around for a while.

What I am looking forward to wearing most is a diamond ring that my mom gave me when I graduated high school. Her mom had given it to her for the same reason. It's antique and has about 40 diamonds in it and a sapphire in the middle. It's gorgeous but can only fit on my pinky at the moment. I used to wear it on my ring finger, so I know it's possible. My mom is holding onto it for me - I can't wait to wear it home!!!!

I have three pieces of clothing that I can think of offhand that I want to be able to fit in again -- and then shrink out of!

One is the green slacks I was wearing when I had my car accident on October 30, 2002. I gained about 35 pounds as a result of forced inactivity following that accident, and I want to wear them again. They were new at the time -- was probably only the third or fourth time I had worn them, and I miss them! Fitting into them is probably only ten pounds away at this point. Actually, I tried them on last night, and I can zip and button them, but they are too tight to wear still.

The second is the infamous "black jeans" that date back to my law school days (I graduated in 1983, so . . . ). They aren't really anything I'd wear anymore, but I keep them around to motivate me when I am trying to lose weight. They are probably 30-35 pounds away.

The third is something I never actually have worn. It's a lovely pale pink silk suit -- skirt and jacket -- with an Oriental flair to it. I bought it at Lord & Taylor's in NY in 1995 because it was on sale and at that time I had just lost 50 pounds on WW and figured that with another 10 pounds it would fit perfectly. I think it's a size 18, but a "real" 18, not an 18W or some such. I think that suit is probably 50 pounds away. I love it, and I WILL wear it at least once. It'd be nice to be able to fit into it this summer.

That suit represents the smallest I've ever been as an adult, so I don't have anything sitting in my closet beyond that to shoot for. I do think it would be wonderful to have to get rid of everything in my closet (except I LOVE my black suede jacket!) and start over!

24K,

You will do it! I have literally nothing in my closet from before I lost weight. I have purchased an entirely new Fall/Winter wardrobe and will need to start on Spring/Summer soon! Fortunately, I live in Houston so I can wear a lot of what I bought year round.

Not only has buying a new wardrobe been fun, but it is just one additional thing that keeps me on the straight and narrow. I will NOT buy bigger clothes again and have discarded or sold all of my fat clothes so they are no longer an option.

Sylvia

p.s. do you practice law now? I am a lawyer too.

Sylvia, I've read lots of your posts around here, and you are an extra-special inspiration to me because you started Medifast on my birthday! That shouldn't really mean anything, except that it's nice to see that date on all your posts, and to see how quickly you took all that weight off is really motivating. Thank you for hanging around this place to help out the rest of us.

Yes, I do practice law; I'm in the General Counsel's office for a large company and I give advice and occasionally represent the Company in litigation. I'm in the Greater Los Angeles area. How about you?

How funny - I actually started MF the day after my birthday - so we have something else in common.

I also practice law for a large company, managing a group of attorneys and negotiators who support a large business unit.

It didn't seem like a short time while I was in the middle of it but now it seems like it flew by! It is very do-able.

Feel free to PM me if I can help you along or if you're struggling. I'm happy to help if ever I can.

Sort of funny to read this… Ya know, based on pictures, and posts and responses to posts, you build up an image of a person in your mind, sort of thinking you know what this person is like, trying to figure what they think, how they think, etc.. Then this pops up, 300 posts later, Sylvia a Lawyer, AND – managing a group of attorneys…?!?!?! Yikes (good yikes)

Yes your Honor..

Sort of funny, Sylvia with a whole new twist…. I now picture the whole Al Pacino (Sylvia) thing, in the movie: Devil's Advocate, where he is presiding over the entire room, as he introduces everyone to Keneau Reeves....

OK Mike, so I'm sort of afraid to ask what you thought I did for a living...

Hee! Sylvia, I think ya scared him! LOL

Often, when I meet people socially and they ask what I do for a living, I just say "I'm in [what the Company does]" and that's usually the end of it. If I ever get to the point of telling them that I'm a lawyer, they usually look at me in shock and say "but you're too nice to be a lawyer!" (if they only knew!).

Sounds like you got the same thing going here. :D

It’s not what I thought you did or did not do, just never occurred to me. I am not trying to make this sound the wrong way, I am very impressed!!! Like I am standing in greatness.

I have a friend, great friend, from Singapore, same age as me, came to this country with about $50.00 in his pocket, put himself through college, law degree, now OWNS his own firm here in So. California, ironically, specializing in Immigration. When I am near him, it’s just like super respect, I dunno, just a great accomplishment, being a Lawyer, I am just impressed with you, cause I never knew.

I always knew there were of few good lawyers out. The key is to find them and keep them on your side.

gaggle of attorneys

Postby bk » January 22nd, 2005, 3:34 pm

who knew there would be so many of us durn lawyers here? i surely didn't.

just saying hi, and giving my tip for getting rid of the old clothes - get rid of at least one piece per week. some aren't of the right quality to donate - they go to the rag bin. the ones to donate get put in a bag, and taken to the donation bin when the bag gets full. that way cleaning out your closet isn't such a chore. plus, you get the weekly excitement of saying at least ONE piece of clothing is just too big and you shouldn't wear it any longer.

i'm sure most of us have enough clothes that it shouldn't be a problem to rid yourself of one piece a week! [i personally have MORE than enough]

as for me, i dug out a pair of shorts i have had since i was 16. i'll be very happy to fit into them, and as 24K said, then shrink out of!

Great idea, bk. Isn't it fun to say :byebye: buh-bye to those baggaloons?

Congrats on your 10 pound weight loss, too!
