HAPPY BIRTHDAY! At a restaurant I've never been to before, I usually ask for grilled chicken, fish, or small steak and a side of steamed broccoli. If the only vegetables they serve are the usual mixed broccoli, zucchini and carrots, I'll just ask for double vegetable and give my husband all the carrots. This has worked fine at almost all restaurants. If the chicken or fish portion looks too small, I'll ask for an extra side portion. Another option is to ask for the Chicken Caesar salad without the dressing or cheese. I always bring my Walden Farm individual packets with me and sometimes add it to salsa for a dressing if I don't feel there are enough vegetables in the salad.

One of my favorite out places is Ruby Tuesday. Don't know if they have them by you, but they have an atkins/south beach type menu section that lists all the stuff with carbs, fat grams, ounces, etc. Even told me what was in the mashed cauliflower (my BIG treat!)

Happy Birthday, Arklahoma!!

My favorite when hubby and I went on a trip two weekends ago was the Southwest Chicken Caesar -- minus croutons, corn, tortilla strips/chips, etc. and dressing on the side. There wasn't enough chicken, but there were a few tablespoonfuls of cheese to counter it. (Probably not low fat, but as Dogma and others have said, if a splurge is a must, go for good fats and protein).

My birthday was super-fantastic! Hubby and I went to Red Lobster and we both feel that I did very well. I read the menu before we went and planned our choices before I was hungry. Shrimp cocktail was really what I was craving so we pre-planned to order the appetizer and split it. I used only a smidge of the cocktail sauce but it was oh so amazing. For our side salad, I had the red wine vinagrette dressing on the side and tried the dip your fork first method which surprisingly gave so much taste but very little dressing. By the time I finished, you couldn't even tell that I had used any dressing at all!

We both had the lunch sized portion of the roasted tilapia with veggies in a bag and it was utterly to die for! My husband and I were both talking on the way to the restaurant that this was probably going to be a piece of fish with some lemon juice on it and would probably taste "healthy" but we were both shocked. The seasonings were so rich and full that we both couldn't believe that this meal was only 297 calories. The veggies that come in the bag apparently are just a mix of whatever they have on hand. When my husband opened his bag, he had a ton of carrots and I got this uh-oh look on my face. I was so angry b/c he had a ton of carrots and I'm thinking "great ... I don't even get to eat on my birthday" but it must have been fate b/c my bag only had celery, onion, and peppers ... WHEW!

This is a prime example of why I'm doing the full fast. Portion control is NOT my strong point. The whole time I was eating, I kept commenting on how much food this was and how full I was already getting ... but I kept eating. About 3/4 through the fish, my husband said, "why are you still eating if you're full?" Let me tell you that you could've heard a pin drop. I was flabbergasted. I totally felt like a failure and dropped my fork. It really scared me b/c I've been full-fasting for seven weeks with no difficulties at all but my first outing with REAL food proves to show that I'm still unsuccessful at listening to my body's cues. I'm so glad that I'm doing the complete program and will have to work on the L/G later. I guess I need more than 7 weeks of practice <grin>.

After lunch, I went shopping which is kind of a birthday ritual. I guess I felt guilty about the fish b/c I walked through the mall for > 8 hours. Subconciously, I think I was trying to negate the lunch but I still feel good about my choices. I just wish I had stopped eating before my DH had to point out the obvious!

What I want to know is...duing that eight hour shopping spree, did you try on any smaller sizes? :?: :?: Man, your hubby sure is a patient man to shop with you that looooooong! :shock:

Sounds to me like you made some great choices for your meal. You know, when I measure out my L for dinner whatever it is, the amount seems so
HUGE that I can hardly finish it. But we are told that we need it for the protein and calories for our bodies. (297 sounds reasonable!) The veggies you got were also the best. You were definitely not a failure even if you had eaten the whole thing! :eat:

You are doing wonderful on the full fast and will soon learn portion control---it is all spelled out for us in our MF 'bible'. You might even do an L&G meal once or twice a week, IF you want to try it sometime. :bib:

You are a fantastic person, ARKLAHOMA, and what a sweetheart of a man you have! :heart: You are helping make our MF weight loss journey a pure 'joy ride'! :drive:

Lizabette ... I did try on smaller sizes and it was a great feeling. I actually did buy a shirt off a clearance rack but my true shopping goal was a new handbag for spring. Found several that were close but no cigar. BTW, my hubby only lasted about two hours and then I had to ditch him @ the house b/c he was dragging me down :lol:

Never take hubby on a serious shopping spree!
