h2o question

Postby falisamarie » January 24th, 2006, 7:15 am

Ok I feel really silly asking this but here goes---I have heard different people talk about what temperature you sould drink your water at. Some say you should drink at room temp while others say drink it cold. Is there really any difference at all??? The reason I ask is because I have never ben a big water drinker but I find it so much easier to get it down when I Drink it cold.

Morning, Lisa-

I have never heard about medical or dietary physical reasons you should have certain temperature water. I have heard, however, that if are feeling particularly hungry or "empty," hot water beverages (tea, bouillon) tend to make you feel more full. I agree with that - it's almost like you've had a meal, when you haven't!

Also, if you are struggling getting the water in, let me make a suggestion: buy those 24oz sport bottles, with the pop-up lid. I bring one to work every morning, and then refill it throughout the day from our watercooler. I find that it is SO MUCH EASIER to "chug" the water when it's in this bottle, I just tilt back and start slurping. If I am drinking from a straight glass or cup, I find it much more difficult to drink large quantities.

Good luck!

Thanks Lauren

What I do is buy the 16oz bottles by the case and I have been getting in at least 6 of those a day as long as they are cold!!

I agree with you about the hot beverages though they do fill you up

Keep shaking

I was having trouble getting all my water in until I found a cup/bottle thingy called the migo. It wasn't cheap ($14.95), but it holds 16 oz. and has a big straw (about 3/8 in. in diameter). I can chug 16 oz. in no time.

Hi guys, I bought a 2 qt. (64 oz) sports bottle type thing at walmart... it's pretty big, but what I do is fill it full of ice at home, and top with water. That way, at work, I just drink from this. I know how much I have drank during the day. My goal is to drink it all during work, so that way I know I don't HAVE to have any water when I get home.

So far its working!

Water temperature

Postby Jan » January 24th, 2006, 10:35 am

Hi Lisa,
I don't think it makes any difference at all as to if we drink our water hot or cold. Other than I toooo think hot beverages are more filling. The only thing I've ever heard about drinking ice cold water involves water and people who do extreme workouts. I'm not even certain if this is true or a falacy but I've been told that ice water can shock their systems. Generally they are very very hot and sweaty. I've noticed some do avoid the drinking fountains -- at the gym-- and carry room temp water. Maybe they are just drinking filtered water. As for us -- I don't think we are doing extreme workouts -- so we most likely don't have to worry either way.

I've heard arguments for both, including that drinking cold water increases your metabolism slightly because your body has to work harder to warm it up. I can't imagine it makes that big a difference, though.

I used to only be able to drink it cold, and lately for some reason (I think because it's been cold out) I prefer it straight from the pantry. Doesn't seem to have made a difference either way.

I have heard just what Dogma has. Colder water requires exerted energy more to heat it up.... I jsut like it better a little colder, but there are times when I drink it room temp.
