OK guys, I need some advice from your experiences!

Hey Guys,

I've been doing Medifast since January 5th and I've lost 26 lbs. so far which I'm happy about. But....But....But I could've lost so much more if I wouldn't stray and cheat on the diet. I probably cheat once a week to once every two weeks. What is going on and why can't I stay on this better? I'm happy with the weight loss and even doing the diet this way, I will lost the weight but it will take a little longer. I can't help but wonder though why others are being able to stay on this for a long time without cheating and boy I'm not being able to do that. I have read so many posts about why people eat such as boredom, emotions, etc. Does anyone eat just because they like the taste of good food? My husband is a chef and truthfully this is the only reason I eat. I LOVE the taste of good food. Well anyone who can offer suggestions would be greatfully appreciated! Thanks guys in advance for any suggestions.

What Vicky said sounds right to me. Also, I noticed you posting but never registering or being counted in the weekly roll call, so are you avoiding being accountable and responsible by not doing so? Maybe that is another reason.

First of all, congrats on losing 26 lbs. :D Every pound lost makes a difference.

As to why some people stick to the program and some people stray, I think most of the time it's a matter of priorities. If you're not keeping true to the program, then that means that, at that moment, something else is more important to you than losing weight. Sometimes, that important thing could be something like getting healthy after a severe illness, or dealing with a family crisis . . . things that will naturally dwarf all other priorities. Maybe for you enjoying the excellent food your husband prepares is a higher priority than losing weight quickly. That's a personal decision, and no one can say whether it's right and wrong, it just is what it is. If, however, you decide that rapid weightloss is more important to you than some tasty little morsel, you may need to remind yourself of that fact when temptation rears its ugly head. That's why lots of us have made motivation lists - it helps us keep focused on what is most important to us.

Our motivations will dictate our behavior, and our behavior will reveal our true motivations.

Well you are all right to a certain extent. I have been posting and I've never registered simply because I haven't taken the time to learn how to do that. If you guys told me how it might actually make me a bit more accountable. Secondly, I don't have as much weight to lose as a lot of you do. I am 5'0" and weigh about 153 lbs. right now so I have about 35-40 lbs. more to lose. I know I could do this in about 2 months if I just stuck to it. I've never had any health problems, etc that makes me want to lose weight. I just want to lose! I weighed 115 lbs and was a size to up until 5 years ago when I got married and then had a baby. I guess I don't have as much motivation as some of you. I'm not uncomfortable, I just want to be where I was. I did used to be uncomfortable! I was 190 lbs when I started a weightloss journey about a year ago. Maybe this is why too. Sorry I'm rambling on, I'm just trying to figure out what I need to do. I guess I just need to make a decision within myself! Thanks guys!

I'm one of those that has a lot more to lose than you.

Also, this isn't my first time on Medifast. This is my second and last. Last year, I did the program just as you did. I never reaped the true benefits because I cheated so often. When I went off plan, I learned valuable lessons and only gained five or so back. It took me a year to get back on.

I don't know about anyone else, but I just said, that's it, I've had it. I have the ability to fix this problem. I made a deal with myself that I would stick to this program for ONE MONTH without cheating. I took it one day at a time, I took it one hour at a time. At times, I took it one minute at a time, but this was the ONLY promise I made to myself that I was going to keep. Know what happened? I lost 26 lbs in one month. I don't need to make that promise again.

Don't get me wrong, I love food! I LOVE food so much! It's not about emotions, it's not about stress. I LOVE GREASE, I LOVE SUGAR, I love it all. I just decided I loved myself more. When you get to that point, and you don't need to be morbidly obese to get to that point, you'll just do it. That's what I did. It took me a year to get to that point. I got there, I hope you do too because you'll be happier.

This is the most effective plan I've ever done (and I've done them all). You've seen the results with cheating, imagine how you'd do with complete compliance? You'd be at your goal so fast, you wouldn't know what hit you!

All those foods will be there in maintenance (in moderation).

Also, if you want to register, just look at the top of the page under the phone numbers under log in, that should take you to where you can register. It's free and easy.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

One thing that I do that might help you is before I put anything in my mouth or even think of having something I really think to myself is this really worth the calories and I will tell you something....99.9% of the time it is not worth it!

WOW...What great posts!!!! Reading all of these wonderful responses (Especially Dayna's and DeDe's) are SO inspiring!!!! It's good to do a little soul searching from time to time....to ask ourselves "Where am I right now? How did I get here? Am I happy? Why do I make the decisions I make? etc"

When we REALLY get honest with ourselves, we break free from the vicious cycle of Denial and Bargaining. Then we're free to make positive changes that enhance our mental and physical well being!

Thank you all for there wonderful inspiring posts!!!!

Thank you so much guys for your great responses. You guys are right, I just have to make a decision if I want to do this for 2 more months to get to my goal or if I want to do it for 4 more months with cheating along the way. Either way, I've learned I will get there with Medifast, I just need to decide how I'm going to do it. Maybe even if I just decide to cheat once a month intead of once a week that would make a HUGE difference. Well thanks so much guys for all of your support.

Sara,

I know how you feel. I was always a perfect weight before I got pregnant for the first time 8 years ago. I am 5'3" and weighed around 120. I wore a comfortable size 8. Well, I gained 70 pounds during my first pregnancy, and ended up right around 190...not a pretty sight. I lost a lot of the weight but not all before I got pregnant again...with each successive pregnancy I have always lost back to the 140 lb mark, but have been unable to lose that last 20 pounds! I sooooo much want to get back to where I was!

I know what I used to look and feel like, and this is not it! :x I started Medifast for the first time in October of 2005 at a weight of 165ish. Baby #4 was about 7 months old, and I was determined that I was going to lose it all this time. I had the right tool finally (Medifast). Well, right about the time I got down to around 140, I found out that I was pregnant again with #5. I am back here again, after trying to get back on the program back in the fall. I was unable to "stick" to the program, similar to you. Two months is all it would have taken. I could have been finished by the Holidays... but I told myself I couldn't do it, and that it was no big deal...

Last week, I did well, but lost it over a cake I had made for my son's birthday. After I did that, I had a revelation: it is a big deal to me now! I am ready to get this monkey off my back once and for all!

I love to cook...it is my hobby. I have a large family to feed so it is also a necessity. I also love good food. I love trying new recipes. However, I can do anything, including staying away from food, for the short time it will take me to get to where I want to be.

Something that helped to motivate me was a calendar. I took it and figured out my average weight loss for a week. Then I took my current weight and subtracted that loss for each week until my goal weight was reached. That way I can see that if I make the right choices, there is an end in sight, and I can count the days or weeks! However, if I do not make the right choices and keep playing around the end will keep moving, and I will get frustrated and depressed. I put a copy of my calendar on my refrigerator, pantry and mirror to remind me!

The choice is mine...I can never have another Day one again, or I can have one every week or two, and keep moving my calendar forward!

I am on my last Day 6!! I am choosing to stop moving my calendar! By our vacation in June, I will be done!!! I will have new clothes!! I will have more energy, and I when I look into my mirror, I will finally be able to recognize myself!
