Grrr....

Postby GucciGoo » May 23rd, 2006, 5:24 am

This should be an inspiration to you all.

I went out to Friday's with my Mom and one of my (overweight) girlfriends this weekend. I ordered a burger, no bun, no fries, and a side of grilled onions and peppers. They both ordered the full Jack Daniels meal and garlic mashed potatoes.

When they ordered, my friend asked "Is it going to bother you to see us eat all this?" and I said no. A few minutes later she said "You are being so good. It would kill me to just eat a burger with all this other food around". Five minutes later she said "Are you sure this is not bothering you?".

You know what I said???

"Will it bother you when I am wearing a size 6 bikini to the beach this summer and you are not?"

I never heard such silence in my life.

Lol! I have read that overweight friends can be a real hinderance to losing weight - mine is my overweight family, not my friends.

I make DH, who can eat anything and not gain a pound, eat everything I want to try, just seeing and smelling it makes me not want it anymore.

Ouch. Great comeback.

I am lucky that my family is really supportive. They still make and eat all the no no's for me but they dont ask me a hundred times if it bothers me.

I don't think my boyfriend has quite understood yet how pissed off he makes me when he makes cracks about me not eating real food. Or I will say I'm not sure what I want to eat and his only response can be "meat". God I want to hit him sometimes. He's very obese and really has been his entire life. I would sort of think he'd understand more, but then he treats his weight sort of like a joke. Completely different from how I feel about it.

I'm glad my roommate is supportive. I see him more often, and I think it would completely undermine me if he was as derisive about the whole thing.

lol that is so funny. and i totally agree about overweight friends that arent doing anything about their weight kind of being a hinderance by being like oooh u can have this.. ill just be like...no...no i really cant.

one of my best friends...my friend kris...we were talking the other night about my diet and she was telling me you cant deny yourself otherwise you will binge later. i tried explaining that it isnt so much me denying myself anything... i can have some of the things i used to like in moderation once i lose weight and develop a healthier lifestyle..she just was like no no your denying yourself and it sorta pissed me off. she is in shape too so i would of thought she would understand more. i dont think people understand the whole MF thing unless they are doing it. people look at me strange when i try and explain what my diet consists of. oh well... they will understand results...

but i digress lol... my sister was talking like that while eating lasagna this weekend...i should have said something similar :D

BRAVO!!!!! As much as we try to be compassionate and understanding of others in similar situations, there are some who just need to shut their 'motor-mouths', and keep stuff to themselves, while they wrestle with their own inner feelings and needs. Hopefully, your friend got your message in more ways than one--just maybe, you are the encouragement she needs to go on the MF program, too! :D

I think it was a little rude, to be completely honest.

It doesn't sound like she was trying to be mean.

It's true that she doesn't sound like she was trying to be mean, but clearly she doesn't understand that she _is_ in fact, being mean or rude herself. You ask once, fine. Twice maybe.. but every few minutes??

Manly, from other posts I've seen of yours I think perhaps you get away with having less support than some of us :) I know for a fact how angry I get when I feel like people are constantly bringing up my diet or pushing me to "stop depriving myself". This is hard for me. I really like a lot of things that I cannot eat during the weightloss phase. I am an emotional eater. I eat for comfort. I eat for pms. I eat because it makes me feel quiet and satiated inside mentally as well as physically. Changing all of those head trips into something healthier is difficult. Women traditionally look towards their female friends for support and encouragement. When you feel like you are getting the opposite it hurts.. even when it is completely unintentional.

I don't know. I just think it would have been better to explain the situation, rather than making a rude comment.
