I know we can't post links here, but maybe Tim could make an exception for this one and give it a home. I think it is very helpful, and I rarely push touchy-feely crap on anyone.

Great article, Alex! This was also Mike's epiphany (sp?) when he started gaining weight back after gastric bypass surgery -- it's stomach surgery, not brain surgery.

I do appreciate the fact that, in the Take Shape for Life program, healthy body is only one part of the equations. Healthy mind is another part (as is the area of healthy finances). Otherwise, this is just another diet, not an enduring lifestyle.

I'll keep the article in my portfolio. Thanks, again, for the link.

I finally read the article and man is it right on. I know that when I first decided to have bypass surgery that I felt it would make everything all better.
Yes, I lost weight on it, but inside I was the same me. The same person who enjoyed comforting himself with the wrong foods. The same person who still had the same issues with self esteem. So, I started gaining the weight back and not feeling good about it.

Then I started this program, and its changed my life. Yes, I am still heavy, and yes I am still working on my weight, but at least I am happier. I'm not down in the dumps all the time and I see myself as someone of worth now. It's not just the losing the weight, its who I have become because I have done this.

We all know that diets don't work. I also know that looking at a surgical procedure as a means to making me happy didn't work either.
What works, is exactly what the author said. Start working on being happy and the rest will come.
