Geri, your post was awesome, sweet, sad, inspiring, and a reflection that life's challenges have just made you stronger!
I thought you might be interested to know that I quit smoking last April (after about 12 years of smoking, and I'm only 30yrs old!), and it was quitting the cigs that made me realize I could quit the food too! Really, it gave me the confidence to do the diet, an awareness that I could really do anything I want if I set my mind to it. I mention it because you could have the same experience, just in reverse order. You'll continue to kick butt on the diet front, and realize (again, since you've already realized your strength) that you can do anything, and quit the smoking.
Geri, I am totally NOT one of those ex-smokers who suddenly tries to get everyone to quit. To be honest, I find it one of the most enjoyable habits ever! :-) haha If they could invent a healthy cigarette, I'd be the first in line. So, I am totally not coming after you to quit. But I will say that EATING and SMOKING are both oral fixations, and I have found it much easier to manage them both by not doing either. You might actually find the diet easier if you aren't smoking. I know that seems counter-intuitive, but you'd finally rid yourself of the need to put something in your mouth. Just a thought...
Best of luck and success to you!
Lauren
