Geri, your post was awesome, sweet, sad, inspiring, and a reflection that life's challenges have just made you stronger!

I thought you might be interested to know that I quit smoking last April (after about 12 years of smoking, and I'm only 30yrs old!), and it was quitting the cigs that made me realize I could quit the food too! Really, it gave me the confidence to do the diet, an awareness that I could really do anything I want if I set my mind to it. I mention it because you could have the same experience, just in reverse order. You'll continue to kick butt on the diet front, and realize (again, since you've already realized your strength) that you can do anything, and quit the smoking.

Geri, I am totally NOT one of those ex-smokers who suddenly tries to get everyone to quit. To be honest, I find it one of the most enjoyable habits ever! :-) haha If they could invent a healthy cigarette, I'd be the first in line. So, I am totally not coming after you to quit. But I will say that EATING and SMOKING are both oral fixations, and I have found it much easier to manage them both by not doing either. You might actually find the diet easier if you aren't smoking. I know that seems counter-intuitive, but you'd finally rid yourself of the need to put something in your mouth. Just a thought...

Best of luck and success to you!

Lauren

I have to admit, you brought a tear to my eye. I said goodbye to my dad when I was 11. I also said goodbye to my husband 5 years ago and Hello to independence and a tool box. My garbage disposal and I have had many more arguments than when I was married. :lightsword: I'm still struggling with the goodbye to my weight. Just can't seem to stick to MF longer than 3 days. EVERYTIME I have blown it is on the 3rd day at dinner. :bib:
Anyways, great post!
Thanks

Like a suspense novel, I had to skip down to the end of the story to make sure you weren't telling us goodbye. :x

Satisfied you still loved us, I went back and read the whole thing through.

I believe you must be an aspiring writer at heart...you certainly have the gift! Thank you for sharing your carefully thought out insight on your life experiences. And so very beautifully written.

And you didn't know we cared so much about you, did you?

Hi

Geri,

When WE'RE ready, I'll be your quitting smoking buddy! My DR told me not to do both, so I picked the weight first. I will let go of the cigarettes when I'm done with this journey and I'm sure you will to...Maybe we can do it together!

DeDe

P.S. Maria, I'm SO sorry! I don't know what to say except that we're here if you need to talk about it!
