Glucerna Bars

Postby mellowmom » May 11th, 2006, 10:10 am

Before I went on Medifast, I had purchased a box of Glucerna Bars. Can I use them on occasion and still stay on plan. Here's the nutritional info on the Chocolate Caramel Bar:

Calories: 140
Total Fat: 4g
Saturated Fat: 3g
Cholesterol: <5g
Sodium: 150mg
Potassium: 80mg
Total Carbs: 25g
Dietary Fiber 1 g
Sugars: 3g
Sugar Alcohols:10g
Protein: 6g

Would appreciate it if any HA's or fellow diabetics would comment. Just a little bit more info, since I've been on the plan I no longer need medication and my blood sugars have been perfect.

Thanks,
Carmel

Hi Carmel,
The carbohydrates are a little high and the protein is a little low in the alternative bar.. They are 3 grams of carbs higher and 4 grms of protein lower than the MF bar. So the balance is a little off. I would feel much better if you stuck with the MF Diabetic bar since protein is quite important to the "diabetic balance" and of course we really want to balance the carbs and proteins. You are doing well, I personally wouldn't fool around. Plus the MF bar has 1 gr of sugar and the other has 10 grms of sugar alcohols. I'n not sure how this translates.
But, the word from here is "stick with a proven thing -- the MF bar"

Carmel ~ This bar probably wouldn't hurt from time-to-time but it's really best to stay on-plan, if possible. It's so easy to switch something here and then a little something there and then wonder why we're not losing.

I would stick with the MF bars. I think that what Jan and Ark said is right on. Sometimes a little change here or a little change there can add up to litlle or no weight loss.

My 2 cents

Postby Ginabobina1969 » May 12th, 2006, 1:47 pm

Lol My 2 cents are that in a pinch..your out of bars, craving a bar, MUST have a bar  it would be a way smarter choice to grab one of these opposed to say a Snickers bar. Course, I wouldn't make a habit out of it but..again in a pinch I personally would use one! :)

Hugs,
Gina
