full fasters?

Postby izabelle » October 11th, 2004, 5:52 pm

I have been doing the modified fast for 1 1/2 mo's now and have only dropped 8 lbs. I am getting ready to switch to the full fast (with regular Dr. checkups) to speed up the process and eliminate food choices (which is my downfall).

Hope this doesn't sound stupid?!
Question is: Are you only doing the shakes or are you incorporating all the MF products into this. Please give me a sample day so I have something to go by. Please include any diet sodas ect... Perhaps if I have 7 sample days then I will follow them exactly as you write them and hopefully win this daggum battle.

Thanks in advance!

And is there any good sales this month on products I have missed? (other than the 1-3 of Oct sale)

Hi, izabelle. Here's some input to consider. It will answer part of your question, but part will remain to be accomodated by others.

I've been doing shakes only -- no other products (MF or otherwise). I, also, have strong tendencies to take a mile if I have an inch, so I wanted to make it as unchallenging mentally as possible.

On a work day, I take 2 caffeine-free diet cokes to work with me -- otherwise, like at home, I have no such soda. I also buy at least two large cups of decaf while I'm at work -- mostly, I try to keep myself full with these beverages. In the last week or two, I've been adding bouillion to the mix but I almost regret it because of the high sodium level that seems to be causing water retention that wasn't there before. I've also been chewing too much sugarfree gum -- I wouldn't recommend doing that. The sweetness is becoming a chronic lure and it really does upset the stomach to chew too much of it.

I'd suggest working with whatever number of shakes works best for you. For some people, five is on the low end. I almost always have more than five these days because I'm also exercising about 4 days a week and about 400 calories' worth per time. On those days, I seem hungry much of the time, and when I'm hungry, I have another shake. I'm not extremely rigid with myself because it seems I'm on a thin line about temptation lately and I'd rather have enough MF than go nuts and have other things. So, I can't tell you a precise thing to do, unfortunately. It's more a matter of setting a kind of emotional limit to stick to the shakes and draw the line with taking in other "goods", from my own style of doing this.

I'd truly recommend the simpleness of the shake-only. Seems like a harder strategy, but it's been tolerable and I really do like the shakes -- have become a powder-licker for the powder that sticks to the insides of the blender jar, etc!! Who would think??

So, good luck to you and I hope you find a pattern that's comfortable and that seems easiest.

Hi Izabelle,
I'm doing the full fast for precisely the reason you're switching. I don't want to be tempted by any food. I don't have to cook or shop. It's delightfully easy.
I've been on the program for just over 1 month now and unlike Dutch, I use the shakes, soup and oatmeal. I haven't had any of the bars yet. My day is the same always.
06:30 shake
09:30 shake
12:30 soup
03:30 PM shake
06:30 PM soup
09:30 PM oatmeal
This schedule works for me during the week, but on weekends if I'm planning to be somewhere over one of the times I'm supposed to eat, I take along a RTD and a bottle of water in an insulated lunch bag. I'm going to get the bars next time because they will be even easier to take along if I'm away from home.
Hope this helps.
:D

Here's another example. I've been using the full suite of products from the beginning. While I'm on the modified plan now, when I started I did the full fast and my schedule was:

7:00 shake
10:00 shake
1:00 bar
4:00 shake
7:00 soup (with small green salad)

When I started exercising, I would sometimes add some pudding in the evening after my workout.

Thank you all soo much. I haven't started on the full fast yet, but plan to tomorrow. I have some soups and oatmeals left so will incorporate them in and see how I do. I did have a salad today for lunch but thats all I plan on eating. Still need to get in 3 more shakes and it is already 6pm here. I don't drink too much soda, use those short dt coke cans and the rest of the time its water water and some iced tea (mine not MF).
I also have a few cups of coffee in the morning.
Please wish me luck. Thanks again and more info is always aprreciated.

So far so good. Getting ready to drink #5 and will have my last one at 9pm. I REALLY miss my salad today though. :(

I will keep trying to post in as suggested to me by Lois and hopefully will get on the track and stay there until all the blubber is harpooned by the fat fairy!

LOL!! I love that mental picture of the fat fairy with a harpoon. Glad to hear that you're going strong. It gets easier. It really does get a bit euphoric, or maybe it's just the thought of facing each day a tiny bit smaller that brings on the euphoria. Keep yourself grounded in this group and you'll be surprised how much strength you will derive from that. The days will just fly by. Really.

I'm putting my 2cents in kinda late, but haven't logged in as much as usual this week 'cause I've been outa town. I do 3 shakes a day, 1soup w/MF crackers, 1 bar. I'm also careful to have a shake be my last meal of the day 'cause someone here mentioned that you shouldn't have the bars last thing.

I'm still relatively new, but I'm happy to say I'm almost done with week #3! I knew I couldn't do the modified plan 'cause I'd probably cheat. For me it's kinda "all or nothing." But I also knew that only shakes would never work for me, I'd never have "staying power." But the soups and bars give a nice "flavor break" during the day.

Well, I started out ok on the full fast, but forgot to take shakes to work a few times and had to have a salad and small piece of grilled chicken. I have lost 3 more lbs and have been going from full fast to 5/1 every few days when I really need to eat.
I also have been teased by aunt flo for the last two weeks (spotting daily)!! No, nothing is physically wrong with me, I have an IUD and this is normal. I believe this has a major impact on my cravings and wieght loss though. Imagine having PMS for 2 weeks or better. UGH! I am now watching my sodium to try to curb the water retention and hopefully that will help. Have also been using MF appetite shakes and haven't noticed much difference with those yet.

Just rambling here and thought I should check in. Thanks for your help and hopefully I can stay on full fast longer than 3 days and continue for 3 months. Later folks.

I might get slapped for this, but the rules say, 64oz. of water a day min. This is not only Medifast Gospel, but common sense as you know. I am of the belief, liquid is liquid within reason. I drank what I wanted including D/C. You need to get in an ample supply of water, no matter what, but if you are having problems, drink D/C or what ever else has 00000 across the board. The only content your alternative drinks can have is sodium, and this includes the bouillon. The remainder if the pyramid needs to have all 0’s. If it’s D/C (caffeinated or not) that will get you to your 64oz (I believe in 100 oz. per day – and I still do this) then do it. Drinking water, it is necessary to flush out the system, so get it in. I lost well over 100 pounds drinking most everything under the sun, water and D/C included. Just remember 00000 across the board.

I do appreciate your concern, and i take it that way, hey be positive.
What i mean about the water is, normally i drink more than 80oz, but during the week i have the period i can't to the point i get sick, and it is because i have an hormanal problem, during that week i retain a lot of water, more than you can believe, and i can't forme my system to get liquids, any, but i can take from time to time any D/C, that was my concerns.

Normally i only drink water, water, water, and as much as poddible, due is the only way to flush your system and slimming down, and BLEIEVEME ALL IS TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Hey there, Nana ~

Yup, you got great advice from the above Mediposters!

I always suggest that people try to limit diet pop to two a day but there are times, particularly early in the weight loss process when people NEED more to get them through the hungries! Water is always the best first choice.

I understand the water retention issue...my legs puffed up BIG TIME in Kauai - I looked like I had elephant ankles. I rarely use salt when I am at home but we ate many meals that were highly salted on vacation and I was a puffy girl! I am working on getting de-fluffed right now - the excess H2O is flushed!
