Hi, izabelle. Here's some input to consider. It will answer part of your question, but part will remain to be accomodated by others.
I've been doing shakes only -- no other products (MF or otherwise). I, also, have strong tendencies to take a mile if I have an inch, so I wanted to make it as unchallenging mentally as possible.
On a work day, I take 2 caffeine-free diet cokes to work with me -- otherwise, like at home, I have no such soda. I also buy at least two large cups of decaf while I'm at work -- mostly, I try to keep myself full with these beverages. In the last week or two, I've been adding bouillion to the mix but I almost regret it because of the high sodium level that seems to be causing water retention that wasn't there before. I've also been chewing too much sugarfree gum -- I wouldn't recommend doing that. The sweetness is becoming a chronic lure and it really does upset the stomach to chew too much of it.
I'd suggest working with whatever number of shakes works best for you. For some people, five is on the low end. I almost always have more than five these days because I'm also exercising about 4 days a week and about 400 calories' worth per time. On those days, I seem hungry much of the time, and when I'm hungry, I have another shake. I'm not extremely rigid with myself because it seems I'm on a thin line about temptation lately and I'd rather have enough MF than go nuts and have other things. So, I can't tell you a precise thing to do, unfortunately. It's more a matter of setting a kind of emotional limit to stick to the shakes and draw the line with taking in other "goods", from my own style of doing this.
I'd truly recommend the simpleness of the shake-only. Seems like a harder strategy, but it's been tolerable and I really do like the shakes -- have become a powder-licker for the powder that sticks to the insides of the blender jar, etc!! Who would think??
So, good luck to you and I hope you find a pattern that's comfortable and that seems easiest.
