Full Fast or 5 and 1

Questions/Comments about Weight loss Products.

Postby Lisa Renee » July 13th, 2005, 12:01 am

This question is for Nancy:

Do you think people have a significant difference in weight loss between the 5 and 1 and the full fast? I had thought of doing the full fast, but since I did a full juice fast for 40 days before, I know how the hunger rolls in when you start adding solids back to your diet. I have always gone to one extreme to another and it's always been all or nothing with me. I thought that by doing the 5 and 1, I would be somewhat walking the middle of the road... Is there a significant difference in the 5 and 1 and the full fast? I would like to start out loosing at least an AVERAGE of 3-4 pounds a week. Being 370 pounds, that is very doable at first I feel... I realize it will slow down as I get closer to goal, but I would like to get this done within 2 years, so I want to be on the most effective weight loss choice.

Strawberry ~

All the Hopkins weight loss results are based on the 5/1 Program. Truly there is not a substantial difference in the weight loss rates between the two programs.

Avoid bars, have any other 5 MF products plus the L&G and you'll do great. If you weigh and measure your L&G and drink plenty of water, you'll melt away.

As you know, the complete program requires strict monitoring by a physician. I was so totally out of control with food I needed a separation. Often I suggest people do the complete for two weeks to get through the detox period and then do the 5 & 1. IMO, people who do the complete program need to be totally totally committed = no porking-out or you could put your gall bladder into an uproar. It is NOT worth the risk or the pain to be on the complete program for two months and then have a bummer day and take out your frustrations by hurling down a hurking hunk of prime rib or quaffing a quart of Ben & Jerry’s…

Here’s an old link (there are many others about gall bladder issues – use the search clicky) that may or may not be of help regarding gb:

Thanks for the reply. Should I avoid the bars because of the carbs or because of temptations? Also, I am seeing an ednocronoligst who will supervise me no matter which program I am on. Thanks.

Bars:

Yes and yes...

The bars are carbier - in order to form the soy protein into a solid form that is tasty, frutose is used as a binding agent. If you want maximum weight loss, have no bars or only every few days.

For some palates, the bars are a temptation and some of us have been known to scarf more than one bar per day...

Very active people - men who do physical labor and some women can get away with two bars a day and still consistently lose weight at a good rate - but that is rare. So...one bar a day for most people and for some of us, no bars or a bar every two or three days for maximum weight loss.

Bars GOOD :D =Bars BAD  . I love the bars but after my last box is gone I will not order anymore. They are too much of a temptation for me to have around. I even had the thought yesterday to just eat the whole box so they are gone. It was just a thought and I didn't do it. I have my boxes of bars in the back of the fridge to stay cold and to be out of sight. I really like them as they are portable and easy to carry in my purse when I'm running around, but I will have to find another way. I may order just a couple at a time and hide them somewhere until I really need one on the run. :drive:

Dear SableBaby ~

Thou has chosen wisely!

Only we know ourselves best. I have several clients that entrust their beloved bars to a kid, a wife or a husband to dole out one at a time on a daily basis.

I have one man that I have personally put on restriction - I will not allow him to order more than one box of Crunchy Lemon Bars at a time and no more than four boxes of bars per month.

When a person is on maintenance, most can have two per day but if a person is really serious about getting the lard out, then one per day or one every couple of days is the limit.

Maybe I shouldn't tell you this but the peanut butter, choc divine, and caramel nut are really good frozen...

Perhaps we ought to send the MakeMeThinner surveillance Team to your hoe to monitor your bar scarfage...you know, police sirens, emergency alarms wail, screeching whistles are emitted and air horns blast your eyebrows and arm hairs off and the lights flicker like strobes when the second bar wrapper is loosened...

Well, yeah....without teeth it does take a little longer to scarf those frozen bars and other foods, too - it's the secret to weight loss: no teeth!

True story here about a friend and avowed chocoholic...she had her jaw wired shut following surgery for TMJ. She was so desperate for choc that she broke a Hershey bar into teensy tinsy little pieces, forced it between her cheek and teeth and pushed it way way to the back of her jaw so it could melt and drip down her throat...of course this took a long time to get an entire Hershey bar down there but she did it!

Oh, yes! I USED to be a chocoholic, too. Now I prefer caramel...love that sugar-free DaVinci Caramel syrup in my Dutch Chocolate shake!

You are sure a blessing to me, Martha - can't wait to meet you sometime! I understand you might come to Seattle sometime - I am about two and a half to three hours from Seattle...

Martha ~

Can't wait - what time of the year? Flying will be a breeze when you are at your goal weight - there will be a lot of extra room in your suitcase for smaller clothes, you'll fit comfortably in the airplane seats and we'll have to hoot it up at Starbuck's - Triskets lives in the Seattle area, too. Whee!

NANCY--

Haven't the slightest idea of when but will let you know.. Depends on mom..and we are having our vows renewed in Gatlingburg on June 20th.. Never been to a STARBUCK'S in my life.. being from Louisiana and they drank the coffee with chickory I never learned to appreciate it at all.. So i thought it was a coffee shop and never ventured into one.. even when I was in Seattle I never went to one and they were everywhere.. I can't wait till then-- now I really have a goal to meet  and I love the thougth of having soo much room on the plane.. (imagine that me at goal  ) loving every minute of it..Martha
