frustrated

Postby DntCryLilEmoGrl » August 16th, 2006, 10:22 am

so yet again...after going down 5 lbs more after being stuck @ 190 for nearly 4 weeks, im stuck again... i know i shouldnt be getting so frustrated.. because im still losing...but i guess its just ... i wish the numbers were going down more...eh maybe its time to pull out the measuring tape again? just a little frustrated not seeing the 2-3 lbs i was losing before i got below 200.

just because i know it will be asked..

first mf meal -after working out @ 10-10:30 am (usually a bar)
2nd- noon
3rd- 2:30pm-3:pm
4- 5pm- L&G (usually 6-7 oz chicken or 7 oz tuna and 1 1/2 cups cooked greens)
5- 7pm
6-9:30-10pm

i drink around 64-93 oz of water a day and i usually have soy crisps either with my last meal or sometime at work

You shouldn't have a bar as your first medifast meal. Also, your first meal should be within one hour of waking up to help start up your metabolism...you didn't mention what time you get up, but if you work out first, it has to be close.

I would try to have a shake or something before working out.

Hang in there girl, I've hit more scale stalls than I care to admit. If you are sticking to the plan - the weight will go! Measuring tape is an excellent idea, also measuring Body Fat is a good indication of what is going on with your body. I feel your pain!!!!!!!!!!!

i second the no bar as a first meal...
another thing to remember is that you are extremely limited calories, so working out without eatinf first can cause a stall. your best bet is to eat 30-60 minutes before working out and then again about 30-60 after. if you are doing any kind of resistance work, this will also really help you build muscle.
i stall all the time, so i know it's annoying. if you eat before and after exercise, you may find that you need to take in an extra shake-- and that, too, may help you get off the plateau.

I agree that you should eat a supplement before you work out and possibly add an extra shake each day since you are exercising regularly. Eating too little will cause a stall.

Congrats on the exercise plan though, I think it will help keep you motivated and increase your metabolism!

I don't think you should work out without eating something first. At least drink a shake, then work out. You'll give your body some fuel to work with because it's going to be digesting that and converting it while you're working out. I mean.. you just spent somewhere between 6-8 hours at a minimum since you last ate. Your body probably needs that food. I've seen long arduous discussions on various fitness boards about whether you should eat or not eat before a morning workout. What I came to notice was that most people felt it better to eat before the workout. Most especially people who were restricting their calorie intake already.

ah see i was always told its better to not eat right before working out...guess ill just have to workout later in the mornings or something or just do it after work. but thanks for the suggestions. i was beginning to get so frustrated, i know i dont have much more to go..im nearly halfway, so i knew it would be going slow, just didnt think this slow. when i workout it isnt too strenous as far as weight training goes. cardio i break a good sweat but im not out of breath or anything when doing it. but ty for the suggestions ill definitely try them *hugs* *BIG BIG BIG HUGS*

That sounds fine.

Personally, I would have the shake before working out, by having some food in your system early, you allow your metabolism to start for the day...and you will work the calories off.

Doing cardio first thing, before eating, is best for burning body fat. But that's when you're NOT following a Very Low Calorie Diet, which Medifast is. The rules are much different under these circumstance.

I usually have oatmeal, wait half an hour or so to digest it a little, and THEN do my workout.

But didn't you also just post a day or two ago that you were on day 2 of total compliance?? It'll take a few days if you've been cheating. Especially if you've been cheating pretty regularly.

well it was just last week... i had cheese here and there a couple days... not a lot, not a big cheat...but i try and do the 1 week complete compliance if i see myself starting to detour .but yeah i was wondering if that was causing problems, but now im thinking exercising before eating may be a culprit...we shall see :D

Cheese is also usually high in sodium, so it could be water, too. I'd give it a week of total compliance and see what happens. My guess is you'll be fine.

Yup, what they all said!

Actually, I was gonna' comment on your having heard that working out before eating was the best thing, but Robin addressed that. She's right (of course!) about a different set of rules for working out while you're restricting your calories so much. Working out first thing, before you eat, is for when your breakfast is like a big ol' Lumberjack Slam from Denny's, LOL. That's prolly three or four days worth of calories for us now! Also, the standard recommendation is no bar for your first or last meal of the day.

Best of luck, and if I haven't already told you--congrats on being almost halfway to goal!! That's suh-weet!!
That calls for fireworks, lil' firecracker!!

changing it up

Postby LAwoman » August 16th, 2006, 7:38 pm

Hey DntCryLilEmoGrl,

I'd be curious also to see if your wt. loss increased weekly or every other week if you changed a few things.

1-As everyone mentioned, switch to a shake or oatmeal in the morning instead of a bar. (I've read not to eat bars as the first or last meal of the day)
2-Have your first MF meal soon after you get up in the morning
3-Try body resistance for toning instead of wt lifting just while you're in the wt loss phase (ie - pushups, situps, lunges, squats, yoga, pilates...)
4-Not sure if you already are, or even if this matters, but I try for 3, sometimes 4 shakes a day for my MF meals based on what I've read others do and my own experience.

I hope some of these ideas work and you're back in the constant wt. loss cycle.

Either way, you're doing a great job and know that if you stick to MF the pounds will keep coming off.

Keep it up!!!
