VW stands for Vision Wavefront.

Although the scale has refused to budge for the past week, I did manage to get to the 50# Club last Tuesday, so............... As I had promised myself once I lost 50, I've made the appointment to have my eyes lasiked (sp?)

They're going to use a Wavefront Laser and fix one of my eyes to see far and the other to see close <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_11_3.gif' border=0> thus eliminating the need for any glasses!

I've worn specs since the 6th grade...45 years ago! So I'm really looking forward to it. Yesterday, I went to the new Solstice Outlet at the Gilroy Outlet stores and purchased a snazzy non-prescription pair of Armani sunglasses to wear! <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_34.gif' border=0>

Ha! I am sooooooooo totally not the type to wear "Armani". <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_2_91.gif' border=0> but I couldn't resist, plus I got them on sale for 2/3 off the retail price! I took it as a "sign"... <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_12.gif' border=0>

At any rate, I'll be off the board for most of the weekend. Doctor says to take it easy on the old peepers. Friday no TV, books, computer...just lay in the dark and pretend I'm a mushroom! <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_3_3.gif' border=0>

Keep kind thoughts for me on Friday, while I"m about 99% happy and thrilled to be doing this...there is that 1% inside of me that's a scared little kid... <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_7.gif' border=0>

Congratulations on a big step. I would love to have lasik tho I think what your talking about With the far and close..would sorta freak me out. My brother had the regular lasik about 5 years ago..He was legally blind and he is still going strong. I think once I reach goal...or 100 pounds gone(whichever strikes my fancy) I might make an appt and see what it would cost.

Take your doc's advice and take it easy and get ready to see life through brand new eyes!

Good luck, Carmel. I'm sure you'll be fine, but I know how scary it can be. Way back when, before there WAS Lasix, I had a radial keratotomy to fix my vision - it was pre-laser, so they used a knife. But it's GREAT to see like a normal person.

That's so exciting. Good for you! I know you'll be thrilled with the results.

I had a similar procedure done 10 years ago, and I had to spend 3 days in the dark, so I know exactly how it feels, being bored and laying there. I suggest you invest in a good audio book or two to help pass the time. Oh, and don't pick the murder mystery when you have to keep the lights off. Just speaking from experience there.

Good luck - you are going to LOVE IT!!! I had it done a couple of years ago and although I need to go back in next month for a readjustment (I had an incident the first night where I tore the lens on one of my eyes because I feel asleep and was startled awake - my eyes needed the drops so they were dry. Bang! Wake up suddenly! Dry eyes! Lifted lens! ) Anyway, it caused an astigmatism and I had to wait 2 years for my vision to settle out before getting it fixed.

Even after all that, I still recommend having Lasik done! I was the exception and I know better now. I have had several friends do it after me and they had no problems whatsoever. You will do fine. I hope I didn't scare you with my story. Even what I went through wasn't a bad thing at all - no pain whatsoever...more of a nusance than anything.

Vicky - 50 isn't too old but I am afraid that you will have to still use reading glasses. I am 47 and they told me that most likely I would need a low prescriiption for reading - natural age progression I guess. But I felt it was so worth it. I can wake up now and see the clock across the room, I can go swimming and see around me, I can play and sweat without glasses slipping off my nose or contacts getting gritty. So I have to wear glasses when I read - big deal. I bought some really cool tiny glasses in wild patterns at the Christmas Tree Shop for $2 and they work great for reading....and they look cool

Yay, Carmel, what an awesome gift to yourself! I am thrilled for you, and totally jealous too!

I wear contacts everyday which is not a big deal, but going to the beach or going swimming, that's when it becomes a nuisance.

We all can't wait to hear how it goes, and we're wishing you quick healing time and 20/20 vision!
