I think that the hardest part for me will be cooking food for everyone else and not tasting it. I'm trying to plan before my food gets here so......... those of you in the same shoes give me some tips please.

Welcome missykaylo, and I have a wife and a 21 month old and a boy on the way in a month, but basically my wife eats the same as me for dinner, and if she wants pasta or something else like that then we cook a little of that with it. Look in the Lean Cuisine thread and there may be some recipes in there that even your family may like!! I don't know if that helps or not, but it works in our household! 8)

Hi K, I am a single parent of a 9 yo boy and the food I make for him is totally different and I don't like his taste in food so it makes it easier.

What I'm trying to say is make foods they like but you don't like, if that makes sense and make a bigger batch each time you cook something and then freeze it and have different dinners in the freezer you can pull out and heat up to minimize your exposure to that food.

Then get out of the kitchen fast...if I have cakes or cookies I freeze them and if he wants one I let him take it out and defrost it.

I have a son and a husband that I cook dinner for every night. I don't taste, I cook. If it needs something added they can do it themselves when they are eating it. Truly you don't have to taste it, you have probably been cooking it long enough to know just what it needs.

What I do is make a bunch of meals ahead of time. And then freeze them. The great thing it is only enough for the 2 of them. Also I said this a million times GUM I love it. <img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_12_10.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D36%252F36_12_10/image.gif">

I've found a little trouble with making sure foods are 'hot' enough. I've tried the finger test (not ideal) and having someone come into the kitchen to taste the food for me (not always ideal for them). Once I did put some of the food in question in my mouth (to check for temp) and then spit it back out (not ideal either). But those few times just haven't been that big of a deal. I just cook things so that the noodles look done, the food is appearing hot enough and hope they'll not complain if something isn't quite right. ;)

I do make my husband's lunch each morning, putting chips, cookies, nuts and other things into baggies for him. It hasn't tempted me one bit. I know that I want to lose this weight, get to goal and stay compliant with MF, much more than I'd like a nibble of whatever I'm bagging up. Having a cold and stuffed up nose (unable to smell these foods) has been a bonus also.

You can get through this! OH! I also chewed a piece of gum while making dinner, when I first began doing MF, that may help you also. Chewing gum gave me time to remember not to mindlessly put something in my mouth while cooking or preparing foods.

I have pretty much just told my family that we will all be having a L & G meal each night, and then I may add a side dish for them that includes pasta or potatoes or something like that. This has worked out well. They understand what I am doing and are very supportive of me. Besides it doesn't hurt them to eat a little healthier also. ;)

I am perhaps a selfish cow but I have not cooked anything for my husband since starting Medifast 114 days ago. I like to taste when I cook and I enjoy the smells and I am just not ready for it. I have shown him in nearly 5 years of marriage how to cook his favorites so he is perfectly okay with it. I order his food off Peapod so I know he can have balanced meals. He actually helps me by throwing together beautiful organic salads for me to have with my L&G. He is just so happy I am not the crazy drunk I was before he thinks it is a small price to pay.

"WELCOME" Missy...glad you decided to join our little family.
Well, i never did cook for my husband even before MM, because he prefers to cook for himself. His food is very bland...YUCK!...he doesn't like to much seasoning on things. I LOVE garlic...he hates garlic..i LOVE onions...he hates onions...get the picture..lol!...so that suits me just fine...very finicky food person.

Good luck with this journey Missy...it is well worth it in the end:+))))

Love,
Chynna

Cooking

Postby JonnaD » March 15th, 2007, 8:06 pm

Hi, Missy.

I'm ususally out several evenings during the week for meetings and on those nights my husband has his pizza, pork chop or whatever he's in the mood for. When I cook the L&G, he's happy with that, just wants a little extra.

I haven't been on the plan long either, but it's one thing everyone here (my daughter and two grand children are here now) agrees with. Mom needs to lose the weight. We had a bit of a scare with my blood pressure last fall, took several months to regulate. Hopefully they won't get bored with cooperating before I've met goal.
