First day!!!!

Postby Guest » January 10th, 2006, 1:05 pm

Hello my name is Jennifer and today is my first day on the shake meal replacement program. I must say its been a really tough morning, I usually snack on alot of junk food, but have been doing good. Any suggestions?

Welcom Jennifer!

The first 3 days are the hardest. After that it DOES get easier if you stick with the program. Drink lots of water, try it hot, cold, with a little bit of sugar free flavoring. The water will help with the hunger feelings on top of all the other benifits. Stick to your schedual of eatting every 2 to 3 hours and that should help as well. Once you get past the worst 3 days it gets so much easier. Don't let this first day discurage you.

Postby somethingnew » January 10th, 2006, 1:41 pm

Thank you so much, I passed my first temptation, a judge of mine asked that I go to lunch and I went and did not even think twice about getting any food, it was hard though, instead I had a diet coke.

First off welcome. the first few days to week are the hardest. You have cravings, people may not support you, change in routine etc. :wallwall: Once you get into a pattern and find your way of doing things it DOES GET BETTER. Once your body adjusts and starts fat burning (ketosis) your hunger will subside. One thing I stock up in is zero calorie popsickles and when I am having the munchies I eat some of them, it keeps my mouth busy and doesnt hurt me. Celery is also good. Drink lots of water also! :water: This forum is great, I wish I had this in my earlier loss maybe I would be in maintainance now. Keep posting and lean on us we are all real people in the same struggles. Good luck Ron

Hi!! I can tell you, Im on my third day and feeling like I was going to die if I didnt eat has subsided.

I made my chili today for lunch, and actually got compliments on how good it smelled here at the office. I love the chili loaded up with spices!!

I also cannot get enough of the chicken noodle soup. I just can't rave enough about it. I actually look forward to the foods now.

I have a serious food addiction that Ive come face to face with after I have lost and regained the same 65 pounds for years.

Medifast is going to be my tool to learning what its all about and how to live with it. There are lots of us here on this journey with you!!! Ive been reading thru here and feel like I have a brand new Medifast family!!!
Food is fuel. Nothing more.

My first day was a stretch too. It was the thought of food but not hunger!
Lots of stuff to try: chewing gum, celery, this web site, water, and my very favorite a nice long, warm bath. Trouble always disapear in the tub.

Always thinking of how killer you'll be when you reach your goal. I've been doing the 5/1 for 5 days now and the idea of food doesn't get to me so badly. (Of course I'm all wrinkley from all those baths) Your cravings are only temporary, honest I'm a Mom and I know these things.

Good luck

something to think about. most of us dont really feel hunger we think it is but we eat more often than needed  and we are never really feeling true hunger, most of the time it is cravings that seem like hunger?

cravings hunger whats the difference you may ask

true hunger is the bodies signal a "need" for fuel
cravings are started in the mind many times stimulated by a sight or smell but are strong because they are connected to our pleasure sensors. We love food it comforts us etc. We feel joy when we eat not much different than any other addiction.

The trick is to hear hunger and react to the need and refocus the cravings.

Because we are on such low calories it is important to hear the hunger before it triggers cravings.
point is space your meals out every 3 hous and stay away from triggers
Anywho this is how I see things :nana:

First Day

Hi Jennifer,
You've gotten lots of great ideas. As for me I drink hot tea with splenda -- fills up the empty space. (Oh and I've been know to head off for the tub toooo -- lucky Nancy :D has a great new hot tub at her house soooo she can soak in style as for me it's off to the bathroom) There's more good news for you. Soy is a natural appetite suppressant soooo soon you won't be as hungry. You did very well today.

Welcome! I'm on day 2 myself. I can totally relate to what you're feeling. Yesterday I would have bet that my stomach was going to eat me alive. But I'm still here today, and today was easier than yesterday. So it DOES get better!!
}r

Every time those hunger pains hit I look at my before picture. That's pretty much all it takes to keep me motivated. lol I have them posted on my fridge and my computer so I am constantly reminded that I don't want to be that girl anymore.

Hope that helps. You CAN do this!!!

Today was Day 4 for me and I had hunger pangs for the 1st time this afternoon. I had a cup of hot tea, then water and then a Diet Coke. :D I was finally full and spent lots of time running up and down the stairs at work to the bathroom. :guzzle: I guess that's a perk!!

Our wedding invitations arrived and I stuck one on the fridge for a reminder too!!

It has gotten easier! Hang in there everyone. WE can do this!

Thank you all for the suggestions, today is my second day and I am doing better with the exception of a slight headache.

I have been drinking plenty of water and also chewing a lot of gum, if it gets really bad I take a handful of peanuts and I'm better.

what motivated me the most was the 2 pounds I had lost the first day!!!

Peanuts! I'm preaty sure they are not on the snack list.

The snacks I know of are:

3 stalks celery
2 pickles
1 cup sugar free jellow
the fast soups or boulion
medifast crackers
some people use a cucumber instead of the pickles
sugar free popcicles

I'm sure I missed some, but those are the ones I rely on when the water isn't cutting it.

Good for you though for not reaching for quicky fast food or the candy machine!

keep with it, it does get easier.

Im on day 4....my cravings and feelings of nausea have passed, now Im on the leg cramp stage...LOL... :hammerhead:

I have yet to be hungry today, so hungry I can't stand it. I start to feel the urge of natural hungr, and I know its time to hit the microwave.

Also - I found, when you eat your meals...drink a good amount of water with it, that will help to fill you up, and take your time eating.

One thing, and Nancy can confirm for us...I don't think we are supposed to eat anything off of Medifast during this time? (except pickles, tea, celery etc etc). Are nuts on our plan?

I haven't eaten nuts in ages, but the carb count and fat and calories are enough to send me running the other direction!

Eander,

Drink a fast soup for the leg cramps. They have potasium in them that will help releave leg cramping. I personally love the tomato fast soup, a little bit of ms dash spicy and couple drops of worshesher sauce and it is a yummy warm treat.
