some one doesnt want me to have fun with my new toys!

my medifast can today and i am so very excited and cant wait to get started (i'm even having a shake tonight to taste!).

But my live-in boyfriend thinks this is a gimmick and is well unimpressed to say the least

well he can be impressed later at a slimmer me!

soooo what makes me wonder is what do people say when they see you drinking a shake? eating a bar? etc w/ medifast on it?

its funny in a sad way that its "ok" to eat a powerbar loaded with cal's, fat grams and carbs - but if you eat a medifast one (way more healthy!) it must be a gimmick! :x

maybe i'm just happy and sad at the same time, my poor kitty is having to say at the vet today for testing, they think its a virus infection or maybe even feline leuk.

i just want my kitty back! i just adopted her in feb! she was born oct 2005, shes not even a year old yet!

i'll keep everyone posted!

What to Say

Postby alohacate » July 12th, 2006, 3:30 pm

I've had numerous people ask me "whats that" (even though every attempt was made to be covert). I've just given them a straight answer "I'm doing something about my weight". 100% of my friends, co-workers and family have been supportive. I'm sure others have had to deal with curiosity&MF and will post their strategies!

Hi

Postby dede4wd » July 12th, 2006, 3:39 pm

Well, this "gimmick" has taken nearly 70 lbs off me in 4 months & 1 week!

When people see me eating my MF meals, I just tell them I am on a soy-based doctor monitored program to do something about my weight and get myself healthy. If they want to know more, I tell them, but that usually ends it!

I hope your kitty feels better and gets HOME to you soon!

I had the exact same fears about going public. 99% of them were completely unfounded. Just put it out there. Most people will be supportive and polite about it. Some may judge but here's the rub: they're the one's already judging you for being overweight and believing you always will be. Trust me don't even try to hide it just do the plan. When the pounds start dropping everyone will want to know what your doing anyways.

Now as for that boyfriend. If he's not supporting you he's only undermining your efforts. Not nice :x Explain to him that you need his support. If he can't promise that............

Funny you should ask about what to say when ppl see you eating/drinking ur supplements. This weekend while i was on vacation and on the run, i that happen to me twice. Once i was having a shake and my friend asked what it was and I told him it was a protein shake. All of my gym rat friends are into protein shakes and don't think twice about it.

then later in the weekend another friend saw my choco mint bar in my purse and was like, "hey, ur losing all that weight, is that a candy bar i see in ur purse?" and my response was "no silly, that's my protein bar".

i wasn't lying in either case and i never get any questions with those answers. the soup, pudding, and oatmeal...well, those are pretty straight forward and i never get too much inquiry on those. when asked, i tell ppl they are lower in fat and carbs. once again, more truth...

You know, Medifast needs to put a label on their Diabetic Choco crunch bars, cause hubby "accused" me the other day when we were out of eating a "candy" bar cause there was no Medifast label on the $%&# bar package! :x
I had to show him when we got home the choco bars are in plain silver wrapping - no label. :x The PB bars have a label  .

Ok, enough venting... sorry to hear about your unsupportive bf, and I'll say a prayer for your kitty. Just know there is A LOT of support on this board and if you need a pick me up or a good laugh, you will find it here. Good luck with your weight loss. I'm sure when you start looking hot, he will be "trainable", lol

Hugs,

Keturah

I told my two closest friends about it and havent met much resistance. Tom (DH) is totally fine with it and supportive. I am really worried about what happens when September rolls around and I have to go public again. I am hoping I will have lost a noticeable amount by then so people will think that it isnt a gimmick.

I usually don't care what people think about what I am eating or drinking. I have had people ask and I tell them exactlly what it is...they ask if it taste good and I tell them. Now that they see it does work they all want more info on it.

Just stick with it and he will come around. Medifast has taken 90 pounds off of me in 6 months so people can say what they want but I am walking proof that this stuff is for real

Most of the time I get the comments of how great things smell. My oatmeals, soups etc...

Then I tell them that it's just my food and how great it tastes...then we normally go further or they just don't want to listen anymore :):)

The funny part is the people on the strick diets are coming over asking what smells so good and I tell them my Medifast oatmeal or soup etc and tell them that I'm loosing weight as I'm eating it :)

I think some people are a bit skeptical because Medifast isnt exactly a "household" name yet. Like Powerbar, or slim fast. But to be completely honest, in my experiences, slim fast just gives people false hope. I had never heard of medifast before this past February. I walked into work, and saw one of my clients that I hadnt seen in a long time....at least I "thought it was her". I had to ask if it was really her. She was tickled to death that I almost did not recognize her, she thought it was so funny. I told her she had really lost a lot of weight, and she HAD TO tell me how she did it. I am so thankful that she did. It has changed my life in so many ways. This stuff works, if you do what you are supposed to do, by drinking the 64 oz. of water, having all your sipplements, and dont cheat. It will work like nothing else youve ever tried. I promise!

I tell 'em it's a program tested and used by Johns Hopkins, and recommended to me by three different doctors. That pretty much silences any critics - not that I hear from many critics now that I've lost most of my weight.

I don't care who knows. I share the wealth of the program with others daily. I take my shakes with my, or my bar, and let people know that I am doing something about my formerly 400+lbs body. Most are supportive some are not.

As an aside, your BF will come around when he see results. I too thought it was a gimick when Joelie found the magazine ad. I told her I would support her though and I did. Deep down, I wanted to try but didn't want to spend the money if I wasn't going to like the food. I tried everything of hers for her first week, then promptly placed my order. In 13 weeks I lost 75 lbs and I am still going strong!

Keep your chin up and work hard at it. You will do great and the results will show!

Sometimes you run across negative people. But usually those people aren't happy with themselves, or don't have the motivation that you have. With the boyfriend, he may just be scared that if you get thin and sexy, someone elses will want you! Keep your chin up. I have a so-called friend at work that always has something negative to say about my diet or weight. The funny thing??? She's been on WW for the 4 years that I've been working with her, and she's getting BIGGER! :roflmao: Stick to it........this isn't a gimmick........if it were, there wouldn't be so many successful people here pumping you up!! We don't get a check from MF.......our reward for supporting you is our own weightloss!! Have fun!
