I'm feeling discouraged

Postby lise » April 12th, 2006, 9:30 pm

I've been on the plan for a month. I've never cheated, was compliant for everything. However, I'm not seeing the inches comes of (I still have to buy a scale, I had other bills to pay). Apart from losing weight from my face (it was pretty puffy before), I really haven't seen much of a change.

I tried a few outfits tonight from my closet and although 1 size 14 pants just about fit me (they were always like that though), the skirt was a no way, the jeans even worse. My face has yet to clear up. I guess my entire self esteem is gone out the window. I bought products for the month and I hope I start seeing results because right now, I'm feeling really discouraged. I want the wieght off now and despite following everything, this doesn't seem to help.

I'm going to see my boyfriend in St.Kitts and it's going to be very difficult for me to feel desirable when I think I look like a beach whale. I know he loves me but I often have to ask him how he could since I'm so big.

Anyone have days like this?

Lise, I know it can get discouraging. On Monday I felt totally desperate. We have to stick with it. I would love to lose weight in my face you probably look great. You are probably doing better than you think, wihtout a scale it is hard to tell. It will take awhile for us to really notice are clothes, the main thing is not to quit, we need to be patient. Everyone loses weight so differently, In lot of different places. Hang in there, I know it is so hard we want instant results. Know that you are not alone, we are all in this together.

Continuity is the key! Don't let your emotions or visual stimuli dictate what you know is physiologically happening in your body. If you're doing the plan 100% with no cheats then you absolutely WILL lose. It may not be fast and it may not be consistent from week to week but the fat will come off.

Keep your chin up cuz you're doing great!

I know it is hard but don't be discouraged. It took me quite a while to see a difference in my clothing. OK this is a new one here but I really think you need to buy a scale. You really don't need to spend too much money on one but I think that it might be a good motivator for you. Remember if you get one don't weigh daily especially when you are emotional but I believe that if you weigh weekly you will be pleased.

As a side note....You say you feel like a beached whale and can get into a size 14???? Honey I will be doing backflips when my butt can get into a 14

Hang in there Lise! I have days like these too when it seems like this journey is taking forever.....

I hit the 30 lb slump a few weeks ago and have seen very little movement in my scale. I'm trying to take comfort in the fact that every day I stick with Medifast is another day towards becoming healthly and winning my war on fat.

Sometimes it's hard to see the gradual changes in ourselves, but I have no doubt that it you order your next month of supplies and stick to the plan your boyfriend will be amazed when he sees you in St. Kitts.

Hang in there and I know you'll be beaming with pride when you meet your fella in the islands!

Don't get discouraged Lise... without a scale it's nearly impossible to tell if I'm losing weight. My first few weeks in the lbs were dropping like crazy, but I didn't feel any different and when I looked in the mirror I definitely didn't notice a change and asking my husband wasn't much help at all. I'm sure you're losing weight. The most noticeble place I lost weight was my belly...now I'm losingit from my extremities in...my legs are thinner, my arms are thinner, my face thinner, but my waist is the same as it was 3 weeks ago.

Don't give up. If you stay on plan it will come off. I just know it. Your boyfriend is going to see you and notice that you're different if he hasn't seen you in a while. Get yourself a tape measure if you can't afford a scale. They're only a couple dollars in Walmart in the sewing section. The tape measure is my best friend.

When you see yourself every day in the mirror, it's harder to notice the gradual changes. But take heart - there ARE changes!! I've no doubt your boyfriend will be able to notice. About a month into the program, my husband started rubbing my back, and all of a sudden he exclaimed, "Shoulders! I can feel your shoulders again!" It was pretty funny, but also very motivating.

Don't be discouraged, the plan is working. It would be a good idea to get a scale, just so you have an objective way of tracking your progress (let's face it; when we look at ourselves, we are not exactly objective!). The scale is not fool-proof, and will be affected by many other factors (TOM, water retention, a periodic plateau for no good reason), but at least you'll see the overall downward trend.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks everyone,

I went to look at scales tonight and didn't buy one but they all varied by 12 pounds.

I think I am 248 since my clothes are fitting a bit better. I went to look at clothes at Cotton Ginny Plus tonight and know that XL, L and Medium are way too big in pants for me in the sugar cotton style. They were falling off me!

The sales lady was not that nice; I asked for help and yet she didn't. I walked out. I will go to another location and see how it goes there.

I think I'm on track and by the time I leave for St. Kitts, I will look a lot better and a dramatic change will be evident.

FORMOMMY ... I'm in the same boat as you. I can tell a huge difference in my weight loss and my clothes are hanging in the most unflattering way but it was only yesterday, when my husband hugged me did he really notice. What's funny is we hug each other all the time but yesterday was the defining moment for him when he realized the plan was working.

Lise ... How are you doing? Okay?

I spoke to my boyfriend last night and he told me not to worry; he loves me and knows that I get discouraged a lot by people around me about my weight. He told me to stop looking at the negative things in the mirror and start seeing what he sees, which is a beautiful woman. He told me that my heart is pure and soon my body will reflect that but in his eyes, I will always be beautiful, no matter what the scale or others or clothing say.

I haven't cheated yet on the plan, still very compliant and have set a mini goal to reach 225 by the time I go to St.Kitts in 34 days. I think I will meet that goal. I also need to find a distributor in the Carribean for Medifast as I think it will be very expensive for my parents to keep sending me my products from Canada.

Another thing that has gotten me down is my job. I am an awesome receptionist/secretary. I have been working for the past 2 months at a religious organization and have made newsletters and publications and have taught the nuns how to create mail merges. I have had nothing but compliments on my job by the community and the board of directors and associates. However, one of my biggest concerns is that I did ask for a leave of absence which was granted but lately, my boss has been threatening me with my job by telling me that they are not sure if they will keep my job open after next month; or if they will extend my probation (which ends a day before I leave) or make me permanent, or get rid of me. I have come home crying because it seems that my boss does not appreciate me. I explained to her that if my leave was going to cause me losing my job, I would withdraw the request and go to St.Kitts on my alloted vacation time. However, she told me that it wasn't an issue. This has been very stressing on me, since I plan to sponsor my boyfriend to Canada to be with me (he's Cuban) but I need to show I have a job. I have never been reprimanded by my boss but dealing with that situation and trying to lose weight is difficult.

I will continue to follow the plan as I have been doing. I know that if I lose my job that it won't because of the quality of my work.

Thanks for listening.

That boyfriend of yours sounds like a keeper

I am sorry about your job and the stress you are under from it. Maybe you need to just sit down and talk to someone above your boss to make sure that everything is fine and that you WILL have a job when you get back. If you don't get anywhere with your boss, you need to go higher. But only you know what your situation is and how to handle it; and you WILL handle it I am sure. Try not to stress out too much about it, get your facts together and try and get to the bottom of it.

Sending you prayers and hugs,
