Uh...

This was not what I intended when I posted the ORIGINAL post. I was looking for help with coming up with lean and green meals to cook for me and family...

Watch out for those tomatos Jackie!!

As far as favorite lean/green recipes, I find that on the occasions that I am wanting the lean/grean meal I prefer blackened chicken with steamed asparagus, or filet mignon and steamed broccoli.

One of my favorites as well is jerk chicken or pork tenderloin on a salad of baby spinach. the pork tenderloin is very convenient, if bought unseasoned and sliced into proper portions. I then rub a jamaican jerk rub ALL over it and freeze them in individual portions to be taken out and cooked for myself when I serve the family something not so suitable.

the asian wraps sound wonderful in a great big lettuce leaf too.

I find enlightening all these wonderful choices we are able to come up with that set uson the right path for when we are back to cooking full time. I have found that I truly TASTE food for its good qualities for the first time nowadays.

Happy cookin and shakin!!
Peace!

Whoo, Boy!

I am not wanting anyone to leave the Forum...don't even think about it!

My comments are meant to clarify what foods (Medifast foods and "real live regular foods") are recommended for the Medifast Five and One (AKA The Modified Plan) and the Complete Fast. Many people take a peek at the Forum occasionally and only read bits and pieces here and there and it is important to me that people understand what is permitted for each of the two plans aforementioned.

I am not the :x Food Police but I am experienced and trained in using Medifast.

People often DO make their own modifications and may have great weight loss results with their minor modifications and stick within their own plan and reach their goal.

Others, who may be like me, are/were so out of control with food that they must have a specific plan, be told exactly what is allowed and what is forbidden and then do it just that way in order to get healthy and to reach their goal weight.

Again, I am writing from the perspective of answering an inquiry to the best of my ability and giving a reasonable explanation.

There is a lot of controversy regarding carbs. All carbs are not bad. We must have some.

Some people may consume more carbs than others and not have blood sugar surges and weight gain.

Medifast is a balanced program - balanced protein and carbs - and it provides the body with all the macro nutrients it needs, sustains muscle tissue and burns the stored fat.

Increasing the level of consumed carbs may adversely affect the weight loss of some folks and also place some into a hunger state - yikes! I hate the catatonic state and lemme tell ya, I hate the Hunger State even more!

Let's have a group hug and move on to a new topic, eh? :stroll:

I'm all for Nancy's suggestion for a group hug - but I have to 'weigh' in with an opinion.

Many of us here are fighting EVERY day to stay on this program. Some of us cannot modify this plan and succeed. Some can. My main concern would be that misinformation is disseminated and people unfamiliar with this diet start off thinking they can do a carb count thing and still lose weight. Or that those of us adhering to the program get the idea to start messing with our programs because a tortilla sounds good. For many of us this is deadly serious. Diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, etc are waiting just around the corner. I, as many here, have worked too hard to let something derail me now. And all too often a bite here and a bite there turn into defeat. And a little cheese on our MF chili turns into a piece of garlic toast with our chili, turns into etc etc etc.

Technically Echo's infamous tortilla is NOT a part of the Medifast plan - and should not be labeled as a 'lean and green' meal, for anyone's purposes OTHER than Echo's. As long as that disclaimer is made, then fine, she's got a right to follow this plan any way she sees fit. Again, my main issue with this topic is that other people get confused and think that is a lean/green meal.

In my humble opinion, and from my experience of the last several months, Mike's only intention was to make it clear that what Echo proposed was not a sanctioned MF meal. He was even very careful to say he wasn't trying to step on toes. I see no inference that anyone be booted out of the place. Mike is a very enthusiastic, steadfast proponent of Medifast. Who the hell wouldn't be after they lost 100 pounds and gained a whole new life. His opinion is just that, an opinion. Though he CAN back up that opinion with a couple before and after pics. From what I've seen, Mike's sole reason for still hanging around here is to celebrate his achievement and help other people do what he did. Mike frequently serves as the reality check of this board, and that includes making sure people know what's part of the plan and what isn't.

Let's not mistake anyone's intentions here as anything other than supportive, and let's also not let a misuderstanding be blown out of proportion. Every once in awhile a topic runs amuck like this - and we all need to step back, remind ourselves of the limitations of communicating over this board, chalk it up to misinterpretation, forget about it and carry on.

I personally find the talk of food while on a liquid diet unnerving to say the least. I have in the four weeks(today starts my 5th..) that I have been doing Medifast not stepped outside the bounds of shake, bars, soups, pickles because I am not interested in "other foods" right now. At least not until I reach the maintenance phase. This, combined with the fact that I am sick and tired of my weight issue and intend to fix this once and for all ON THIS program.

I chose Medifast because of the tight structure around it, I abide by if its not listed you do not get to have it. I do use the lean/green some weekends and days when my strength in waning. For those times I limit myself to salads (no dressing) and grilled or curried (no oil) chicken or fish.

Having said this, it is to our disadvantage that the written word in a forum such as this does not always go over with the original intent, especially on those days when we all bring our emotions here looking for comfort. This combined with "new" members who are not familiar with the tough talk of the "old" successful members is something to consider. Its always the goal in a team environment and indeed life to be gentle and tender-hearted with each other. In the same vain as "do unto others..." or in our case "write unto others..." Both Echo and Mike postings have inspired me to keep going and for that I am ever grateful.

Hi Ria,

I think you're absolutely right!

I remember when I first started posting ...... I wanted to say something about a particular food - and I worried about saying it - like if I said 'cheeseburger', somebody would read it, go of the deep end and run out for a whopper. My very first day on MF, I was STRUGGLING through the day - crazy struggling - didn't know how I was gonna make it. I turned on the TV, and there was a KFC ad. Now Ria, I DO NOT EVEN LIKE KFC, but for the rest of the night it was all I could think about. And I wanted to tell someone, but was afraid to mention food specifically.

It is daunting and scary at first, but I think as we get some MF time under our belt it does get easier. Heck, there are times now when there's food all around me and I don't even think about it. And the reality is that we have to learn to deal with the issue, cause it ain't gonna go away. Food is always going to be around us, talked about, etc etc. And this board is therapy. I can come here and say pretty much anything and get help with it, or just get it off my chest. Not that I'm anywhere near where I want to be, but being able to communicate about it openly has helped me overcome some of the power food has over me. And that's what this is all about.

You go girl, you've got a date with that scale next Thursday, and it's gonna be a good one!

I am going to hopefully bring this match to a halt. First and foremost, I want to apologize if I offended ANYONE. This was not my intent, nor my goal. If anyone was offended by any remark I said, I personally apologize.

Secondly, I will not apologize for my beliefs in the program, and my diligence in the way I perceive it. Everyone is different. I (this is Mike) chose the FULL FAST. To me this meant no food touched my tongue period! (with a slip here and there - every slip was a deliberate choice) There are those that choose the modified version. Anyway YOU chose to do the Medifast program is fine, and this is 100% your choice. I will never disagree with anyone for their method of choice. I will chime in when I suspect something (might) not allowed on Medifast. I am no God, and I make errors, this is why I will always solicit Nancy, or Tim’s tutelage about something in question. I fear, as Carrie and Marseilles said, that someone new to the program might read something, and think it is allowed. Again, if any of you want to add or delete from YOUR program, it is your choice.

My goal, as Carrie said is 2 fold. First is to help others with what I have learned during my 289 days on Medifast. Second is to share a little of my cheer regarding the feeling I have about weight loss.

Those of you that have been around awhile know I speak, holding nothing back. I tell it like I feel. This is my choice of free speech. There is nothing I detest more than someone hiding something from me, and me finding about it later. I speak directly and directly about Medifast, and what I have learned from the heart. Some call it tough love, fine by me. I have no hidden agenda, and am not against the full fast, the modified version, or your own version, IF IT WORKS FOR YOU.

There was a comment made:

I do not feel that people who choose the 5:1 plan receive the same support as those who choose full fast

This I disagree with. I don’t believe there is any subject that is not covered in depth, or at least answered in some detail. I believe whatever choice(s) you make, are exactly that; YOU’RE choice. My choice was the Full fast. There are many that choose the full fast, and those that chose the 5:1, or modified version. Either way, I think these are supported.

This is a support board, and sometimes emotions come into play. Hey, dieting SUCKS, I know first hand. We all need to remember that we are here (and this was already said more than once) for support, and to learn.

I can't believe this little "spat" is going on. I'm active in another liquid diet board and the same thing just happened ! Someone posted they were going to cheat and have a hamburger and evryone jumped all over her, saying some pretty mean things were said and a lot of feelings were hurt.

I don't want anyone to leave this board. We are all here for a reason. So let's just kiss and makeup and focus on what is really important: support.

Trish - I think we pretty much had kissed and made up and moved on - this issue is laden with STRONG emotions and sometimes this happens - but we're over it and on to bigger and better topics.

It's a new day!
