Fat Free Sour Cream?

Postby ascicles » May 25th, 2006, 3:07 pm

Sorry for the numerous questions about accepted foods, but I'm trying to create some new meals (since I'm getting a little tired of the same thing every night).

Is fat free sour cream allowed? I checked it's info on nutriondata's website, and it looks fairly innocent...

Suggested Serving - 1oz.
Total Fat - 0g
Saturated Fat - 0g
Trans Fat - 0g
Cholesterol - 3mg
Sodium - 40mg
Total Carbs - 4g
Dietary Fiber - 0g
Protein - 1g

So, I guess my question is...is this legal? It doesn't seem any worse than most ketchups or bbq sauces (which are allowed).

My grandmother was from Hungary, and some of her recipes include sour cream. A few of them would work on this plan, as long as I can include that one ingredient.

don't know the answer but I have read of several medifast chili recipes where people add in one tablespoon of fat free sour cream.

My only concern would really be quantity - it can get fairly caloric pretty quickly. Doubt a tablespoon or so would hurt though . . .

It used to be on the list of acceptable extras, but I believe it's been removed. I don't know why.

And hey, one of my grandmas was from Hungary, too (along with my grandfather). I'm not much for the food, though (the other was from Greece/Turkey, and I much prefer the food on THAT side of the family!!).

I think I'm going to try a tablespoon this weekend with my meal and see how my body reacts.

I have used sour cream and done fine. I just use it very moderately. Like, when I did the mashed cauliflower, I put a dab of sc in it, as that is how I make mashed potatoes. I used the butter buds, sc, whipped it up like potatoes, and voilla!! Really good. My kids didn't even know the diference. The only reason my husband knew was because he baught the cauliflower! I have also made taco salad and used salsa and sour cream in place of salad dressing. I buy the land o lake fat free sour cream. It is really good. So is the daisy brand.

Oh man! That was the best lean and green I've had yet...and I think it's legal.

5oz os chicken (pre-cook..probably 4oz after cooking) - 125 calories (give or take a few), 0 carbs
1/3 cup fat free cottage cheese - 75 calories, 5 carbs
2 tbsp sour cream - 25 calories, 4 carbs
1 1/2 cups mushrooms - ???

I know it sounds gross, but it is very similar to a Hungarian recipe that my grandmother made. Her version had noodles and used bacon instead of chicken. Also, it didn't have mushrooms.

I guess it isn't THAT similar. Regardless, it's similar enough to give me a taste of one of my favorite meals. I hope that this is an acceptable meal!

Did you just cook the chicken and then mix it up with the cottage cheese and sc and mushrooms, or did you cook it more after it was all mixed up? Tell me what you did with the chicken and how the whole meal fell together.

I just grilled the chicken and cut it up into little pieces. Then, I mixed everything together. I didn't cook the sour cream or cottage cheese at all. I just sauteed the mushrooms a bit in butter pam.

The sour cream and cottage cheese should warm up because of the food...but you can always toss it in the microwave for about 15 seconds if you want a warmer meal.

Hi

Postby dede4wd » May 26th, 2006, 8:44 pm

That sounds REALLY good Manly, I think I'm going to try it this weekend! I'm also trying to add some new things to my L & G's...I'm getting a little bored with the same old same old too!

Thanks for that!

I may try this without the cottage cheese. It sounds good and definitely would be a much needed change for my L&G. I too am getting bored.

Thanks for the idea.

I ate this again tonight and it was just as good! I think that I am going to make it without the chicken next time, so I can use a full cup of cottage cheese. The chicken is nice, but it doesn't add a lot.

Question, is it ok to eat something like cottage cheese often...or is it one of those things (like beef) that you should only eat a few times a week?

I've eaten this every night for the past four days. The past two nights, I've left the chicken out and used almost a full cup of cottage cheese. It's really good, but I think I'm going to only eat it about once a week from this point on. I don't want to get sick of it.

I think I need to get into a routine where I eat something different every night.

Manly,

Compared to chicken (-0- carbs), your recipe is adding 9 carbs to your lean every day that you have it. If you count up all of your carbs for the day including all the supplements and the L&G, are you still in the 80-85 carb range that Medifast recommends? I don't think I would be, but I have a bar every day.

That's why I stay away from added stuff.....it makes my life much simpler. I don't need to add anything up.....I do that all day at work, I don't want to have to do it at home.

I kind of use Atkins as my "ketosis manual" regarding the l&G (minus all that fatty bacon and such). A lot of Atkins people don't lose as much when they add diary in for protein - just some food for thought.
