fAST FOOD SALADS

Postby chanceaway » April 7th, 2006, 9:55 am

Can I have a fast food salad like the grilled chicken salad at mcdonalds for my lean and green meal? With lowfat dressing of course.

Angela

There was a post about this not too very long ago and I did a search and found that the chicken was grilled in margarine so I avoid them. I do know that some have had them though on plan. Also you are probably not going to get the correct portions for the lean and green going that way.

Mickey Dee Salad

Postby NE gal in South » April 7th, 2006, 11:25 am

When I started Medifast in June of 2004 I cleaned out all cupboards and refrig. I knew I could not trust myself with anything. I went to McDonald's every night on my way home for 6 weeks and ordered the Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken and low fat dressing (Paul Newman's Low Fat Balsamic). In 6 weeks I lost around 33 lbs. After 6 weeks and 1 salad that had rather old slimy lettuce that I ate anyways, I knew I could trust myself with lettuce, cukes and grape tomatoes and some grilled chicken or grilled salmon and started making my own.

I say if ordering a salad at McDonalds is what it takes to get you started and keep you on track, DO IT. I have lost over 160 lbs. Keep shaking! It works, if you JUST DO IT!!!

I disagree, actually. I don't think they put anywhere near 7 ounces of cooked chicken in there. So yeah, you can lose weight, but that doesn't make it healthy. If you really want to do this, I'd get one and just weigh the chicken and see how much is in there. You may need to get two salads.

Salad

Postby Jan » April 7th, 2006, 6:14 pm

Hmmm,
I think Robin has the right idea. It is very important for you to get in all your protein everyday. We are balancing your carbs and proteins. Seven oz of chicken ( cooked weight is a lot more than we generally think). I'd weigh it tooo and see. Maybe there is 7 oz of chicken but I'm not sooo sure. You are allowed 2 cups of lettuce -- that's a lot, 7 oz of chicken and another 1/2 cup of raw veggies. If you do decide to weight it let us all know how it is. Plus remember many times the chicken is of all things sugared. Americans as a whole love sugar, salt and fat.

I have a grilled chicken salad at least once a week at a restaraunt. I have to say... if you have a chilis restaraunt nearby..... they rock!!! :clapclap:

Hi

Postby dede4wd » April 7th, 2006, 10:38 pm

I agree with Robin completely. I got the salad at Subway and when I got home, noticed I had 3.5oz of chicken! I had to open a can of chicken for the other 3.5oz! Just be careful! Also, sometimes they put lemon or lime juice on the salads, AND SOMETIMES PLAIN SUGAR TO MAKE THEM TASTE BETTER!

It's way better than nothing (or ordering fries) if you're in a bind, but my loss slowed down the week I was using the fast food chicken salads as my L & G. I just decided to bite the bullet and do it myself and I travel for a living! Hope this helps!

I take my kiddos to McD's at least once a week and get their chicken caesar salad with the balsamic vinagrette. The chicken is not a full 7oz portion so I ask them to add another chicken breast which they can do and then just charge you for it. So try that!!!! If this is what works for you and you're not against paying a bit more for additional protein, ask for it. I've never gone to a place that will not accomodate special orders!
