Expired products

Postby just_julie » May 3rd, 2006, 12:56 pm

I just realized that I acquired some expired products through a trade. They were sort of bonus items, so I'm not upset - just wondered if they would be any good. It's the cocoa with marshmallows in it. Packets read EXP 0205.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure where I read this (Medifast forum?) and I'm not even sure if it's right, but here goes, lol. I think that Medifast says it's ok to use the expired product, but that some of the nutrients may have lost some of their potency, so to take a multi-vitamin when you are using them.

You'll need to sign a waiver to follow this advice, hehe.

A friend gave me a bunch of exp chicken and wild rice(she was sick of it) and it was still yummy and no adverse side effects.lol Yum!

On the other hand Some fruit and nut bars I got in a trade  were not exp.(I dont think they were at least) but maybe from sitting around so long waiting to be shipped, they smelled and tasted like rotten fruit...I had to toss them. Anything that is freeze dried tho..should be fine. :-P

And, MF has cocoa with marshmallows in it???? I am totally missing out!

Gina

I'd go for it. I've eaten MRE's while in the Middle East that were years past expiration date. They had lost some flavor but were ok to eat. The freeze dried MF foods are packaged a lot like military survival rations. It takes alot for them to go bad.

Hi

02/05 seems pretty far out, but I've gone as far as 6 months out with no problems. I agree about taking a vitamin for potency loss problems. I'm completely on non-expired product now. I had some...leftovers from my last go on MF!

Did I hear my name??

I can SEND my marshmallow syrup, since I'm still in the middle of my syrup-free test.

I was told that you can use MF products up to a year after expiration and then toss 'em because of nutrient loss.
