embarassment?

Postby cyberghost » September 15th, 2006, 4:07 pm

Ok, so here's the deal: I love this diet, I love everything about it - but I'm going down to LA this weekend, which means I'll be with friends all day long. This also means that they'll probably see me down a shake or two while I'm there. The thing is, I'm kind of embarassed about having to do it infront of them. Anyone have any coping mechanism advice for a silly girl who gets embarrassed over silly things?

I was a little hesitant at first, but at some point they see all the weight you've lost and you can't really hide that you've been dieting.

I'd say just do it, and if anyone says anything, tell 'em what you're doing. I know it's easy to say, but why be embarrassed about doing something good for yourself and trying to get yourself to a healthy weight? You started out wanting to lose almost 120 pounds, so I'm guessing they already know you're overweight. ;) Don't be ashamed about trying to do something about it!!

I was at first too and I made it so I could eat other things around people. Like prebake some oatmeal and bring it as a snack or have my bar then. It was easier for me.

I am sure if you can push past being shy about MF you will find that your friends will be sooooooo supportive of what you are doing for yourself!!

I didn't care what people thought of me doing mf. I did it and still do it at work all the time, I can't hide it unless I'm not gonna eat and that AIN'T gonna happen :)
For real....don't worry what others think, just do what you gotta do and be proud of the fact that you are taking control back of your life.

Thanks for your support - and the oatmeal cookie thing sounds like an excellent idea!

I think my shyness stems from me being scared of failing, and also, because MF sounds like any other fad shake diet unless you sit down and explain it properly. And I hate explaining myself to anyone.

"Doctor-approved weight-loss plan." That's all I used to say, unless someone asked. And usually if someone DID ask more about it, it was because either they or someone they knew needed to lose weight, too.

Heck, I'm not above just saying "I don't want to discuss it" when people seem like they're about to criticize it or be negative.

RTDs are also nice to have around. I've been known to stow one in my purse and just down it after excusing myself to go to the bathroom or something. It's not like your friends will be watching you every second, will they? If you really don't want them to know, you can excuse yourself for a minute or "run back to the car for something" or whatever.

I understand this, but on the other hand you could look at your friends as accountability other than this board. They probably will become interested in it if you allow them and will want to follow your progress. Failing won't happen. Too many people here want you to succeed, and you sound like you yourself want to succeed too much to fail. If failing scares you though, accountability may help to keep you on the straight and narrow.

I too have not and do not plan to tell anyone other than my husband and best friend about my diet.

I don't know if you're on the full fast, but if not, this week, I had my lean green meal when I went out with friends. Of course the portions were too big, so after I had my 7 oz of chicken and 1/3 of the lettuce, I just moved the rest around on my plate and drank plently of water.

Hope this helps and keep you head up. You're a great big LOSER just like the rest of us!

I also was hesitant about telling anyone, and still have not told most of my friends, but I bake the cookies and take the RTDs with me when I am going out with some of them. Then I "snack" and eat 1 LG meal with them. Then when they want to get another, I just politely say that I am still full from lunch and the snacking I have been doing. Then I order coffee or whatever and still sit with them.

Most of all cyberghost, have a good time and enjoy yourself. Whatever you decide about revealing or not to them, stick to the plan and don't let anyone get in the way. You are helping yourself, and if you are embarrassed about it, the RTDs are the way to go!
