I'm a dummy...

Postby pixiewhispers » May 8th, 2006, 4:11 pm

I bought a scale. It measures in ounces. So what is the conversion for ounces to cups? THe MF book says we can have 1 1/2 cup of cooked vegetable. SO, the dummy I am, can not figure out how much eggplant I can have tonight!!

You're not a dummy! I always thought a cup was 8oz, so 1 1/2 cups would be 12oz, right? I'm sure one of the chef-types on this forum would help you when they see your post...

Hope this helps at all!

Eight ounces is one cup, so a cup and a half is 12 ounces. Most measuring cups denote ounces and cups. I use a measuring cup to measure out my vegetables. I only use my scale to measure the lean portion of the Lean and Green. Hope this helps.

This isn't quite true, actually. The cups of vegetables refers to volume, not weight, I believe. The ounces on the scale refer to weight. So there is no conversion because you're measuring two different things.

A cup is 8 fluid ounces, which is again a measure of volume. For instance, a cup of water does not weigh the same as a cup of mushrooms. Or juice. But if you use a scale and weigh out 8 ounces of those things, they would all weigh the same (8 ounces).

you are mixing to different types of measurements. You are measuring volume with a measuring cup and weight with a scale. One does not directly correlate to the other. 12 oz. on a scale does not equal 1-1/2 cups unless you can cut it up and physically make it fit into a cup and a half.

Hi

You know what, I'M THE DUMMY! I wasn't reading the post clearly enough and I was projecting my own situation onto you, Maime...I bought a MEASURING CUP that only measures in ounces and not cups and that was actually the question I was answering.

I also measure my veggies in a measuring cup, not on a scale, and my meat on the scale. I'm sorry I'm dingy, but I can't help it!

So, I should cook the eggplant and then measure 1 1/2 cups of it?
