GRATS!

Postby Echo » June 18th, 2004, 8:29 am

That is great. It must feel so good to be 30lbs down. Sometimes when I'm doing chores or shopping I like to compare my weight loss to the weight of things I get. Like, a bag of sugar is 5lbs, I imagine carrying 4 bags of sugar around all day (since I've lost about 20lbs) and that is heavy! Not that I buy Crisco, but a can of Crisco is 3lbs. I imagine that 3lbs of fat plunked right on my butt and love that it's gone X7, for good. Raven, you lost 10 cans of Cisco!!! Next time you are in the store check out the shelves and see just how much 30lbs of Crisco is.

I know it's kinda corny but it helps me to visualize the difference. I love logging on to glamour.com for the virtual model and modify her to show me 20lbs ago then see the difference now, it's amazing. Then I modify it to show me 20 lbs lighter and get soo motivated! It hasn't been that long, and if I can do this for 20 I can do it for 40!

Echo,

I like to relate my weight loss to those things too - especially when I'm lugging a 20 pound bag of cat food up my 2 flights of stairs - I used to be carrying TWO of those on my bod! Incredible!

The last time I was at my parents my Dad plunked a 5 pound weight into my hand and said '8 of those!'. It was amazing - how did I ever carry it around?

Funny how visualizing works. As most of you know, I have 2 daughters, a thin 13 year old that weighs 95 pounds, and a 3 year old that weighs about 35 pounds.

Any of you that have kids understands "up" "I want up" "up Da-Da"

Try and pick up 35 pounds of "dead" weight. When she will not help, or assist, it's "dead weight" After about 5 minutes of carrying her around, I am just worked.

Imagine I have lost 3 of her, and looking at my teen, knowing her size - very tall - I lost her, and another almost 20 more.

Yikes, and I carried this around for most of my adult life.

NO MORE!

Hmmmmm......I don't have any human kids - but I do have a parrot. She weighs about 400 grams, which would be .88 of a pound - so I've lost 48 and a half Maggies! Although I doubt she's happy about the diet program, she doesn't get fries, mashed potatoes or peanut butter from Mom anymore. She has to wait and get it at at Gramma and Grampas.

Somehow it doesn't sound as impressive in parrots as it does in bags of sugar and cans of crisco. <g>

Hey Carrie!

I've got a parrot too! A blue-front amazon male named Willie and also a male eleanora cockatoo named Harley. Yes, they are eating less junk food too! Actually NO junk food! Cheers to another fan of feathered friends and to all of us losers!!! ;) Camille

Hi Camille!
Maggie is a yellow-crowned amazon and she pretty much runs the house. Thank god she goes to Gramma and Grampas on the weekends, it gives me a break!

It's like having a very intelligent toddler for the rest of your life. She's definitely 'the baby' of the family.

Yes, I know the feeling of entertaining a toddler (parrot). I got Willie when I was in 4th grade when he was 6 months old, and he's now 41 years old and I'm... well nevermind. Willie and Harley run my household and life - and well I'm just their housekeeping staff. Willie's my best friend in the whole world as well as Harley is too. Luckily, my husband appreciates Willie cause we are together for life. We got Harley for our first year anniversary present to each other and he too will be with us forever.

Ok, back to diet dialog (excuse us everyone for drifting). I'm day 18, am not weighing until July 1 but think I've lost a whole size in my shorts! Oh, also, I tried the peach tea and it's wonderful!

Keep up the good work Carrie and everyone! :hi5:

Parrot? Mashed taters? Hmmm.. I am getting hungry..

Are these like the Cornish Game Birds? Do they come w/ a spicy wing sauce like the ones at Hooters?

heh heh heh...

Ok Mike, I see I'm not the only one that thinks of Food all the time! :hide:

Actually, when my birds seem like they'd look pretty good on a bed of rice, I guess it'll be time for an extra shake :nutz:

Thanks for the chuckle, I needed it.

Ahhhhhhhh, there's not enough meat on her to make it worth your while. Although I do have a picture of her in the oven. Every year for my Dad's Christmas present I make one of those custom monthly calendars full of pictures of Maggie. One year for Novembers pic I got a roasting pan, put some potatoes in it, taped a sign to the edge of it that said 'We forgot the turkey, but it's ok - we have a parrot!' Set her in it and put it in the oven (with the door open) and snapped a pic really quick. Funny picture but Maggie was PO'd for quite a while after that. You can even tell she's pretty peeved in the pic.

Maggie's only 5 - I've had her since she was 10 weeks old - handfeeding and all that. And though I am the Mom, there's no doubt her favorite person in the world is my Dad. He spends a good portion of his time making toys and paraphernalia for her. She's got a pretty good life I can tell ya. Makes me sad for all the parrots out there who don't. Very often when I have her out someone will stop and tell me a story about their bird - things like 'I sure wish I could take my bird out like this, but every time I try to take him out of the cage he bites me.' And I have to wonder what kind of life the bird's having - how does he get a shower? He never leaves his cage? How big is the cage? I believe probably upwards of 90% of the people who have parrots shouldn't. They need an awful lot of love, attention, activities, and just plain WORK to keep them healthy and happy. Sort of 'It takes a village to raise a parrot.' I doubt I could do it without my parents help.

I have friends that have a Moluccan, an umbrella, a blue and gold AND an eclectus. They're nuts.
