Drugstore bar substitute

Postby SPMUSTANG » August 14th, 2006, 1:23 pm

I goofed up and didn't plan my shipment to properly coincide with my supply of bars. I have a week until my goodies get here and no meal bars to help me through. While I don't have to have a bar for a meal it makes life so much more convenient and easier to stay on plan. Which brings me to my question.....has anyone found a particular bar, which can be bought at the drugstore, which is fairly similar to the Medifast bar? I'm not talking long term committment to another type of bar here, just something that won't throw everything out of whack until my shipment arrives. Very few I've checked have soy and many have bookoo amounts of sugar or carbs. Thanks......

You might look at the Pria bars, and the South Beach bars. GeniSoy has a bar too, I believe. I haven't used any of these because I personally don't like the taste and texture of the bars, but I know of others who have used them. Especially the Pria.

I have been using the South Beach breakfast bars for the past few months without a problem. Make sure you buy the kind with 140 calories rather than the 210 calorie version.

I PM'd you about one that has fewer calories and I think carbs than any of those. I'd rather not post openly about non-Medifast products, though ...

You might look at Luna Bars, too. Very tasty, with many interesting flavors.

Be warned: Luna bars have a hefty 180 calories each, and 6 grams of fat. At least the flavor I looked at does.

With the Prias, it depends on what kind you get. There's one for 110 calories but it only has 5 grams of protein, one with 130 calories and 8 grams of protein, and one with 170 calories and 11 grams of protein. Carb counts vary, too, of course.

I used to have the Pria Carb Select in the old days. I also used the Powerbar Carb Select. Today, I just stick to the Medifast, cuz I just like 'em.
