I haven't had an x-ray. They did stick a huge needle in it 2 years ago and tried to draw fluid from it to be tested, but there wasn't any fluid in it. According to my doctor...... that's how he knew it was a fatty tumor. The surgeon said it was probably 8 cm in diameter, even though on the surface it only appears to be 3 cm. They are going to biopsy it, just to be safe.

Sounds like a good idea and I am sure medicine has changed a lot since I was 8. I guess they could just tell from the shape, look and location that mine was a fatty tumor. Mine is almost 5 inches long and is built like a little hill.

DonicaB wrote:My appointment went well, I guess. No needle sticks so that was good. The surgeon is pretty positive that it is a fatty tumor and said normally he would just take it out right there in the office. But, (of course there had to be a but), he is afraid that it is in the muscle and feels I need to go to the hospital to have it removed. Great!!!!! They are trying to set up the appointment for mid-May.

I can understand why you are being anxious--thats human nature at work. Even though there was a "but" in what the doctor said, I sense you know that is the right decision. I hope that you can keep it in perspective and continue to control those things you can--like your MF journey! How wonderfully you are doing--Congrats on being overweight!! (that sounds funny doesn't it?) ... I am still obese :x and will continue to be so for another 20lbs! :whattha:

Everything in due time ... ;)

Eh? Skinny Mary whatchoo talkin' bout?? "Obese" is a BMI over 30... you are only at 32 something... You mean to tell me 20 pounds is 2 points in the bmi? That's kinda crappy if so. :( I already dropped 2 bmi points and only lost 13 pounds.

I wanted to post something Lizabette said in her journal in my journal to give me encouragement when I get to maintainance.

We hear so much about how hard it is to maintain, and that almost everybody goes right back to regaining their weight.
But guys, it doesn't have to be that way!
It takes the same kind of commitment and determination to maintain as it does to lose the weight in the first place.
So we have to accept that, or why bother?
It is worth it, I'm here to tell you...

I'm sure I will need to refer to this often, so I wanted it to be easy to find.

I think skinny Mary is also petite in stature. That makes a big difference on BMI tables.

That's because you have 3" of height on me! I won't reach "overweight" until I weigh 161--or 17.5# below ticker :|

Okay  ... "skinny" and "petite" are not words that have applied to me since high school! LOL

Sorry for the hijack, Donica!

I didn't want to hijack Donica's thread with pictures of my fatty tumor, but because there seemed to be so many questions I took a picture of it which can be found in my journal.
