Geez. While they were trying to figure out how to do the MRI because he has Parkinson's-like tremors but they can't sedate him because of the other problems, he had a seizure. So then they made it a stat MRI (the anti-seizure meds made him sleep, and he doesn't move in his sleep), but it still was several hours before they finally got him in and he was starting to wake up again by then.

Now we're waiting for results. And based on that, we'll decide what to do. If he's going to be there awhile, we'll look at setting up a schedule and taking turns staying in California to help him and my aunt. Hopefully I can get someone to stay with the puppies. It'll be easier if I can go after Friday, when Mojo won't have to go in for several days to get her bandages changed again. Although it's supposed to rain, so the pet sitter would have to keep Mo's paws dry. And she'll have to be confined, of course. Ugh. Might be easier to hospitalize her while I'm away. I don't know.

Hi

Robin,
OMG, what else? I swear, you are a hero! I would be either a pool of goo on the floor or would have locked myself in a Dairy Queen truck by now, but not you.

You just keep going, problem to problem and HANDLE it. It's awe-inspiring!

I so wish there was something I could do to help. Just know that you're a hero of mine and people know they can depend on you! Dogs too!

Thanks, DeDe. I feel like I AM a big puddle of goo at this point. I talked to Carol to help her through it, then talked to my brother to let him know what was going on ... and then sobbed all the way home from work.

At least Mojo still had the inflatable collar on when I got home, so THAT worked out. Now I just need to find out what's up with my uncle and when I need to go out there, and what the heck to do with the dogs when I'm gone (which I guess depends on when I need to go).

If I'm still here Saturday, I should be one fun date. I hope he likes red, puffy eyes with big, dark circles under them.

Once again, the scales are behaving oddly. One of them, at least. So I have no idea. I was good yesterday, except that instead of oatmeal or Medifast pudding last night, I had two regular pudding cups (120 cals total instead of 110, so no big deal, I don't think; less protein is about the only difference). By the time I finished talking to Carol and my brother, and got home, and got Mojo out for a walk, and the dogs fed, and Mojo out for a longer walk, I couldn't wait even the minute and a half for oatmeal.

Still waiting for word on my uncle. I doubt they've done the MRI or anything yet, and I don't want to call to see how his night was in case Carol's getting some sleep.

What a crazy day. First, I had to take Mojo to the vet because her newly redone bandage was slipping right off her paw. Then I made all kinds of arrangements in case I had to go to LA suddenly, because it looked like I was going to be heading out this weekend or Monday.

But now my uncle seems to be doing a little better, and the docs think maybe it's not an abscess after all. We'll know better after the MRI tomorrow (which is delayed until tomorrow because they need to bring in an anesthesiologist). If it is an abscess and he needs more surgery, I'll go right away. If it's the stroke and he continues to improve, I'll wait till sometime next week. I still want to go, though, if just to give my aunt and cousin moral support.

Meanwhile, I was very good and cooked some veggies to go with my chicken, and packed it all in an old Cool Whip container to bring to work. So dinnertime came, and I got out my container to heat it up ... and it was full of Cool Whip!!! There aren't really a lot of choices for healthy stuff around, so I just had pizza. Veggie pizza with spinach and tomatoes, at least. I'm sure I could have found something better if I'd really looked, but after spending half my shift on the phone with cousins (because after Carol called, I had to call my brother and another cousin) and researching kennels in Missoula, Mont., that can handle an epileptic dog (for one of the sons, in case he has to go out suddenly), I really couldn't see spending a lot of time finding something healthier. I just didn't even care right then. I haven't eaten out in over a week, so I don't think it's a big deal.

Oh, sweetie. What an awful time you're having! You're in my thoughts and prayers, along with your uncle and Mojo. Hang in there.

It's getting ridiculous. Although I had to laugh at the Cool Whip thing.

And of course, I meant to make some Medifast pudding or something before I left for work, so I'd have it ready tonight. But I forgot, since I was already late because of Mojo's last-minute trip to the vet.

No weigh-in this morning, between the pizza and the lack of sleep. My cousin called at about 8 a.m. - which of course is really early for me - to let me know how her dad was doing before she went to get a little sleep. Apparently he's regaining a lot of control on the affected side of his body, so that's great news. Now we're just waiting for the MRI results, so that my other cousin can figure out his travel plans and I can figure out mine. I'm also going to talk to the vet clinic today to see when they think Mo's stitches can come out.

The Cool Whip thing is pretty funny. Especially since your mind must have been 80 places at once not to notice the difference in weight between cool whip and vegetables.

If you EVER need help to take care of your dogs, I can help out! I can either stay at your place (if you feel comfortable with that), or I have a friend who lives in Bedford I can stay with and come walk, feed, take to vet, etc. for you. PLEASE feel free if you need some help~ i think you still have my cell - PM me if you don't ~ you are going through SO much and I am totally proud of you; i do not know how you do it!

Thanks, Mary, I really appreciate that.

Still waiting to hear about the MRI. On the home front, the vet says Mo's stitches can come out early next week. So depending on things in LA, I'll take her in either Tuesday or Wednesday, get 'em out, and then be ready to leave. I think she's also finally not in heat, so I've been able to let her wander the house for a couple of hours with Teemu, although I'll still pen her when I go to work.

Jdate guy is picking me up here tomorrow morning for date 2. My house is a pig sty right now, though (not that it's normally all that neat). Hopefully he understands. Cleaning up is kind of the last thing on my mind right now.

Robin;

I hope you have a wonderful date. You really are a rock, like DeDe said, and I am also blown away by your strength. I'm glad to hear things are starting to slow down and improve with the 'babies' and your uncle. I'm pretty much speechless at your example. Thank you for sharing your strength with me as I've gone through my own minor problems lately.

Hey, don't minimize what you're going through, Nickie. My issues are nowhere near the struggles you've been having. I think it's really inspiring to see you still fighting through, no matter what.

On the plus side, I realized this morning that even though I had the pizza last night, I didn't have anything ELSE off my maintenance plan. No chocolate, nothing. I even skipped my apple and peanut butter because of the extra fat from the pizza. And today I'm back on normal food (except I didn't run today because I had to supervise the dogs to make sure there was no hanky-panky, since Mojo still has her stitches). So I'm way short on exercise this week, but I'm not going to stress about it. I think I'll get to sleep in my own bed tonight, which should help. So hopefully I can get a run in at some point tomorrow, between the date and my plans with my friend. If not, I'll start Sunday with a vengeance. I think my aunt and uncle even still have a treadmill out there (plus my gym is out there), so I can squeeze in some runs while I'm there.

And more happy news: My cousin just called a few minutes ago. There's no abscess, and they say the stroke was small and they expect him to make a full recovery. They're going to let him have some liquids later on, and if that goes well, he'll get to eat something. And he's asking if I'm coming, so I'm just waiting to figure out when would be the best time so I can book my flights and arrange for the dogs' care. Which will be SO much easier if I can wait till Tuesday or Wednesday and get Mo's stitches out first.

Good heavens. Now my aunt is ill with some sort of stomach flu or something, so I've been put on notice that I may be needed sooner rather than later. Although I think unless Carol gets sick, too, they should be OK for a few days with my other cousin coming out.

Of course, with the ice storm we're supposed to get, I may not be ABLE to go anywhere. Including on my date (although honestly, if there's a big ice storm, I'd just as soon stay home anyway).

Hey Robin! I thought of you today. We are going to have an ice storm as well. Wish I lived closer cause me and Cosmo & Trevor would help out with Mojo & Teemu. Stay safe!
