Ha. I know, I don't know what they were thinking when they typed it. It's Penelope. Although if I adopt her, she'll be MoJo (for Monica Jo or possibly Mortimer Jo - and yes, I know it's a boy's name, but I like it anyway).

Meanwhile, on the Maggie front. No dinner, but she ate her McNuggets and the cheese for her pills. I would think she's just being stubborn about the food, except she wouldn't eat her cookies earlier, either. I gave her some extra neurontin tonight to see if it helps her.

I am glad Maggie was able to eat her McNuggets. They seem to be comfort food for her.

No, not the Jo part, the Morty part. Not a lot of girls named Morty.

She loves McNuggets. Today she gets her favorite, though. KFC.

Meanwhile, after being so good about the fast food, I had a bit of a run-in with some cookies last night (another gift from a co-worker). The good news is, once I decided to have them, I took out a few and put the rest in the trash. So I KNOW I won't be having any more. Those will be my last treat until the 26th, when Maggie goes in for the last time. I figure that night and the next day, I'll pretty much just have whatever I feel like, then it's back to business.

Thanks, guys. I think it was actually a comment in Sojo's journal that gave me the idea for the name.

I didn't get a chance to post last night, but we met Mojo (currently called Penelope), and I signed the papers. Teemu did OK, although he was petrified to be in a strange house. Poor Mojo kept trying everything she could to get him to play, but he was too scared. We took them on a walk together and he was a little better, though. I think he'll be fine once she's at our house. And she clearly had no issues with dogs, people, cats, or anything else.

I'm supposed to pick her up a week from Saturday, giving me and Tay a few days on our own. And she still needs to be spayed, so I have an appt at my vet for that a few days later.

On the food/workout front ... I ran yesterday, which was good. I wasn't very good about water yesterday, though, plus when I picked up KFC for Maggie they had a really cheap deal that included mashed potatoes and biscuits. I gave them part of a biscuit and tossed the rest, but I did have some mashed potatoes (with dinner, though, as my carb; not quite as healthy as my usual roasted butternut squash or baked sweet potato). Had a bit more than I should have, but then once again tossed the leftovers in the trash so I wouldn't eat anymore. I hate wasting all this food, but better to do that than to eat it, right?

So anyway, I'm 130.8 again today but kind of dehydrated. So I'm going to have breakfast first with a couple of bottles of water and run afterward.

As for Maggie, she's still doing pretty well. Well enough that sometimes I think I'm doing this too early. Sigh. But it's not like she's herself. I think she's just doped up enough to not be in so much pain. But mostly she just lies around, and she really struggles with walking around and steps and stuff like that.

Oh, and now they think my uncle (who I'm very close to; father of the cousin I always talk about) may have a subdural hematoma in his head. At first they wanted him to go to the ER last night, then they told him to come in first thing today instead. So we'll know more later.

Robin,
I've spent my morning reading through your journal. I'm trying to get to know everyone here. I'm so very sorry about your sweet baby. I've lost much beloved pets in the past and it can be as devastating as losing a family member. It sounds like you're doing everything you can and still staying on track with your maintenance. I wish there was some way I could help you. My hubby's 13 year old great dane/gery hound has hip displaysia sp? and is getting worse every day. He grew up with the dog and it still lives with his stepmom. He's begged her to let her go and end her suffering but they just can't do it. I think you're doing the right thing. Stay strong, and though you don't know me very well, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your doggie.

Thanks. Hopefully we'll get to know each other more once this is all over and I'm back on here more.

Meanwhile, when it rains ...

My uncle had a CAT scan, and he's got an acute subdural hematoma. They're checking him into the hospital and his doc is calling neurosurgeons. Carol, my cousin, is stuck in Denver because the airport's closed by the blizzard. I'm waiting to hear more once the surgeon gets there, and then I'll have to figure out what to do. I don't know how I can leave Maggie or who I can leave her with, but I can't imagine not being there. Meanwhile, of course, depending on what goes on, Carol won't be able to come here if something's going on with her dad.

I guess I'll figure things out later today, when we hear more.

He's going in for surgery at 7 p.m. California time. So hopefully we'll know more tonight. If I suddenly disappear from here, then something went wrong and I'll be back in a few days.

Carol's headed out there tomorrow, once the airport reopens. He's supposed to be in the hospital for five days if all goes well, so the chances of her coming here to go with me and Maggie on the 26th are pretty slim, even if everything turns out OK. I wouldn't even expect her to try.

Why does everything have to happen at once??

OK, he's out of surgery. The doc says everything was pretty routine. He'll be in recovery for a while, and then in ICU, and he'll need to stay several days while it drains.

Carol's going to try to get out there tomorrow, but the airlines are saying everything's booked and backed up and chances aren't good. Her mom is telling her to then fly from there to here Tuesday, to be with me and Maggie. I told her not to worry about it, and we'll deal with it later. Meanwhile, a friend in California says if they can change Carol's ticket, she can come out instead. Won't be quite the same (Carol's actually got a doctorate in psychology and used to be a grief counselor), but at least I wouldn't be alone.

I won't feel better till he's out of the hospital, though.

My uncle's doing better, thankfully. He's complaining about stuff at the hospital, which is always a good sign. Carol's going to try to fly out there, but is worried about getting a flight. But her plan is to get there as soon as she can, then fly here at some point Tuesday.

Maggie's doing pretty well. I'm worried again that I'm letting her go too soon, and I wish there were a way to tell for sure how she's feeling. Sometimes she seems really down, but other times she seems pretty content. She came to greet me last night when I got home, and was actually excited about her KFC dinner.

Meanwhile, I was up a bit this morning, but I'm not surprised given everything that's been going on. I didn't run first thing because I was on the phone with Carol, but I'm going to go walk now (not run, probably, but I'm going to walk for a whole hour instead).

Robin, I'm SO glad that your uncle is improving - yeah, the complaining is always a good indicator! Will continue sending "Sojo's Mojo" your way for both he and Maggie.

Your Mojo (nee Penelope) sounds like great fun! She was prolly so happy because she could sense how WONDERFUL her new mommy is gonna' be! Lucky girl...

Hasta!

Woo hoo. In the midst of all this stress - and on a day when I'm feeling especially fat for no reason at all, since my weight dropped after that initial weigh-in - someone at work who I don't see often commented that I'm "wasting away" and look great.

And Carol's booked on a flight tomorrow morning, although after reading a story tonight on the continued problems in Denver, I'm skeptical. I hope she gets out, though. Her dad's driving everyone crazy, which is definitely good news.

And I'm looking forward to spending one last full day with Maggie tomorrow. I'm going to keep errands to a minimum and mostly just hang out with her and Teemu.
