I am ashamed to say...I am a former distance runner...yes I remember running 10 miles because it was FUN and I felt better if I did, I never ran less than 4 miles a day, never completed a marathon though, tore up a knee...10 years later and 100 lbs I can't believe that was me...


HMMMMM I wonder...am I too old to run a marathon???? I'd like to see Boston 8)

You know the truth is, as I always knew it, if you can run 1 mile, just a mile, we have all ran a mile, you can run 5, if you run 5 you can run 10...it stops there for me... after a mile your body suddenly gets this rush and it feel good...

I HATE walking, hence I do NOTHING...except grow fatter butt cheeks

That's SO not true for me. I can run a mile, but I can't run 5, let alone more than that. Not yet, anyway. (Of course, "we have all run a mile" didn't really apply to me, either. Until a couple of years ago, I had never run a mile. Not even when I was a kid.)

Wow Robin. You look great.

And for running the mile. We were suppose to do that in gym class. But my friends would run a 1/4 of a mile hide behind the shed and smoke a cigg. Then continue that. The gym teacher always wanted to know why it took us 18 minutes to run a mile. :mrgreen:

I am so glad I Do not smoke anymore.

We were supposed to do that, too, but I always walked it. I'd run a few steps and get a stitch in my side and just walk the rest. Ever since I can remember.

I'm still waiting to experience that runner's high. Maybe I'm too busy struggling for breath and listening to my heart race to notice it.

I am trying to jog (run) for 2 minutes and recover for 5-7. I am hoping to do a 5K in under 50 minutes (walk/jog) by Memorial Day. My ultimate goal is run a marathon by the time I am 40 (that gives me seven years to train).

Ah yes, the evil sweat. Once I get into the exercise habit, I try to look at the sweat as something positive. Gross, but positive. I have to confess, though, when I say I want to run - I mean TV running, where they have the cute outfits and run super fast but never break a sweat (or so it appears through screen magic). Plus it would be cool to say 'I run every morning, never miss it' and not be lying. :lol:

LOL. Well, it's pretty clear from the photos, I don't "TV run." When I'm done, I can take off my running bra and wring it out. It's pretty disgusting, but in a good way. :)

And that's a pretty great goal, OKsooner. I know someone who lost about the same amount of weight I did, at about the same time, and she took up running and hiking and has now done a marathon. I just can't even imagine it, plus it requires way more training time. I'll be happy when I can run the whole 5K (and then maybe I'll work on a 10K, if I get tired of trying to just improve my time). Then again, I'm almost 48.

Except for the races, I'm on a treadmill, too, Leigh. With two or three fans pointed at me and the A/C all the way up. I still sweat like crazy, but I'm assuming that's because I'm working really, really hard. Running is still very hard for me; my heart rate still goes up to ridiculous levels whenever I do it. I'm not sure why. Seems like it ought to have gotten easier by now. I suspect my body really just wasn't made for running.

Thats it I am ROLLING ON THE FLOOR...oh my gosh so funny, we were never allowed to eat 3 hours before a meet, if at warm up we were dragging the coach would ask us if we ate, if we did we would go behind the shed and puke...okay this is the 1980's, sound so wrong now, I think he was trying to prevent us puking during a meet ...obviously we did NOT eat before a meet, smoking too funny

Haha, I was the same way when running the mile in school - run for maybe 3 minutes and then mostly walk the rest. Great job with the running though! Those pictures look great.

It's been awhile, so I guess it's time to pop in and update (I do come by to read journals some days, but it doesn't seem like many people are posting anymore; hard to believe it's even slower here than it was!!).

Anyway, not much changed here. Still running/walking, still maintaining at or below goal but kinda trying to lose a few more pounds. Finally got that BodyBugg I lusted after a couple of years ago. It's been less than a week, so I don't know if it'll help, but so far I like it and it's motivating me to move more during the day to drive up my calorie burn a little bit.
