Hey, y'all (practicing my Texan again). Shoulder's still holding up. It's not back to normal or anywhere close, but it felt strong enough today that I did my stretches and exercises. I'm hoping it'll stay bearable with the Celebrex.

The bro's also apparently doing OK. His wife said she'd have him call me when she got to the hospital, but of course he hasn't. I'm hoping it's because he's being discharged today and plans to call when he's out (or when he's done with whatever tests they need to run before they let him go; she said this morning that one doc was still saying he'd go home today and the other was saying tomorrow). They want him on a Mediterranean diet with lots of fish (which will be interesting because he doesn't like much fish and never cooks), plus he has to start PT right away and then follow it with 30 minutes of exercise a day.

Have I mentioned that my brother is insane? He was arguing the other day that he didn't actually have a heart attack, because he wasn't in cardiac arrest. "It's not like they had to use the paddles on me" was his exact quote. Then yesterday, because he keeps talking about how he's going to move to Costa Rica because he's had enough of America (he's prone to exaggeration when he's frustrated about politics), I asked him how the cardiac care is there. He said it doesn't matter, because now that he has the stents, he's fine and doesn't need to worry about it. AUGH.

So meanwhile, I did one thing I CAN control and did my full hour this morning. Just walking, but again at a steeper incline. Plus I started my shoulder stretches and exercises again yesterday. It's a little painful today, but not bad.

And the one bright spot: 127.6 today, baby! That's 9 pounds in 11 weeks, which for me is pretty darn phenomenal. One more pound and I get my first little teddy bear (the unnamed plan I'm on sends you a little teddy bear for every 10 pounds you lose; each one says the number of pounds and is a different color, and then you get a special one when you get to goal, too).

Congrats on the weight loss, Robin! You totally rock! :kool:

You've absolutely earned your bear!

I'm glad your bro is feeling better enough to argue. Some days I wanna run away and live in south America, too! Although not due to politics - more 'cause I wanna live on the beach and drink margaritas all day. :)

Oh, the beach was involved. He said you could get a house on the beach for $300,000 (coming from San Jose, that's a huge bargain) and they have high-speed Internet, so he could still work. :)

Meanwhile, the car dealership already called me this morning. The customer service person said the manager wanted to know why I left without a car, and what he could do to make the sale. I told him I was there Saturday with my checkbook out, ready to go, but they wouldn't come up enough on my trade-in and they basically let me walk over $500. She asked if I would consider coming back, and I said sure, meet my price, and we have a deal since I haven't gone to another dealership yet. She's supposed to get back to me.

And yay. My bro just e-mailed that he saw his cardiologist this morning and is being released today. So now if he'd just follow the diet/exercise recommendations ...

I hope your brother has an 'awakening' after this and tries to get healthier. It's not easy but it's certainly worth it, and he has a great sister to give him an example to follow!

I'm so glad that everything went well and he's already coming home.

You know, it just occurred to me. With all the stress and emotional upset this weekend, I never once even THOUGHT about going off my plan or even skipping a workout. Wow.

Oh, and my bro is now home and doing well. And the dealership called, and met the price I gave them Saturday (which I was willing to go below today), so I'm buying a car on my way home from work.

I am glad to read that your brother's condition is better and he has been allowed to go home. My brother also has heart problems (he is 54) and I drove him home from the hospital on Saturday....he was there for 4 days, trying to get his problems under control.

I hope that shoulder begins improving for you soon.

Thanks, guys (and yep, Katie, 127.4 this morning). It's definitely been kind of crazy here. I can't believe I haven't turned to food, but it really didn't even cross my mind till yesterday - and then only because I realized it HADN'T crossed my mind. Very weird, but it was SO nice to recognize that. I may still struggle sometimes, but that seems like major progress to me.

So yeah, got the car last night. Didn't get home till 9 and still had to feed the dogs, so I was STARVING. But I grabbed my "dessert" and scarfed it down while I was feeding them, then had my dinner and stayed up a little later than normal to let it digest. Set the alarm for later this morning and skipped my workout, BUT I did a second walk yesterday with someone from work plus someone else has already asked if I want to go walking today, too. So I figure I'm OK. Besides, getting even my normal sleep, which isn't quite enough, was more important.

Anyway, off to do some work and maybe order some get-well thing for my bro, since he's home all week.

I'm so glad your bro is home and yay about the car!

Wow, all that stress and no turning to food? How AWESOME is that? It must've been great when you realized that it hadn't crossed your mind! How cool!

Yup, pretty proud. Who ever thought I'd be normal?? LOL

And I sent him some pineapple daisies (pineapple cut into flowers, with cantaloupe balls in the middle and some sprigs of grapes) from Edible Arrangements. He loved 'em, and didn't get upset and think I was nagging him. So yay for that, too.

Congratulations on the new car! Tell us more about it---what did you get? I'm dealing with new car envy, mine is 11 years old and has 180,000 miles. It is still going strong unfortunately or fortunately--how I feel is whatever day it is......some days I love no car payments, other days I would love to drive something new.

Yeah, I bought the last one for cash, so I haven't had payments in years. But they were offering 0 percent financing, so I figured it'd be kind of crazy NOT to take the loan this time.

Anyway, it's a Corolla LE. I originally wanted a Prius, but they're SO expensive, and I really didn't like driving it, partly because the seat had no height adjustment (and I'm a midget, as we all know). So it's silver, with gray and black interior. The seat's still a little low, even when it's raised as much as it'll go, but today I tried it without my little pillow and it was still OK. It's hard, cause I love the car, but my last one was LOADED, and I kinda miss all the luxuries. But the Jetta basically turned on me a couple of years ago, and it's been nothing but problems (and EXPENSIVE problems, at that; thanks, VW!) since then.

I did notice a nice little feature last night and this morning, though. The dashboard lights up automatically when it gets dark out, which the Jetta didn't do. So when I was driving home and hit a darker area (it was overcast), all my gauges lit up. Or this morning, when I entered the parking garage, poof!

But no more six cylinders. Or heated leather seats. Or outdoor temperature. Or automatic climate control. Or the little thing that told you how long you'd been driving (nice for clocking my commute) and what your gas mileage was right then or for the whole tank. (Then again, my mileage seems to be way better, so there's that. And I do love the little plug for my iPod, so I don't have to play it through the radio anymore. It even has an iPod-size cubbyhole.)
