Hey, Lauren! Figured you'd be around at some point to weigh in. How are you doing since the surgery? Feeling better? Are you able to do more than stroll yet?

And yeah, I figure the workouts will go a long way toward fixing my attitude. And seriously, the new hours will also stop this evening eating nonsense. By the time I get home around 7, feed the dogs, eat dinner, and get everything ready for the morning, I won't have much time for dessert. For right now, I'm just glad to be working out again and getting that back to normal. But I want to nip this all in the bud before it gets out of hand.

I should have expected this, I suppose. I seem to do best when my routine is relatively uninterrupted. And it's been all haywire since the illness.

Yeah, I'm super routine too, Robin. Anything outside of the regularly schedule programming gets me a wee bit off-kilter. You'll definitely get back into the swing of things quickly, I promise, I did, and I was out of commission for 6 weeks and 3 days! :-)

I'm doing excellent, thanks for asking! I am totally back at the gym and running, getting my strength and mileage up again- thank goodness!

I ran 6.5 miles today and Monday, but I was pooped, and it wasn't quite at the same speed as pre-surgery, but I'm getting there. It's amazing how quickly the body can come back, just gets better every day - which is why I KNOW you'll be back on track shortly too. The interesting thing is that my body (as in legs, arms, shoulders) aren't getting too tired, but it's my actual lung/cardiovascular abilities that seem to have been hampered by the surgery and time off from exercising - like, I just am pooped more quickly, working much harder for air. But, like I said, it gets better and easier, so that's great.

Anyway, I'm happy, and healing well, and progressing. So all is good in my world. I'll have to leave a note in Maintenance section, because I've been a bit MIA the last week or two - we have been in the process of converting to a new crm software product, and so things have been crazy at work.

Ciao!

So This Question is for both Robin and Lauren.

At your heaviest, did you ever think that you would be able to do the exercise that you are doing now. Because in my world I think there is no way I could run 6.5 miles a day. But I still have about 75# to go. I think it is so wonderful that you 2 are accountable for your eating and exercise routine. I hope when I do reach goal I can be as accountable as you are.

Hey, Katie! Ha. Not only did I never imagine running 6.5 miles, I never imagined running at all! I didn't even think I could WALK 1/2 mile without suffering! Just the idea of all of this was so foreign to me back then, and "back then" was not so long ago, so I can attest to the fact that our bodies AND our minds can undergo quite a shift!

I just was walking one day on a treadmill and suddenly had this bizarre inclination to jog. Hadn't ever experienced that before! :-) And that's when it started.

Katie, you can absolutely do it, and I think you'll really enjoy it. "It" doesn't have to be running, it can be anything, and that can change too. Being accountable is what keeps us in check, but you can also see, with Robin and I (and Jo too), that it doesn't just keep the food in check, it sort of keeps our lives in checks. Having a routine of meals, of exercise, of, well everything, is what keeps us moving merrily along.

Sorry, Robin, for such a long winded reply in YOUR journal!

Good luck, Katie, anything you need, just post to Robin. Ha! Kidding. You can pm me or post in Maintenance...

Ciao!

Ha. No problem, Lauren.

And Katie, I STILL can't imagine running or jogging 6.5 miles at one time. I'll probably never reach that level, with my creaky old knees and hips. But that's OK; I do what I can and keep improving, and that's all I can ask.

And Lauren, I totally know what you mean. I'm close to doing my regular amount of push-ups (not quite there yet, though), but it's the cardio where I'm suffering. My heart and lungs just can't take it, and my heart rate just SOARS whenever I go above a stroll (I'm not sure it's such a good idea to push it, but I've been doing it anyway). But mostly I just want to make sure I'm back in my routine and not missing any days or slacking off just because I don't feel like doing it. So far, so good. Although I'm planning to take Monday off. I need to be all the way to Dallas for orientation at 7:30. In the morning.

Well, I had ONE day of on-target food. Today I have a couple of meals out, and same with tomorrow, so I won't be quite as good (plus I think a co-worker is baking a cake for my last day; I'm thinking I'll take a slice, have one bite and "save the rest to have at home"). Still back on track with the treadmill, which is good. And although I didn't do PUSH last night, I did at least do some crunches (50) and dolphins (12) and some push-ups this morning on the bathroom counter (20). I'm going to try to do my PUSH thing tonight, if I get home early enough (having dinner out with friends to celebrate my last day).

Hey, Rob -

Everything cool over in your world? New gig keeping you busy, or perhaps it's the slow as molasses forum here keeping us all away?

:-)

Have a great weekend!

Hi, guys. I can't deal with the slowness, so I keep checking, but not posting because it takes too darn long. Seems a wee bit better right now, so I'll give it a shot.

Job's fine, but boring because they haven't given me much to do yet. I'm sure that'll change, though.

I've been doing great on the treadmill workouts and am back to normal. I decided to give myself a break on the PUSH workouts while I got my new schedule and commute figured out, so I haven't even tried to do it this week, although I'm hoping to do one tonight and one this weekend.

Food's been a little out of control because of lots of eating out (and, I'm sure, stress). Weight has been up a wee bit, too, of course. I was up about 4 pounds, but I finally got my food worked out a little better yesterday, and now I'm just 3 pounds up. Those should be gone soon, too, now that I'm regaining control. Not that I went CRAZY, but I've struggled a bit, mostly with eating in the evenings and eating too much (or not the right things) when I go out. I think I'm OK for now, though.

Hope everyone else is doing well. I check when I can, but the system isn't being very cooperative.

I don't want to speak too soon, but I think I'm FINALLY back on track. Last night I did my PUSH workout - the one I was doing when I got sick. Today my butt is KILLING me (and my arms aren't far behind in the soreness department), but I'm realizing how much I missed that feeling. How weird is that?? So when I got to work, I tuned out the screaming muscles and took the darn stairs to the sixth floor (from the second, so really only five floors). I was more out of breath than usual by the end, but at least I did it.

So no more messing around. I'm going to do PUSH again Tuesday and Thursday no matter what - unless it's something like an emergency, of course. Cardio's continuing to progress almost back to where I was before, so that's on track, too. And food's been solid for a couple of days, plus I found some 40-calorie pudding packs in case those dessert cravings hit again. (And Shape magazine had a nice tip to modify even my silly PB and chocolate chips on low-cal bread. It suggested grating chocolate when you use it, so you use less. Great idea! I did it the other day, and covered two pieces of toast with an amount equal to maybe four or five chips.)

OMG  PB and choc on toast...that sounds so good!

Sounds like you are settling back in to your routine.

I know what you mean about the sore feeling after a good workout, I love it when I have had a really good Pilates workout and the next day (and the day after) I can feel it. Makes me feel like the workout was really worth it. ;)

Hope all is well with your new job!

Did some extra abs work last night, so now my butt is sore AND my abs are a little sore. They're so much stronger than they used to be, which is encouraging.

Job's OK - still pretty boring, but things are supposed to pick up this week. Everything else is more or less OK, too, except that this site is still so slow (I know Tim's working on it) that I'm going to stay away some more and try again in a few days. Or next week.

Take care, everyone! Maybe I'll even be back down my 3 pounds by then.

Sigh. It's been a REALLY bad week, and I'm completely giving up. Today I weighed in at 257 pounds - up more than 100 pounds from last week.

APRIL FOOL'S!! I'm down 2 of the 5 I gained, and completely back on track with both food and workouts. The job's going well, the weekend in California was nice (but very short), and I'm getting ready for the trip to Montana (my cousin's hip surgery is today).
