Yeah, I think my triceps actually get more of a workout from those than from regular floor pushups. Gotta love that.

Geez, I can't believe how susceptible to sodium I am. Last night I went out to dinner with a friend. After checking the restaurant's nutritional info online, I had a cup of hot and sour soup (56 calories) and got an order of vegetarian lettuce wraps (370 cals for a full order; I ate a quarter of it at most) and one fortune cookie (about 35 cals). So actually LESS than a normal dinner. But ... my weight shot up over a POUND this morning. Crazy.

I know it'll be gone in a day or so, but still. That's just nuts.

Robin, when I hit maintence, and I will I really hope i can be as accountable as you are. A lot of people would really not care about 1 pound. Maybe that is the reason I always gain. Good Job on Maintaining. also I hope i can exercise like you too. (not a big fan though)

Thanks, Katie. You're doing great!

I just have seen far too many restarters here to let a couple of pounds slide. Although the sudden gain from Chinese food isn't as alarming, because I know exactly what caused it and that it'll be gone in a day or two. But it's just so irritating. It was a cup of soup and about two-three tablespoons of the veggie mixture with a big leaf of iceberg lettuce. (Oh, except I did also have a frozen meal for lunch. Lower-sodium than most, but still more than I normally eat. OK, so no wonder.)

A good sign on the whole PUSH thing last night. I got stuck late at work, and did NOT want to work out last night (strength training, that is; I did my morning cardio as usual). But I took care of the dogs and had dinner (the leftover veggie lettuce wraps, cause I wasn't bloated ENOUGH from the sodium; ha) and just relaxed for a bit, then told my inner couch potato to shut up and started up the DVD.

Oh, and a funny (funny, as in coincidental, not funny ha-ha) aside about the new Medifast products for stalls and maintainers with the green tea and caffeine ... I had just bought some capsules with the same things a day before I read those posts. Mine have less caffeine, which I figure is a good thing because I'd rather control how much I get (and get as little as possible, given that I don't even drink Diet Coke regularly anymore). Maybe once my Chinese-food bloat is gone, I can start seeing an effect. I finished the wraps last night, so it should be gone soon.

Not much to report. 129.4, so coming down after some extra sodium all week. Workouts about the same. Tomorrow I get to move on to my second PUSH workout, so I'm curious to see what it will involve (I haven't peeked at it yet).

Off to get ready for my stick-shift lesson. My cousin made it to the first checkpoint in this weekend's race (in last place, but that's OK). He hasn't gotten to the second one yet, but the trail sweepers say he's on the trail and doing fine.

My cousin scratched on his race. But according to his friend last night, his hip was OK and he just hurt his wrist somehow. So hopefully it'll be healed soon and he'll be OK for the big race.

And meanwhile, 128.6. I'll be burning a few extra calories doing the happy dance today.

Congratulations to you on hitting that 128! I hope your lessons go well. I remember my dad teaching me to drive a stick shift......LOL. It does get easier with practice and time.

Sigh. It turns out it WAS his hip, so he's not doing the Iditarod this year. He's hoping to do it next year, after his hip replacement. He also lost one of his first dogs right before the race; she was killed by a moose.

And the driving was actually fine yesterday. No stalling, no racing the engine, etc.

Ouch! Sorry to read that he can't do the race, but by next year you'll be an old pro at driving a stick shift!

Shoot. I answered this and the post didn't make it.

Anyway, sorry, Chy. I usually look at your journal, but I musta missed it in all the running around this weekend. So here's what I do ...

I keep my feet together and stand as far back as I need to till I can get into basically a normal boy pushup position except with my hands on the edge of the counter instead of the floor. Butt down, back straight, feet together, just my toes on the floor, hands a little wider shoulder-width apart (or maybe a little wider) and pretty much all my body weight on my hands/arms. Then I just lower myself toward the counter by bending at the elbows and push back up, being careful not to slip and bash my face into the counter.

Oh, and last week it was a small SUV type vehicle. This week it was a VW Golf, which is much closer to my Jetta. My cousin Rob's vehicle is an extended-cab truck with a dog trailer attached (kind of the size of a camper shell). At least now I have a whole extra year to practice. Unless I need to drive it when I go help him out with his recuperation, depending on where he has the surgery. I'm voting for Dallas or FW, though. Ha. My house IS actually best suited for something like this, since it's one level.

Hi robin! I don't know what point you are at in learning to drive a stick but when i was getting my license at 16, my mother only had a stick so i was FORCED to learn if i wanted to drive. She would take me to large (empty) parking lots at first, she would get out and read ( I made her nervous and we would always argue) while i practiced. But here's the point i'm getting at :) ...Try driving with only your socks on. It allows you to "feel" it much better. It really helps get the feel of that 1st gear/letting go of the clutch thing without all of the revving and/or stalling. You may already be past this point but try it anyway, it really does help. You will be a pro in no time, just watch being stopped on those hills!

Thanks, Ovary Chick. I'm doing fine, though. This was my second lesson, and I spent the whole time out on neighborhood streets and didn't stall at all. Even stopped and started on hills with no problem. I think next weekend I'll be hitting the bigger streets. Or possibly the weekend after. I may want to drive in the Golf more, and not the SUV, especially since now I have plenty of time to practice. A whole year. Sigh.
