I asked around at work, and already found two volunteers willing to teach me in their cars. So YAY!! Although as a backup, I also asked a friend if she was at all interested in flying up there to help cheer him on. Since she's been wanting to go to Alaska for a couple of years now. But I'd still rather help with the drive if I can.

And yeah, I think between the cold and the manual labor, I'll be fine on the trip. Which is good, considering we probably won't be staying in places with gyms. And there's no WAY I'm venturing outside to walk or run. It'll be well below zero, from what he says.

I'm getting much better about asking for help when I need it. Yay, me.

BTW, for anyone who might be interested ... When I was poking around the Nome Web site, I stumbled across the Idita-Walk. You sign up for $10 (they send you a pin) and fill out a time sheet to show that you walked 30 minutes a day starting Feb. something till the race - the total in minutes comes out to the same number as the number of miles the mushers run. I'm going to sign up, since I do more than that already. And they have T-shirts you can order, so I'll have to get one of those to add to my race pile. But I thought it might be a fun little workout challenge for folks. A couple of people here are going to do it, too.

More good news. I actually found a hotel with a vacancy in Nome. A real hotel, even, not a room in a house or an igloo or something. With heat and Internet access and even a fridge and microwave. Half a mile from the festivities, which of course is kind of far if it's 20 below with the wind-chill, but I'll live. Across the street from Subway; online reviews say that and an Italian place are pretty the only places you can find food that isn't fried.

I can't believe I'm planning a trip to NOME. (And how awful is it that I want him to finish after I get there, instead of sooner? I mean, I hope for HIM that he finishes sooner, but I want to see him finish!)

Site problems yesterday, so I couldn't post this, but I walked 7 miles yesterday (all walking, but uphill). I don't know what got into me, other than that I had to skip my workout Saturday morning because of severe stomach problems (all Friday night and Saturday morning, I had these awful sharp, stabbing pains in my stomach that were so bad I was doubled over the entire night). Anyway, eventually whatever it was went away, so yesterday I just kept walking to make up for it.

Today I did an hour (again, just walking because I have a run tomorrow).

Some channel I didn't even know I had is running a marathon of Biggest Loser Australia, so my TiVo is working overtime, recording 'em all. So I'm a happy camper on the treadmill, because that's my favorite show to watch when I'm working out (and I love it, because it has an Aussie host and competitors, but the trainers are still Bob and Jillian).

I watched it yesterday and it is on again today. I just like seeing people at different weights I was and wondering if that's the way I looked.....Sorry about those stomach pains. Scary. I walked 6 miles on Christmas and it was just a feeling of accomplishment that even though I feel a bit tired afterwards, I can do it without much effort. I can't say it affected my scale much but it helped my self-esteem!

Thanks, you guys. Happy new year to everyone!

I was supposed to do another 5K race this morning, but my friend backed out and I didn't want to go alone. Plus it's cold out. Plus, well, I just didn't FEEL like it. So instead I walked a little over 7 miles on the treadmill, with a nice incline. Kept my heart rate in a good spot, so my monitor was happy with me.

I had planned a small indulgence for last night to celebrate New Year's. Ate just what I'd planned and no more, which is good, especially after I forgot to have my afternoon snack and was STARVING by the time I ate. But on my way home from the grocery store, I ripped open a bag of baby carrots and just started munching to fill myself up a little, which helped.

Oh, and I've decided I can't keep bananas in my house anymore (weird that my two off-limits foods at home are ice cream and bananas, of all things). But I can't seem to stop eating them once I start, so from now on if I want a banana, I'll have to go to the store and buy one - and JUST one. Although I'll still keep some sliced-up ones in the freezer for my morning protein shakes.

Happy New Year Robin! Thanks for all your support in 2007. I should probably limit my bananas too since they are calorie dense. On my program I can have as many as I want but I have lots of apples to snack on so I think I will limit myself to one nanner for now. I have lots of frozen fruit too that I nuke and add to my FF yogurt. My husband uses it for his protein shakes. You runners are all alike! :)

Heh. Thanks for that last comment, Biki. ;)

I think I may get some potassium pills, in case that's the issue. But I tend to think it's more a mental thing than anything. Stupid bananas. I don't have that problem with any other fruit!

Did an hour today. Mostly walking, but some running intervals (I think I was still a little tired from the long walks yesterday and Sunday, and my hamstring is acting up a bit again).

Well, aside from peanut butter and chocolate, I do believe that bananas are right up there with the best tastes known to man (or woman). And smother those suckers with peanutbutter......ok that's close to heaven.

See, I've never been a big fan, though. Too mushy. But lately, I can't get enough. I keep hoping I'll get it out of my system and get tired of them, but it's not happening.

So they're pretty much banished, like ice cream. So far that's the only two things I refuse to keep around. Out of things I like, that is. I don't count chips and stuff, since I've never kept those things in the house.

Wow, quelle coincidence! Last banana I had I thought, this would be great with peanut butter! I love those Elvis sammiches. My husband may suffer but no peanut butter is allowed in our house. Hooray for all of you in maintenance who can have trigger food around, but it just isn't worth it to me, especially since my husband has been so gracious about it.
