I haven't had one in years. A couple of years ago I had a Krispy Kreme because we were right there. That's it. Years ago, like when I was 26, I could eat 4-5 when people brought them into the office. I wasn't eating disordered, just had a sweet tooth and an amazing metabolism.

Sigh. I've NEVER had an amazing metabolism (unless you count the "amazing" in a bad way). But I've always had a sweet tooth.

So, I forgot. But I SWEAR you told me you wanted me to go on that J dating website and pick out a few candidates. That happened, right?

I think before you joined I had a day where I went in to visit the wall of donuts. Just to say hello.

I remember it. I've been here longer than pretty much anyone except Nancy, Jan and Tim!

Small indulgence last night means weight the same today. I'm proud of how I handled the craving last night, though (but I'm way late this morning so no time right now to explain).

Was so tired this morning I almost didn't run, but I ended up running 35 out of my 45 minutes (basically the most I can do on a weekday, if I want to get in my warm-up and cool-down walks). Woo hoo!!

First NSV in a long time today. But the T-shirt I got last winter for the Susan Komen 5K (the one I didn't do because it snowed that day)? It was pretty snug when I got it (in fact, I regretted getting a small instead of a medium, even though smalls usually fit fine), but today it fits beautifully and I wore it to work. So between that and the 35-minute run/jog this morning, and I'm a happy camper.

I'm starting to think about running more often, too, instead of every other day. Maybe running less on what used to be my walking days and making them half-run, half-walk days. Umm, maybe with some faster intervals. I'm trying so hard not to overdo - because that's my tendency - but I REALLY want to run more and walk less.

Oh, and I don't know, but I realized something this morning about that zoo run I did a few months ago. I forgot that I stopped to go to the bathroom in the middle of the race, so it actually took me less time than I thought. Cool.

.

I realize that it is recommended for beginners like me to walk more then add in jogging then go walk in intervals with the jogging. I am just like you though-I REALLY want to run. I walked 3 miles for months, enough walking!!! I am going to try walking more so I can do three miles in my jog in the morning instead of the 2.38 I did on Wednesday. I am going to try. And I am going to get in some walking today even though I said I was just doing stairs.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm still a beginner or if it's OK to run more often. So yeah, I think I'll start by doing a run/walk interval type workout tomorrow and just see how it goes. Maybe try a few sprints, like on Biggest Loser.

Do you jog as much as you can and then walk the rest of the way? Maybe you should try some intervals instead, and jog a certain time or distance, then walk a few minutes to recover, then jog again. That's basically how C25K works, and you just gradually increase your jogging periods and decrease your recovery periods.

Hey, Robin (and Biks!) -

Do you mind if I throw my 2 pennies your way on this run/jog/walk debate?

While I think it is great to have a plan, and certainly to do research on how to grow our skills and abilities in a healthful way, I am of the opinion that if your body is wanting it and your head wants it (just talking exercise here, people! ha), then do it! But do it intelligently, i.e. be cognizant of your breathing and heart rate and your overall physical well-being.

There really isn't a "too much" factor, IF you are feeling well throughout your jog/run. I agree with you, Robin, that intervals are often a better way to start building your overall time spent running, but I also have found that, cardiovascularly speaking, the longer time you can jog/run consistently in one fell swoop, the more your lungs and heart will improve in fitness level, and you'll increase your running times exponentially.

The only reason I became a "runner" was because one day, when walking on the treadmill, I suddenly had an urge to jog. Honoring that "moment" led to this ridiculous addiction which I'm thrilled to have, and I am so psyched that you ladies are all on board too!

Have fun!

Thanks, Lauren. I do want to do more, but I also know I'm very inclined to get too enthusiastic and overdo things. I know SO many people who run or used to run, but have injured their knees or hips because of overtraining - and that's the LAST thing I want to do. (Not to mention that my HEAD may want to run, but my body hardly ever does. I pretty much have to drag it kicking and screaming along with me. I'm STILL dealing with this darn hamstring, hip and leg pain, which is sometimes pretty debilitating - my body is 46 years old and not at all well cared for until recently - so I'm not convinced that running every day is the answer for me at this point.)

As for running more than the 35 minutes I did today, that's just not going to happen on a regular basis because of my schedule. I get up at 5:45 to do this much, and frankly, there's just no way I'm going to get up any earlier. I can't give up the warm-up or cool-down walks - not to mention the stretching - and I don't even want to shorten them any. I'm not willing to do ANYthing that will increase the risk of injury.

I jog as long as I can, take about 30 seconds to a minute break and start jogging again. I came up with that on my own! I just follow that rule I was mentioned before in your journal, if I lose the ability to breathe consistantly to hold a conversation, okay, maybe a heated convversation I slow my jog down a little. If it gets really hard I stop and walk a minute.

try this: sing.

if you can carry on a normal convo as you run, then you are doing fine. singing requires much more effort, so you can be pretty sure that if you can sing while you run you're in no danger of over training.

I do intervals because it's more physically taxing, but i also mix in a blow-out between jogging and walking.
