Hey, Rob -

Running on little sleep sucks, your feet feel like bricks. But with that being said, don't get psyched out on the running thing. I think it was Queenie who said a day or two ago that you should just go into it plugging in for the long run, and letting yourself know that if you can't make it, you can always stop, but that you're going to try. I found that in the beginning of my running I actually surprised myself how much longer and further I could than I thought I could at the start of that session. Just get on, say "today I'm going to do the whole thing," and go for it. Then, if you truly can't go further (as opposed to just not feeling like it), you can go back down to a walk or jog. I don't know from the C25k plan, but do they tell you at what speed you're to be running, or do they have you base it on RPEs? I am curious if you can adjust the speed of your run, ever so slightly, so that you don't become winded as early (if that's the problem). Actually, what is the problem that you can't continue - is it breathing or muscles being tired? I may have suggestions...

Or, I can just shut the hell up. :-) Let me know! haha

Ummm, I already run like a turtle. A very slow turtle (when I say run, it's really more of a jog; I'm not going to win any races). And I did go into it trying to run the whole 20 minutes, which is the workout I'm up to. But there was just no way. So then I thought I'd go 15 minutes, walk a few and then do another 10 or 15, but that didn't work out, either. So THEN I figured I'd just do more than I had before, which is how I made it to 11 minutes, then I was going to walk 4 and run another 10 or more. But even THAT was too much. My legs just weren't interested in going. (Last week I was running 10, walking 5, and running 10, but I was much better rested and much less hot.)

I'm disappointed, but I'm not all that bothered. First of all, I'm going through a lot right now (aside from the whole car thing, I learned this morning that if Mojo asks to go outside in the middle of the night, I should LET her - ahem - so I had that to clean up). And frankly, I'm about to turn 46. If I NEVER manage to run a whole 5K (or even just a full 20 or 30 minutes with no walking), I really don't care all that much. As long as I'm still on there doing SOMETHING, I'm fine with it.

Meanwhile, I'm trying one last thing that Tom Venuto suggested (although cutting back to 1400 calories seems to be helping already). He says carb-sensitive types should not only limit carbs but eat them early in the day. So I'm switching a couple of meals around to see if it helps.

My husband is 61 and hasn't been running for long and just ran a 10k. So don't be so quick to use your age to give yourself negative self-talk. I am convinced you can do anything your put your mind to. You have a very strong will, Robin. Don't short change yourself. I am glad you are OK with it, but I have faith in you.

No, no, I'm just not going to stress about it. If I do it, great. If I never do it, that's OK, too. Considering I've spent 45 of those 46 years not doing much of ANYthing physical (yes, even as a kid), I think I'm doing fine just getting up and doing this every day.

I put enough stress on myself without worrying about how far or how long I can run.

I talked to a mechanic near work that people recommended, and he looked at my car and says they can fix it for $1,000. Still a lot, but way less, at least. So they have my car and I'm going to rent one for a couple of days (but they're giving me the corporate rate because I mentioned where I work, which was very nice of them). So things are looking up.

Plus I got an e-mail from my new friend and pet sitter, who's going to be starting Medifast when she gets back from vacation. So if she comes here (I told her about the site), everyone be nice to her!!

132.0 (it said 132.4 a minute later, but I'm sticking with its first answer). So yay! I'm going to probably jog again today and see if I can go a little longer. I got a better night's sleep, at least. And I'm hoping I'll even be able to do the tape at work today. There's no way my car will be ready, so I shouldn't have anything else I need to do.

And I'm going to stick with the early carbs a few more days to see if it makes any difference.

WhaddidImiss? What do you mean by early carbs? Do you mean we should eat bagels for breakfast with a chaser of pie and icecream? Man, I'm doing it all wrong!

I ate half a bagel in the hospital and was so unimpressed. I was like after all this time, this should taste better. Food can be overrated sometmes. This is coming from a person who will eat Ritz crackers dipped in pancake syrup, then scarf and barf. So, consider the source.

Thanks, Lizabette. I actually forgot till now, but this is indeed my one-year anniversary. (And today I ran/jogged 17 minutes straight. Yay!!)

No, Jo, I don't eat bagels and pie. But I DO eat a certain amount of carbs every day, and he suggests eating them with your earlier meals and tapering off later in the day. So I'm eating my fruit and low-carb tortillas and whatever else at my first two meals and eating my fritatta and whatever else later in the day.

Sorry, Robin, I was delirious with thoughts of bagels and pie. Congrats on your one year anniversary! Time goes fast, doesn't it?
