Well, she was mystified. She ran some blood tests, and said if they don't show anything, she wants me to see a surgeon for a biopsy. Which seems ridiculous to me. I think if she can't find anything, I'm going to see someone at the urgent-care place near me instead.

And why does it only present in the summer?
 Maybe it's a big ol' chigger......does Texas have chiggers?
OMG ~ wouldn't that be disgusting??

Well, I sure hope y'all get it figured out!
Did she at least give you something for the pain?

She said take Aleve. Sigh. She really wasn't much help. And the thing is, it started a few years ago, before I even moved to Texas. I know we didn't have chiggers in San Diego.

At least she didn't tell me to lose weight. And yay for me, I didn't hesitate to get on the scale or even look to see what it said. All I did was ask about my bp, which was up a wee bit (for me, at least) probably because I had just raced over there from work AND was trying to find a position that didn't hurt.

Oh, yes they do! No personal experience with one but we were always warned not to go into high grass so as not to get chigger bites!

Okay, so she needs to be fired and you need to find another doctor that will be a tad more helpful in finding out 'what' this is. Grrrr! Her response wasn't appropriate (I'm wagging my 'Mom' finger in her direction with the other hand on my hip!! ;) ).

Robin - I sure hope they figure out what is going on with your leg. My brother is dealing with some kind of painful rash on his leg right now that his doc is sending him to a dermatologist. It's so strange how these mysterious illness pop up.

Let us know how the skydiving goes. Any updates yet to the thin club book?

There's a full review over in Lizabette's journal. Big thumbs up from me.

Skydiving won't be for a while, although my brother said he'd go with me. I told him he didn't need to dive, but he says if he goes, he'll feel obligated. So he's hoping that there's a weight limit and that he exceeds it. Ha.

As for the doc, I didn't actually SEE my doc. This was just a nurse practitioner, whom I hadn't seen before. I'm giving her a chance with the blood tests, but if they don't turn up anything, I'll see either the doc or a doc-in-the-box person at the urgent-care place down the street.

I think she kept thinking it was some kind of skin thing, or shingles or something. Asking about a rash and such. It's inside, though. Almost like a muscle thing, but not quite. I think the summer thing threw her off, and I wish she'd focus more on what it is and forget that it keeps happening in summer. Because maybe I'm doing something that I don't realize, or maybe it's just coincidence that it happens now.

why aren't you doing the regular sky diving? if i get time between sessions, that's what i'm doing this summer.... there are a bunch of indoor places in socal; it's pretty cool. the common misconception is that sky diving feels like you're falling.

don't be chicken. there's no reason for that-- it's a bit like being afraid of the swings. the tunnels are cool and they only let you go so high. just go have blast... or come to socal and we can do a dive together! there's an awesome company in santa barbara that gets you ocean views and goes 8000 feet higher than anyone else in the area.

i have something like that. i can't tell if it's because of all the running or if it's been there and my lard thighs kept it hidden. let me know if you get an idea of what it is.

Why not regular skydiving? Because people DIE doing that. Plus it's more expensive. And there's no WAY anyone in the family would go with me for that. And I know I'd go up in the plane and refuse to jump. That's just never appealed to me. (Ummm, and I've always been afraid of going too high on the swings, actually. They can break and you can fall.) I don't think it's supposed to feel like you're falling, though; the whole reason I'm doing it is because I want to feel like I'm FLYING.

Alex, does it hurt so much you have trouble standing? I'd give it maybe an 8 on the pain scale when it's at its worst. Maybe a little higher. (BTW, how are you doing, Alex? I miss you around these parts.)

Aaaanyway, 134.6 today for no apparent reason (other than the pain meds). Oddly enough, the Tanita showed a big drop in body fat - which is as impossible as the sudden weight gain, so I'm left to assume it's all water retention. Right now my leg's not bad, so I'm going to skip the pain meds today and see how it goes (although I'm going to the gym tonight because I can't tomorrow night, so that would normally cause a bump up, too).

Did the treadmill again this morning. Didn't go past a 10 incline, though; maybe those intervals at 12 were bad for my leg.

Hey, Robin -

Sorry about the leg thing, that is weird. But besides the pain meds adding to possible weight gain, any swelling surrounding the injury (and the bump itself) could also be adding to your scale changes - don't fret, you KNOW you're finally on the road to success, and your metabolism is finally responding!

The indoor skydiving thing sounds totally cool, and I'd love to try it too. Then, like Alpha, I may be more inclined to actually jump out of the plane. It scares the heck out of me just thinking about it, but I feel like my weight always kept me shrouded in fear, and I need to break down some walls. Or, maybe I'm just talking smack. :-)

Either way, you sound really freakin' good, and if a book can have that effect, I am so getting on the list to buy it when it comes out. It's possible it just came to you at exactly the right moment, when you were "ripe" for that info, you know? That's how I feel about Medifast. While I love the program, and would recommend it till I die, I also know that it appeared at exactly a time that I was ready to change. Kinda like all the stars aligned...

Anyway, sorry for my way too verbose entry in YOUR journal! Ciao, bella!

Oh, Lauren, your input's always welcome, no matter how lengthy!! And you're right on the book; I actually think it was a combination of the two. But I do think it's better than the other maintenance books I read, which were by psychologists rather than people who have actually BEEN there.

Either way, while I'm not pleased about the sudden weight gain, I know it isn't real so I'm not really bothered by it, either. I think it's mostly the meds, though; the swelling from the bump has been there for more than a week, so the weight gain would have come sooner. But I seem to retain water every single time I take Advil or Aleve or anything like that. I don't know why, since it should REDUCE the inflammation.

As for the skydiving, my weight kept me from a few things, but my basic personality has kept me fearful of other things - like jumping out of a plane. But I figure those fears have also kept me safe, and I'm fine with hanging on to a few of them - like jumping out of a plane. Plus, again, I don't want to do this alone (for one thing, it just wouldn't be much fun for me) and some things I would have to do alone because no one else there will go along with me - like jumping out of a plane. I'm looking for the thrill of flying mixed with a bit of fear - not abject terror. Plus this is something I can do in an hour or so, which is just about all the time I'll have that day.

Hi Rockin Robin,
I really hope the mystery pain in your leg will get solved.

All this jumpiing and flying and leaping out of chutes is kind of thrilling. In a leadership retreat we did all kinds of risk activites. Bungie jumping, hanging on to high wires, big swings over water. Quite frankly, I was scared witless, but did them all. and feel better for doing it. Taking risks with plans in place are ok.

Cant wait to get the book

I just want a more controlled risk. Zip line, indoor skydiving, that sort of thing. No jumping out of planes or bungee-jumping off a cliff or anything like that.
