Yeah, he said from the beginning that he doesn't like to e-mail much because he can't type (again, odd for an engineer). His spelling's atrocious to me, but I realize I have higher standards than most because of my profession. I don't think it's really that bad.

The other malapropism is going to drive me crazy, though. I can't remember what it was, but it was awful. Although proverb for adverb was kind of funny.

I just don't know. I keep going back and forth on the whole thing.

Argh. Well, no wonder I was so hungry last night. I put my food into FitDay for the first time in ages, and my calories have been WAY too low this week. I'm going to add a few things today to try to boost them.

Also, did the treadmill but only a mile. Sigh. I wasn't feeling so great, which later turned out to be some tummy trouble. Probably from the junk I ate for dinner because I was so hungry (not REAL junk, just some skin from a rotisserie chicken, two chicken wings in addition to my salad, and a couple of sugar-free puddings; still, not what I had planned, but at least now I know why).

hmm @ the car & truck thing, but a huge  at trying to come into the middle of Heroes! I am confused if I miss a week of that show LOL At least he is trying it seems.

I could see how it is frustrating for you. Does he have a comment about AnnaNicole? Cause if not then WOW you found someone as out of touch as Craig is

That came on while he was over. He HAD heard that she died, and that her son had died earlier, but he hadn't heard about all the court battles over the baby. Or even that she HAD a baby. Sigh.

He's certainly trying, which is part of the niceness. But I just don't know if nice is enough. At least he seems to recognize (somewhat, anyway) that other people find it strange, too, and that it's awkward in conversation even with his friends when he doesn't know anything about what's going on. But I think he'd be better off watching the news - or the Daily Show - rather than Heroes. Or read the paper. Or look at our Web site. He looks up any stories I mention that I've worked on, but doesn't seem to read further than that.

Yay. A small, but long-lasting NSV. For reasons too complicated and dull to explain, I needed to get a new work badge today - complete with a new photo. I wasn't at all ready for it (minimal makeup, dull blouse, bangs desperately in need of trimming - but a great hair day otherwise, for some reason), but it's the first head shot of myself I've ever liked!! But I think I look great in it - almost like someone else!!

And the best part is, it's my badge so I'll have it a long time.

If I had a scanner, I'd even consider making it my avatar.

His occupation as an engineer makes me nod my head. Of course he is on another wavelength. That's common for enginners. I understand how frustrating that must be though, since you are in the news business. My DH has an odd quirk that he doesn't read books. I mean at all. This led me to the conclusion that he wasn't much of a reader or not particularly bright at first. Boy was I wrong. He reads the paper cover to cover everyday and reads newsmagazines and magazines about subjects he's interested in, mainly cars and motorcycles. He just doesn't get book reading. I've been reading books since I was old enough to get my own library card and can't understand not reading them. So what I'm saying is, this may not be a deal breaker. It all depends on how this affects the whole of the realtionship. Is he otherwise a great guy? Or is he as oblivious to other things as he is to current events?

See, but I come from a family of engineers: my brother, my dad, my uncle, several of my cousins. All of whom are still engaged in the world. The only one who even came close was my dad, but even HE read the newspaper and watched the news every day.

We're talking an engineer who doesn't have Internet access at home, doesn't have an e-mail account outside of work, doesn't surf the Net at all, doesn't even know about most modern-day gadgets (let alone own any). He's not like any of the engineers I know.

He's a great guy otherwise: very thoughtful, very sweet, very caring. But is that enough if you can't make conversation with someone?

Someone at work could, too, if I really wanted 'em to. I suppose I could ask someone in photo. But I feel a little weird asking someone to scan my badge photo, of all things.

First off congrats on your picture.

Re: your quote, you do have a point there Robin. In long term relationships you need something beyond the romance. Have you many things in common?

Hey, Robin-

Congrats on the great photo...I know what you mean about actually liking a picture. When I find one I like, I want a reason to show everyone - but obviously that's weird! :-)

About JDG - I think what I would find most frustrating (and maybe what bothers you most?) about his lack of knowledge about all these things isn't that he doesn't know them, but rather, an overall lack of curiousity about the world around him, right? Am I understanding you correctly? Because you are innately curious and interested in your surroundings: the people you meet, the work you do, sports, pop culture, animals, news, etc. You have always expressed a keen interest in all the topics here, which leads me to believe that you like to learn and grow and explore. JDG seems lovely and kind and an overall mensch, but there is a noted lack of curiousity that I imagine is what's the problem. It's wonderful that he is trying to learn more about pop culture because of you, but I do agree the fact that he doesn't think to read further into the paper (or whatever) is a problem.

Have you ever just point blank asked him if it bothers him to not be connected? Maybe he's one of those people who was uber-connected 10 years ago and was miserable and decided to change his life and live more "simply?" Hey, I'm reaching here, I know! :-)

Whatever you decide, I think the best part of all this is that you have, in just a short time back in the "dating" world, already found someone with absolutely wonderful qualities who treats you like gold. And even if he isn't the one, you should feel most good that attract good men, you deserve good men, and you will continue to find good men!

Oh, I agree with Lauren about the good man part, but I just have to remind us what the wise Chinese proverb teaches us :

"We're looking for a FEW good men"

hee hee... Robin ?

Ha. So true. And Lauren, that's EXACTLY it. He has one interest: cars, and that's it (well, two, if you count me). But zero interest in the world at large, which is definitely bothersome. I do wonder, though, if he might become MORE curious about things as he gets out more and gets exposed to more. But maybe you need to be born with that kind of curiosity. I just don't know.

But I was thinking this morning, another jdate guy had contacted me right before JDG (actually, I re-joined to read that guy's message, and that's when JDG contacted me). At the time, I had put both of them off because of everything going on with Maggie and my uncle, but JDG was persistent so we wound up talking and then meeting.

Anyway, I was thinking this morning that maybe I oughta drop that other guy an e-mail and just see. It's not like JDG and I have agreed to anything exclusive; like I said, I think it's exclusive (at least on my end) more because no one else has asked me.
