He watches shows about cars and trucks. Nothing else, apparently. The thing is, I'd be fine with him not knowing much about TV. It's that he knows nothing about TV, politics, current events, movies, books, etc. Pretty much everything except cars and trucks. He doesn't watch regular TV much, but he also doesn't watch - or read - news. Or read books or magazines, other than car magazines.
And sorry, Jeepie, the only way he knew it WAS the Oscars was because I told him so. He's definitely not shying away from mentioning anything to do with pop culture; he knows it's my job and a major interest. Now he's trying to watch some of my favorite shows, but that's silly PLUS he's picking shows that you can't just come into in the middle, like "Heroes" and "24." I tried to explain that to him.
OTOH, he LOVED the play we went to. So much that he's apparently told everyone at work about it, and now they all want to go see it, too. And he's all excited about seeing it again (another local theater company is doing it in April). And we have the comedy thing on Friday, although I kind of wonder how much of the improv he'll GET if he's so clueless about what's going on in the world.
It just worries me that he doesn't know pretty much anything that's happening. Heck, I mentioned the Dow's big drop yesterday, and he hadn't heard about that, either. It's really, really hard to work for a freakin' newspaper and talk to someone who has no idea about current events or entertainment or anything else. Every time we talk, the conversation hits a million stopping points because I make a reference he doesn't get. Or bring up a subject he's clueless about.
