Definitely no romance so far. Heck, our last date was Wednesday night, with a bunch of his work friends. I'm getting close to ending the whole thing. He's an extremely nice guy, but he's not funny and he's not really even fun to be around. We have pretty much nothing in common and nothing to talk about. He's not up on current events and he has no clue about anything related to pop culture; he even asked the other night if we run feature stories every day in the paper. He had no idea newspapers have a features SECTION every day. Geez. And when I mentioned something about "Heroes," he asked if it was "some show about the military." I don't expect him to necessarily WATCH, but how can you not have heard of the show at this point? (I can answer that, I guess. By not even knowing that papers have features and entertainment sections.)

Mostly all he talks about is work and the people he works with. Long, dull stories about business trips he took with them years ago. And out of all of them, exactly ONE was remotely interesting. Most of them are long and involved and seem to have no real point. Sigh.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, although I'm giving him another shot or two. Mostly because we already have stuff planned. Sigh. (And I just met some of those friends. The answer would be no, not really.)

130.0, even after being short on water and having a few fries last night at dinner. Which went well, btw. We hung with the dogs a bit, then went for dinner, then came back and he stayed WAY longer than I really wanted. But he asked to watch TV, so he could learn some pop culture. Ha. It was kinda fun, though. Go figure.

Then he asks if there's any chance I can come back from my trip a day early. Turns out his birthday. Sigh. So since I haven't called to change my departure flight yet anyway, I e-mailed my friend to ask about the itinerary for engagement weekend. If the main party's Saturday night and not Sunday, then I suppose I can come home early and take him to dinner.

But I guess now I really need to get him a Valentine's/birthday gift of some sort. I have NO idea what to get. Except possibly some DVDs and a subscription to the paper. :)

family guy season 1 would be my best suggestion.
his suggestion will be that you rub icing all over your boobs and blow out a candle.

for some reason, i like his idea better.

i'm just sayin'.

Hi Robin;

Just checking in. I'm very glad things improved for your uncle and family, and sorry that there haven't been any sparks yet with JDG. I loved reading about your NSVs - especially "how do you eat so much and stay so thin?" I think that's going on my list of goals, to have someone say that to me someday.... I may have to pay someone to say it but it would be worth it.

Back from Vegas and checking in. I am exhausted just from reading about everything you're coping with, --the new job/schedule, the jdg, the dog, your uncle and the whole mishpocha. You are a rock!

I have to say that there continue to be similarities between jdg and my husband, who was pretty narrow (engineer!!!) when I met him, and whose sense of humor was pretty much stuck at college, year 2. The latter was not improved by spending most of his working hours with other engineers and Naval submariners. But, at the life-stage I was at, that counted less than sincerity, devotion, honesty, and kindness. Living with me has exposed him to a lot of things, which has definitely widened his horizons culturally and geographically. Of course, it helped that he was open to the experiences. He still has a pretty sophomoric sense of humor  , but no one's perfect. But only you know what your hierarchy of needs (to quote Maslow) is. I'm sure whatever decision you make will be the right one.
Hugs,

130.0. Got on the treadmill today, so I'm happy about that. Didn't do much running, though. I can't believe how hard it was again. So I guess I need to build back up a little. But at least I did something.

129.8 even though I didn't eat so well yesterday. And I'm very proud of myself, because I did what I said I'd do. Got up half an hour early and ran/walked a full half hour.

My plan for the next two weeks (the first week at home, the second in Denver) is to build back up to where I was before. I'm going to walk/run for 30 minutes four times a week (during the week) and for 45 minutes each day on the weekend. And then when I get back into town, I'll add two trips to the gym a week, one on the weekend and one midweek after work (that's the one that's going to be hard).

Yeah, I finally caved and added it. What the heck.

And a friend had a nice idea for a bday gift for JDG: a Foreman grill! He said he doesn't cook much but likes to barbecue - but they don't allow grills on the patios/balconies at his apartment complex anymore. So that's a good idea, right? Assuming he doesn't already have one? I was also going to get him a subscription to the paper, but that's pretty expensive for someone I don't know all that well.

what kind of paper is cheaper than a foreman grill?!

i would suggest a subscription to maxim. it has a lot for a guy--
scantily clad women...
jokes and humor-o-plenty...
current pop culture stuff...
scantily clad women...
and it's actually fun to read.

oh. there's pictures of girls in it, too.

normally, i wouldn't suggest a subscription to anything-- but mr boring might benefit from something like this.

Well, heck, I don't know how much the newspaper costs!! I've either gotten it free or gotten it for dirt cheap for the past 20 years. I went to look, and it turns out it's a lot, unless I just got him like a month's worth or something. Plus the more I think about it, the more I'd rather not get something that just keeps showing up for so long. When I still have no faith that I'll be seeing him in a few weeks. Sigh.

Meanwhile, I won't be leaving a day late for my trip so we can go to the hockey game. They wanted so much in change fees that the trip would have cost almost twice as much. And I couldn't just cancel that one flight and rebook it, which would have been pretty cheap, because they wouldn't let me. So he's supposed to be checking on my return flight, which is on a different airline (American, where he's a platinum member and has a bizillion miles), to see if I can come back a day early without being charged.
