OK, I'm leaving Wednesday for LA. Ticket's one-way, since I don't know when I'll be coming back. I'll still be here a few more days, but I doubt I'll be able to even check in when I'm there.

Barring some sort of emergency, I'll be back by the following Tuesday, though. No way can I cancel on the All-Star thing. I don't wanna have to sleep with him and not even get to go!

Sigh. Typical guy. It's miserable out, and they're saying the ice storm is going to spread this way, but of course he says it's fine and is on his way over. Not that I don't want to see him or anything, but I would LOVE to just stay in my jammies and curl up with the dogs and just watch TiVo. Oh, well.

Ha. It was nice, even though I really wanted to stay in because of the cold. At least the rain wasn't too bad and there was no ice yet.

He came over, and Mojo reacted with some hostility, which I've never seen before from her (but I haven't had anyone come to the house since I got her, either). He had brought two kinds of dog treats, and actually first sat on the floor, and then when that didn't help, he lay down on the floor and looked away from her to be nonthreatening. And then gave the two of them treats until they warmed up to him. Went through both packages. Heh.

So then he changed my brake light as promised, and we went to lunch. By then we didn't really want to drive into Dallas, so we just went to a movie and then took a quick walk around the mall and came back (since I originally had plans with a friend in the evening; she canceled, but I didn't tell him that because I REALLY wanted a night at home in my jammies. alone). And when we got back to the house, Mojo and Teemu were both his best friends. He even offered to help me walk Mojo, and then distracted them when I had to clean up a couple of accidents (which pretty much never happens, but I think the combo of the rain and cold, with the huge amount of treats did them in). So anyway, it was nice. Very friendly, but nothing more so far, which is fine with me.

And I got to have a lovely evening on the couch with the dogs, watching TV and napping. Which is exactly what I needed. (Of course, if it's icy tomorrow, I may get a second evening like this. I was told I can work in the Arlington office, if I can get in. But since I don't know if anyone with keys will be there, and I doubt they will, I may be stuck.)

Can we get a little description of what he looks like please? Is that asking too much? The dogs got treats, so throw us a bone here!

Oh, sorry. Remember Michael Tucker, from "L.A. Law"? He reminds me a lot of him. Kinda short (but I'm only 5-foot-2) and a little pudgy (he's lost like 60 pounds and wants to lose another 20 or so).

He called again today. And confessed that he's not good at dating and doesn't know whether he's calling too much. I told him as long as he doesn't call me three times a day or something, it's OK.

I love Michael Tucker, but then I'm 5'2. He and Jill Eikenberry (and she was gorgeous and taller than he) really seemed to have a great marriage, and it had lasted a long while. Lemme tell ya, if you're thinking you want long-term, go for the nice guy. The exciting ones go one of two ways: you find out they're one-dimensional or they're just impossible to live with sanely (and typically they're not good at commitment). JME.

Oh, he sounds kinda cute. Cute. Nice. Thoughtful. All good news so far! Since he is obviously one for making gestures (tickets, doggy treats, effusive thoughtfulness) I can't wait to see what Valentine's Day brings!

He does sound nice!! AND i always thought michael was cute. PLUS he is admitting his weakness ~ honesty is a HUGE plus for me (plus the fact that he loves dogs!). He sounds very nice, but I understand taking it slow. And I have lived alone a loooooong time now, so it is hard to let someone in to that time & space we create.

Anyway, hope your day is still going well, and hopefully you will be starting in features on that promised date!

Well, he seems fine with taking it slow, too, I think. There's been zero physical contact so far. I was going to at least kiss or hug him goodbye the other day, but as he was leaving, Mojo ran outside. So with all the confusion getting her back into the house, it just never happened. I was inside with her, he was halfway to his truck ...

And he does seem pretty great, huh? I'm waiting to see what's wrong with him. Other than that he's not very funny. I DO like someone who can make me laugh. But that might be nervousness. Maybe once he loosens up a little.

As for Valentine's, I dunno. I'll actually be out of town then, because that's my cousin's son's birthday (when I always go to Denver; especially important this year, because his grandparents - my uncle who's in the hospital and his wife - won't be able to visit like they always do).

I think he sounds GREAT! It appears he went to great lengths to get your four-legged children to like him! I say that's a good sign of a good guy!

As for the funny...he might just be nervous and trying to make a good impression and his goofy side might come out as he's more comfortable with you. You did say he was asking if he was calling too much and such because he didn't date a lot, right? Plus he's handy and changed your brake light, right?

All true. But yeah, he was telling me about these practical jokes he'd pulled on friends at work, and they were all just lame. I was going to tell him about one I did way back when, but mine was SO much funnier, I didn't want to tell him. Sigh. (OK, so this guy Tom at work used to always be selling peanut M&Ms for his kid's school. So when he left the paper to go work in Palm Springs, I got a carton of peanut M&M packs from Costco, and handed 'em out all over the building, with instructions to come by at some point during the night, find Tom, hand him a package and tell him goodbye. So all night long, people were giving him packs of M&Ms. People he didn't know, from all over the building. He got some in interoffice mail, he got some in the pneumatic tube we used to use. When we were leaving that night to take him out for drinks, I left early. So he got one from the security guard in the parking lot. And from the bartender. In the end, he wound up with more packs than I had initially bought. Something like 30 of 'em!! And then, of course, to top it off, I called the Palm Springs paper and talked to a reporter who was going to be working for him. And got her to buy a pack of peanut M&Ms and put them in his desk drawer. Now THAT is a practical joke!)

And BTW. when did I become so stupid? I went to take my dinner out of my cooler, and this time the container has half a chicken breast in it. Instead of a whole chicken breast plus lemon-and-garlic roasted green beans and artichoke hearts. And my co-workers just asked me 10 minutes ago if I wanted anything when they went for food. Sigh. I'm an idiot.

Yay. Not so stupid after all. I called one of the guys on his cell, and he was still at the restaurant. So they're getting me some Chinese food. Chicken and veggies. Not ideal, but way better than fast food or pizza. Or not eating.
