Oh, please, at this point I'm not sure I could HANDLE whatever in the afternoon. I'm like Teemu. (Have I mentioned his ineptness with Mojo? He chases after her like crazy, and grabs her around the waist or hips, and ... well, he makes the right motions, but it turns out the only part of him even touching her is his front paws!! It started out annoying, but it's getting kind of funny now.)

I'm a little worried about this guy. A) He's a little stalker-esque already, although I think he's just a little socially inept. In our first e-mail conversation, when everything was going on with my uncle, he offered me his frequent-flier miles. Which was nice, but a little weird from someone I'd never even spoken to. Then we talked Wednesday, and agreed he'd call Saturday afternoon so we could set up a time and place for Sunday. Then he called me Friday just to say hello. And then again today. ... and then the one I hate to admit. B) He doesn't have a photo online and he didn't pick a "body type" description. He says that in the past year or so, he's been trying to be healthier and not eat fast food regularly. He says he works out, and the other night when he called, he was out on his walk. So I hate to even say this, but I'm kind of afraid that he's like 400 pounds or something. Which is horrible, but at the same time, I worked really hard to lose the weight and be healthy. I wouldn't care if he were a few pounds overweight; I really wouldn't. But I'm afraid he might be seriously big. It may be shallow of me (OK, it IS shallow of me) but I just don't find that attractive.

He says he skis, though, so maybe he's just chunky. Which would be fine with me.

ask.
ask him to email a pic, or just ask him for his height/weight. men are nowhere near as offended as women. hell, tell him you have to know what he looks like to find him tomorrow.

Too late to do it tonight, although I WILL ask for a description so I'll know who he is. Although if he says he's 400 pounds, there's not much I can do about it now. I would never bail at the last minute like that. That's just rude. (Plus it might make him angry, and he DOES still have stalker potential.)

On the other (large, puffy) hand...

He might be an absolute Adonis who is tired of women throwing themselves at him based on his looks alone, and only wants to meet someone who will see the "real" him. He didn't pick a body type description because there wasn't a "Greek God" or "Chiseled Granite" option.

He flies frequently, so he can't be too big for an airplane seat. Does that help?

True. Thanks, guys. (And I guess if he turns out to be huge but nice, I'll just introduce him to Medifast. Maybe he'll take all those boxes of broccoli soup in my cabinet!!)

Do you think he'd like some "cream of broccoli?"

Hey Robin,

Just wishing the best for you on this date. Relax, enjoy, and have a great time.

Not true. My poor sister has to get two seats. Her company (EY) is very nice about it.

Sigh. I'll just have to see.

Meanwhile, I'm about the same. No frozen food or extra sodium for me for a while. I need to get back to normal.

Looked at the pics. Your new baby is handsome, but I love T-man, because shepherd-types are my fave, even though it's been a while since I had one. I think things will settle down once Mojo is not so hormonal! As for the rescue group, our dogs have all been rescues for many years. I could tell you some horrendous stories about some (but not all) of the groups who place dogs via petfinder. Our most recent is a good example. We were told he was very sweet, no behavior problems, and bomb-proof housebroken. To summarize reality, if he had teeth (there is not a one in his little senior head), he would have had to go back, he has been so aggressive in certain situations, esp. with my husband. And, he wears a belly band in the house, since lifting his leg on my furniture is one of his fave things to do. :x But, of course we love him anyway.

For separation anxiety (T's) and thunderstorm phobia (also firecrackers), have you asked your vet about clomicalm or some of the other calming meds you could use?

Glad things are starting to settle down for you. And cannot wait to hear about your date. I am married to an engineer. We met at work, and I thought he was a little dull. But he was very interested, and chased me hard. We've been married for 17 years now. He is sweet, smart, hard-working, honest, generous, and loves our pets. Frankly, for me anyway, that trumps exciting.

Yeah, I come from a family of engineers (although I wouldn't say my brother is boring; my dad, on the other hand, was as dull as a rock). This guy seemed OK. We didn't have a whole lot to talk about, but again, that's partly me. I'm not great at small talk. Anyway, he asked me out again. I already have plans with a friend Saturday night, so we're supposed to go to a local museum exhibit during the day that's been advertised a lot. And no, he wasn't 400 pounds. He's a little chunky but has apparently lost about 60 pounds already and is working on losing another 25-30 (all since he was diagnosed with diabetes, another thing he is in common with my brother). Very much a dog person, so that's very encouraging.

Anyway, today. 129.2, which is a huge relief, especially since I didn't run yesterday. Today I had to be up incredibly early (for me), to take Mojo for her surgery. I'm not sure whether I'll run or not, although I'll try to at least walk at some point if I can ever wake up.

If this guy's had to deal with food issues and weight, he is more likely to be supportive of your efforts and accomplishments. And having a dog lover is big. I've known guys who ultimately got jealous of attention I paid to my pets or had the it's-just-a-dog attitude, --couldn't understand the premium dog food, or allowing them on the couch, let alone the bed.

It took a while for me to warm up to my guy. Not a scintillating conversationalist, nice-looking in a geeky way (his haircut looked like they'd used a bowl on his head, but we've fixed that), not a head-turner, but so kind to everyone in our office, to waiters in restaurants, to his family, to his pets... Once I got to know him, I realized I was crazy if I walked away. I've never regretted it.

I know how relieved you must be to be back under 130. Those benchmark numbers are so important to us, even when it's just a matter of fractions of a pound. I myself have been hovering within a pound or so of my goal for two weeks. It's driving me nuts. I start with a personal trainer this week, so maybe that will help...

Keep us posted!
