Well, who didn't see this one coming? 130.4, but I fully expected it and I know it'll be gone soon enough. What I didn't expect was the lack of energy this morning. So I made myself hit the treadmill anyway, but I walked more than I ran because I ran out of steam so quickly. Stupid bread.

Meanwhile, I sure wish our vet was still here. Maggie's having SO much trouble with her one leg. She's now on two meds for arthritis and still not doing all that well at all. Today she didn't want to go in the yard, so I took her for a walk. We got maybe three houses down and she had to sit and rest. Sigh. We're going to an animal acupuncturist to see if it will help her, but her appointment's not for two weeks. I was hoping she'd start feeling better when the weather warmed up a little, but no such luck.

She also seems really unhappy, but I think that might be the pain medication she started a couple of weeks ago. So I'm going to try to wean her off it and see if she perks up. I wish she could talk and tell me what's up, though!

So sorry Maggie is having so much trouble! I wish I knew what to tell you...

But as far as your weight goes -- you will probably have that back down by Roll call :)

Poor Maggie,
I hope she starts feeling better soon and let me know how the accupuncture goes...Yoda's starting to slow down a lot! Back legs bothering him.

I wish I knew what to say too. Very little on this earth is more heartbreaking!

Yeah, I'm not terribly worried about the weight. I went right back to normal eating today, and I should be back to running tomorrow. I hate this bloated feeling, though; you'd think I'd learn, but noooooooo.

I just hope Maggie gets better soon. I keep hoping she just pulled something - or something like that - and is temporarily under the weather. I really hoped the warmer days would help her, but they didn't seem to make a difference. My poor baby. (But thank goodness I've been lifting weights and everything. Because picking up a 60-pound dog to put her on the couch is not easy.)

Hi Robin,
I sure hope Maggie gets to feeling better too. I can emphathize with you. I know I look pretty funny lifting Heidi -- our 130 pound Black Lab/ English Mastif cross into the car. She just puts her feet on the seat and waits for me to heave ho.... nope not easy. Heidi took duramax (sp?) for awhile for her joints and then glucosamine. I hope the acupunture works... I know my chiropractor also works on dogs. He told me he had a patient bite him... I don't think it was a human patient. I know you're willing to try everything for Maggie. Let us all know how she's doing.

Thanks, Jan. She can't even get her front legs up on the couch right now, probably because it puts too much weight on her back legs, so I had to just lift her straight up. Sigh. At least I didn't have to carry her home from our walk. I'm not sure I could manage that one! I'm going to try to run out before work tomorrow and get some higher-dosage glucosamine and chondroitin, because I don't think there's enough in her Missing Link Plus.

BTW, on a completely different subject. Just wanted to post an update in here on my Activia experiment. Doesn't look like I'll be asking them for my money back; it's been less than a week, but the stuff seems to be working miracles!! So anyone on maintenance with a "sluggish digestive system," give it a try! It gets the DogMa seal of approval. Two big paws up!

130.2. No running today; I called the vet first thing this morning and they were going to take her right away. But then the vet had emergency surgery, so now we're not going till this afternoon.

Last night, I took Maggie for a walk because she wouldn't go out back again. We went to two houses and she lay down to rest. I got her home and gave her some Tylenol with codeine instead of the pain stuff she'd been taking (we had some left from her surgery last year). She seemed slightly better, but then when we went to bed, she coudn't even get across the house without stopping to lie down and rest. She was the same this morning.

I was up most of the night worrying about her, so it's probably just as well that I didn't bother with the run. I'm going to scoop the yard so I can run around with Teemu later on. He SO wanted to play last night, and I did what I could but I was too worried about Maggie to stay out with him for very long.

Sigh. She's got hip dysplasia in one hip, plus an abnormality that the doc wasn't sure about. She's worried that it might be either bone cancer or a bone infection, but said it's in an odd place for either one, so she wants the other docs to take a look when they get back Monday. Meanwhile, Maggie's liver enzymes were way up from last time, so she can't take the Deramaxx anymore. So they're doubling her dose of Tramadol instead, plus I'm increasing her glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and fish oil. I'm staying home from work tonight because I can't bear to leave her when she's so miserable.

And it took every ounce of willpower I had, but I didn't do what I normally would in this situation. I didn't get anything from the Asian takeout place next door to Petco (where I got the glucosamine, etc.) or anything from any of the bizillion fast-food places I had to pass on my way home. When my cat got sick and was dying, I drowned my sorrows in fast food and sugar.

ETA: Just saw your post, DeDe, and wanted to thank you for the thoughts. I think somehow your post got sandwiched in because all the times were so wonky. Didn't want to ignore you, though!

I'm off to see if I can talk Mags into eating.

Oh Robin! I'm so sorry. Hang in there and keep looking for the answers. In the case of Maggie's health, persistence will pay. She is so lucky to have such an in tune and attentive mom. How old is she? I had a Chesapeake bay retriever that had hip displaysia actually at a very young age, 18 months, and my dad (the best vet in the world) was able to perform surgery that actually loosened some tendons and that helped aleve the pain. As long as I carefully kept her weight under control she really never had problems from it. But before the surgery I had to carry her up and down the stairs each time she went out. Now that is when I was in my 20's and weighed about 120.....she was 80 lbs!. I used a towel as sling to help aleve the pressure from her back end so she didn't have to work as hard to move. Also, I used moist heat on her back end, I would steam damp towels and wrap on her hips and then cover them with a blanket and lay with her. It helped. My thoughts are with you. Our pets are our family members, but family members who cannot help themselves....it is so hard to see them in pain. Stay strong and healthy for her. Take care!

She's 13 or older; I don't know for sure because she's a rescue. Sigh. She hasn't pottied since yesterday morning because she wouldn't go out last night. This morning I took her out and walked her around a little, but she wouldn't do anything. Then I put a heating pad under a blanket on her favorite bed. So of course she refuses to use that one now. Sigh. I'm going to get a second heating pad for the other room.

I still think it's weird that the dysplasia or the arthritis would hit her so severely so suddenly. I'm hoping she injured it somehow in that ice storm and just needs to rest till it heals. I just don't know.

Meanwhile, 130.0 today. Still up, and I'm guessing the stress and lack of sleep aren't helping. Ran/walked 2 miles this morning, and I'm going to do what lifting I can at home, because I don't want to leave her for too long. I'm basically going to run to the supermarket to pick up a couple of things and just come straight back afterward.
