Hee. Technically, she said she was "at the gym" four or five hours a day. I figure they must have a juice bar or nail salon or something there.

And thank you. It doesn't seem to be changing my scale numbers any, but I'm almost starting to make peace with that. Right now I'm just sticking with what I'm doing and hoping that eventually I start seeing more of a loss.

DogMa wrote:I watched. That show is the reason I went back to intervals AND added the 8 mph sprint (which might not be a sprint for some, but it's crazy-fast for me). Because Dan, a few weeks ago, had her turn it up to 7.5. I figured if he could go that fast at his weight, then even though I'm 30 years older, I could darn well do it at mine. So my regular running is 5 mph, my 1-minute intervals are 6 mph, and at the end of my last interval I tack on a 30-second sprint at 8 mph. And hope my chest doesn't explode. :)

I don't watch TV much and have never watched BL. However, I think I'll give it a try based on your thoughts. I never thought about picking up ideas from the show! Does that happen often enough to make it worth my while?

But I am NOT going to walk across a gym with a 300-pound man on my back. Sweaty or otherwise. That's just nuts.

But yeah, Susie, they also give little trainer tips going into some of the commercials. And, at least for me, it's incredibly inspiring to see the 300- and 400-pound people pushing themselves so hard and doing way more than I'm capable of doing.

Ha. Yeah, that'd be better, I would think. I also can't see jumping up on those platforms. I'd probably miss the platform and kill myself.

I've always wondered who watches those shows - like 'worst highway accidents ever!' That's not a real one that I know of, at least not yet, but I'm sure some exec will think of it.

Cynical much, Robin? With the juice bar/nail salon comment. I agree that it's impossible she did that much work and lost nothing - although maybe I don't agree. I mean, I worked out 6 days a week for 3 months once but still ate whatever I wanted and didn't lose a single thing. I was only doing 45 minutes, though. I imagine it was a combination of poor food choices and just plain lying about the workouts.

It was sad to see Joelle at the end just walk away from Carla. My husband said he thought she was a stupid person trying to sound smart. I disagree. I think she just took no responsibility. She must have an elaborate fantasy built up where she is the princess and can do no wrong, but she certainly does not live in the real world. I think they would have kept her on, for Carla, if she'd just come out and said 'I screwed up, I didn't work at all, I know I can do better, please let me stay.' But that woman is incapable of saying she's wrong about anything. Selfish? Probably. Out of touch with reality? Definitely.

Oh, I absolutely believe you can work out for 45 minutes or an hour a day and not lose weight; I'm living proof of that. But she said she was there four to five hours every day, and that she worked out every bit as hard as Jillian worked her. And THAT I don't believe, no matter what she ate. (Not to mention I think it'd be hard for someone to put that much time in at the gym, and that much effort, and then eat as much junk as she would have had to eat.)

I think Joelle needs counseling in the worst way. She sounded like she picked up a few psychobabble terms from watching Oprah and Dr. Phil, with all the affirmations and stuff, but I think she needs REAL counseling. She's in complete denial - about just about everything. And the way she totally zones out when she's confronted, like when Carla yelled at her a few weeks ago? That's just not normal. But I suspect she won't GET help, again because she's in so much denial.

Yeah - I can imagine eating a lot of awful food, but so much that you would negate daily workouts on the level of Jillian's? They talk about burning like 7000 calories a day with her. That would be physically impossible to counteract with food. Unless you ate McDonald's three times a day every day. Which, with 5 kids, maybe she did. Who knows?

Joelle - when she yelled back at Carla during the workout at home with Bob - that was the most emotion she ever displayed. I've been wondering if she'll even come to the finale. I think the crowd would boo her. I wouldn't come if I were her. I was surprised we even saw her at the end of the episode. But you notice Carla lost another 40 pounds since leaving campus and Joelle I don't think lost more than 10 or 15? The numbers flew by pretty fast so I don't know if the math is accurate. But I suppose she lost something, and that's pretty darn amazing.

I guess they got such good ratings with Vicky as a villain last time, maybe they'll manufacture a bad guy every time now? Although you couldn't make up someone like Joelle. The way she just dropped Carla like that - no, they couldn't have been very close before. I wonder if she can get close to people at all. Sad.

Sorry. We should start a BL thread I guess.

Last thing I swear. I just read an article about an interview with Carla and Joelle yesterday on the realityTV website. Interesting. Joelle was able to talk a much better game, explaining her actions in a totally reasonable way. But who ever knows what the truth is? Carla said they were friends before, Joelle said they were acquaintances and hardly ever saw each other. A fresh perspective, if you can find it. I know you're not supposed to paste urls here but it shouldn't be too hard to locate.

I read the same interview this morning, too!! Although the stuff she said about her ankle and not being able to run didn't make much sense to me since a) their physical activity is OK'd by docs beforehand and b) she said she DOES run now. Interesting, though, that she says she didn't actually do the 30-second sprint at the time, and that the footage they showed was from a different day.

And how would she know that her absentee ballot was messed up, once it was turned in?

In any case, all the yelling at least worked on ME. :)

Good point on the ballot. Maybe she had a friend on the committee. It said she founded some sort of not-for-profit so she might know people who would know about that kind of thing.

I was shocked by the edit mention, too. It really makes you wonder how real any of it is. I mean, I knew there was editing, but I guess I always thought it was just to make things fit in the time slot. I was naive enough to think they wouldn't edit things to be manipulative.

Hey, did you see the thing about the warming gloves I wrote in Katie's journal?

Nope, but I'll go look. Although it's already warming up here. Our below-freezing days might be over for the year. Supposed to be around 70 again today, and it was much warmer this morning than it was yesterday.

That said, I woke up exhausted and cranky and achy today. Tried to treadmill, but got off after a whopping 10 minutes. I wasn't lightheaded or weak or anything, like I was before, though. Just tired and achy and feeling like I'm fighting something off. I've been sneezing a lot the past few days, too, so maybe a slight cold or something. Anyway, if I'm feeling better tonight, I'll do some Wii Fit or strength training or something. But that's a big "if." Because right now, it's an effort just to stay awake.

Be careful, Leigh. Don't do too much too soon on that ankle!!

I already take all that stuff, so I don't think I need more. Two people in my office are out sick today, so I think something's just going around. And my calories have slipped a little, plus it's extremely windy here today, so it might just be a perfect storm of allergies, fighting a virus and not eating enough. I was also STARVING when I woke up, so I decided to take the hint and eat a little more for breakfast. But right now I still just want to curl up and take a nap. The frown on that at work, though. :)

They eliminated nap time in Kindergarten, too - so sad! When I was a kid we had nap time. But no more. I think the kids could really use it, if you ask me - anyway, my point is, when you find the job where nap time is NOT frowned upon, pass it on!
