I can't believe I forgot about the Wii! Is it awesome? Last year we got a cheapo version of Dance Dance Revolution that's just plug-n-play and we finally opened it this Christmas - and it's really fun to exercise but call it a game. So I can imagine the Wii would be very cool.

I've been having a LOT of fun with it, but I'm extremely sore now (mostly my arm; I think I overdid it on the tennis). I also tried My Fitness Coach. I did her fitness assessment, and apparently she thinks I'm fitter than I am, because I couldn't handle the workout she designed for me (partly because I was already sore, but partly because my heart rate was getting way too high too quickly). Anyway, I quit after the warm-up, but later I saw that you can decrease the intensity, so I'm going to try that this weekend.

Walked 45 minutes this morning, which I thought was pretty darn good considering a) I'm so sore I can barely move and b) I'm having RF interference problems again, so I can't watch recorded shows while I'm on the treadmill. Grrrrr. I'm not sure what to do, other than replacing the power strip with the RF filter (that's what fixed it last time, but do those filters die that quickly?).

Hi Robin. Were you able to fix the interference problem? How is the high-low calorie cycle working for you? Today was day 4 of exercise for me and the part that made me the happiest was knowing I only have to do it one more time this week. So I guess I'm not an exercise convert just yet. New season of BL - hope you were able to watch while working out. I was ready to just pop open the Froot Loops and go to town that night but after watching that it didn't seem like such a good idea. I thought it was cute how Bob said in the intro that if you're just going to sit on the couch and eat ice cream while you watch then it's a waste of time. Because I have literally done that before - even last season, when I was all on-some off-some. Well, hope you're having a great week!

Hey, Nicks. I solved my treadmill issue by rearranging my entire bedroom to move the treadmill to a different outlet. I hate it right now (my nightstand won't fit anymore so right now I'm using a little TV table, plus now the treadmill is right next to my bed instead of in the empty corner where it fit perfectly), but at least it's working fine again. So yep, I watched BL yesterday while I was on there. I was going to watch DietTribe this morning on there, but had to cancel my workout because I had to leave the house at 6:30 for a little PR "emergency."

I'm still experimenting on calories. The high-low seemed to help, but it was kind of a pain to do. Then I hurt my leg and couldn't work out for a few days, and I noticed that my weight dropped during that time (just like it did when I was sick a couple of months ago and took some time off). So then I thought maybe I should try JUST higher calories, which is what I'm doing this week. I'm going to continue with this till the end of the week, if not a bit longer, and see how I do. I am GOING to figure this out, darn it.

Just had my cardiology appointment. Heart rate was high when I first got there, after a 10-minute walk, but dropped down after a few minutes in the office (thus proving my point). EKG was OK. Blood pressure was high for the second time in two months, even though it's always been low. They scheduled me for an EEG and an ECG, plus some bloodwork to recheck my thyroid and a couple of other things.

Robin, good that you are getting the medical checked out.

As for the treadmill, if it is an outlet problem, how about getting a short extension cord to run across the room when you wish to use the treadmill? I have a thick, heavy duty extension cord that I use to use for mine, just pulled it across the room when I wanted to use the treadmill and then coiled it up on the belt when I was done. That way you could have your room the way you wanted but still easily use the machine... just a thought.

Hey, guys. I was going to do the extension cord at first; that's how I tested it in the other outlet before moving it. But the original spot for the treadmill was in a corner, so to run the cord it would have to go past either the door to the room (where I'd trip over it) or the door to the back yard (where the dogs will trip over it, especially since they go in and out a lot while I'm ON the treadmill). I'm kinda stuck for now, although I'm thinking of having an electrician come out and take a look. The new outlet's working, except if I touch the TM on the metal piece where you get your heart rate (which I don't use because I have my own monitor), the static electricity makes it shut down immediately. So I'm wondering if maybe the outlet needs to be updated (it doesn't have the little reset switch or anything; GFCI or whatever?). I may talk to someone about it next week and see if they can help.

And here's the weird thing about my tests. I looked at my symptoms and thyroid things, and I looked at my last thyroid test. My TSH was close to the bottom of the range - but that makes me close to HYPERthyroid, not hypo. Which is odd given my problems losing weight. It would explain a lot of other symptoms, though, including the high blood pressure. So we'll see.

My mother, husband and I all have hypothyroid but when I was doing research on it I came across some hyper stuff, too - and it seems like it affects different people in different ways. I mean, in theory, when you start the pills if you're hypo you should have an easier time losing weight - but no such luck for any of the three of us. So there's no reason hyper would necessarily lead to low weight. Maybe if you do have a problem and get it treated, in a few months you'll find your weight problems are history! Didn't work for me, but if your condition is the opposite, maybe it will work for you since we are bizarro twins. I hope all is well, though, with no problems - thyroid or otherwise.

How weird is it that I WANT them to find something? Not because I want something to be wrong with me, of course; I just want something they can fix so I can stop having all these problems. I can live with the weight loss issues, since I've had 'em so long. But I'd really, really like to figure out the chest pain and blood pressure and be done with them. (And given the choice of a thyroid problem or a heart problem, I'd take the thyroid any day. I mean, it's not like I can control the blood pressure with diet and/or exercise.)

The TV problem was back today, even in the other outlet. Sigh. So I guess I can move the treadmill back, but I need to call the U-Verse folks at some point to see if they have any other suggestions. Or maybe I need to buy a new RF filter every few months.

Oh, thanks, T. I'm fine. I posted in Katie's journal (and maybe somewhere else?). Nothing much to say, I guess. Although increasing my calories - to more than I ever expected - just might be working. Too soon to say yet.

Hey, Rob!

I wasn't going to mention this when you said recently about trying the higher calorie thing, because I know we have totally different bodies/metabolism/weight loss experiences...BUT, increasing calories has consistently made me lose weight since in maintenance. Everytime I add something that I think might make me put on a little weight (like significantly more nuts, olive oil, or whatever - healthy stuff, though) I consistently drop weight.

I think that because we both exercise so regularly, our bodies really do want more. I think my body, especially, wants more healthy fat - which I unfortunately do not get enough of, hence my mentioning the olive oil and nuts above.

Anyway, I hope (fingers crossed) that this will be a solution for you! Wouldn't it be lovely if eating MORE meant weighing less!?!

I know. How crazy is that?? The thing is, I wasn't exercising as much lately because of all the other issues going on. But I've had a couple of really strong days, so I'm hoping that continues with the higher calories.

I'm still reserving judgment, though. It's WAY too soon to know for sure. And I still need to get my blood test results and do the heart tests.
